ok this is BS.. both pilots were qualified on the Q400 and had enough experience and training to fly the airplane. if you look in the NTSB report, all their pilots are trained to fly in icing conditions and how to recover from a stall. People should stop making assumptions and leave it to the professionals who actually know a thing or two about flying an airplane. It is a good possibility that the captain was attempting to correct a tail stall, which turned out to be a fatal mistake.
Funny how capitalist argue "supply and demand" when defending how low regional pilot pay is, when here we see a perfect example of how hard it is to find a qualified pilot capable of even PIC'ing (Pilot in Command) a little Q-400? Pilot pay is kept artificially low by corporations organized behind powerful lobbying groups like the ATA and RAA. There is NO capitalism involved here. It's the manifestation of a pure plutocratic greed and it's costing American lives!
@TheWashingtonEagle Here! Here! You and I know this, but it is a travisty that not enough other people know this. That being said, I'm not so such that even that would increase the wages of a pilot to where it ought to be. Case-in-point; no pilot's wage was increased (directly nor indirectly) due to the Buffalo crash. Thanks for the posting!
The revelation of Captain Renslow's checkride failure record has resulted in a knee-jerk reaction from the FAA which only exacerbates the problem the airline pilot occupation is having attracting talented and cognitively skilled employees. With 40% pay cuts, lost pensions, bankruptcies, mergers and revolving-door management treating airline employees like their own personal ATM's, the new 1500 hour rule only goes to aggravate a stalled occupation. Look for worse and worse pilots to come.
