Great sttuff Pooka, I was disgusted to see VFX pushing his own agenda onto the London riots and I agree, he has absolutely no empathy for the people effected by the riots, and to be honest I don't really put Pat Condell in high regard either. I'm in one of the many parts of England which fortunately wasn't hit, but I do sympathise with the people who have lost there homes and businesses, especially ones which have been in there family for generations.

Their actions are simply the product of random, amoral, natural processes; they can no more be blamed for their actions as the lion, tiger, shark, or any other animal can be blamed for theirs.

I think those without empathy become aware of it quite young. It's been a pet theory of mine for a long time that sociopaths, or at least those with limited innate empathy are drawn to religion. You often hear one say "if it weren't for the knowledge of God, and the eternal punishment I would face, there is nothing to stop me from murder, and rape". Maybe for them that is actually true, and because they have limited, or no knowledge of what it's like to have empathy, they think that's true of the rest of us.

VFX's empathy meter has always registered 0. All he can do is try to emulate empathy, with no real idea of what it actually is. Sometimes the result is funny, sometimes disturbing. I think those without empathy become aware of it quite young. It's no surprise if they choose to hide amongst the religious where you can occasionally let your lack of empathy slip and then mask it with a horrifically heartless religious verse. Their social weakness then becomes "godliness".

Last week it was the rule of the mob, word got around the streets of London there were no police in the highstreets, so it became a free for all, what they did was very wrong ( and they knew it). It's been a pet theory of mine for a long time that sociopaths, or at least those with limited innate empathy are drawn to religion. You often hear one say "if it weren't for the knowledge of God, and the eternal punishment I would face, there is nothing to stop me from murder, and rape". Maybe for them that is actually true, and because they have limited, or no knowledge of what it's like to have empathy, they think that's true of the rest of us.

If morality exists then you would have to use a ratonal basis on it and empathetic response does not matter. If I want to use secular ethics then I can write papers justifying almost anything.
