Getting an economy out of a recession isn't the same as balancing your checkbook. No economist right now, no matter what political position, is worried about spending. It's the only way out of our current problems. See Paul Krugman on this -- he's very clear.

This is another one of those conservative lying points. The epidemiological data tells us that the US ranks very badly on certain key indicators. Infant mortality is one of the surprising ones. We rank just behind Cuba. And we rank, shockingly, behind most of the former Soviet states. There's lots of room for improvement and for honest attention to this issue.

Getting an economy out of a recession isn't the same as balancing your checkbook. No economist right now, no matter what political position, is worried about spending. It's the only way out of our current problems. See Paul Krugman on this -- he's very clear.
So, this has little to do with honesty. You're intellectually dishonest in my estimation. But the issue we're debating is about understanding economics, which is not reducible to spending. everyday economics is not a good analogy.

So I don't think you have those facts right. And from what I've read about the first Depression, it seems like government programs were one major means for getting people employed again.
