yeah it's a great song from the heyday of R&B but doe's anybody have their song [the bird must fly away] it 's a beautiful song about the nature of life.I've been trying to find it for weeks can somebody out there help me!
@LBJTV yeah... which begs the question; what the hell happened to brothas since, in terms of fashion? As a 70s/80s child, I remember black men being so much better dressed than they are today, with the baggy shapeless pants that are falling off their asses and oversized ugly clothing/t shirts. What a shame. Sure, the fashions of the 70s were sometimes a bit much but at least they were form fitting and classier. We need a makeover in the black male community!
@cjs33139 You took the words right outta my mouth! I've been saying this on a few vids..I miss everything about those days..the clothes, cars, the music..I don't know what made society shift to today's ''norm'..
This brings back some awesome memories! Thanks for posting. I also remember another Miracles song from that era called "Give me just another day"... It doesn't play much on oldies station but I consider it a real classic. Actually they had a lot of tunes on their albums that could have become hits if ever released as singles. I guess is now too late to bitch so let's just say we keep them in our hearts as hits.
The moves are awesome I LOVE THEM. "It just don't get no better than this." Billy Griffin has a great voice. Love it, Love it, Love it! Old School knew how to do it right!!!
Billy Griffin was a great replacement for The Miracles. Motown Groups have some great vocalists take the place of leader when they left. And look at the fellows steppin. Who knew
When Billy came along, the Miracles finally had an identity. Believe it or not, their two biggest hits of all time were Love Machine and Do it Baby. Love Machine was their only 1# on both charts!
When Billy came along, the Miracles finally had an identity. Believe it or not, theeir two biggest hits of all time were Love Machine and Do it Baby. Love Machine was their only 1# on both charts!
I love the way Billy Griffin does these two songs. And I really, really want one of them pink suits with the shoes to match, ok! This makes me remember why I loved the '70s so much. Psychadelic!!!
@williamg2552 and tommiexander, both of you bro's have looked at this situation with a critical eye and are well versed in what happened to Motown, and Black R&B sound from the 70's. I just think that both of you are relying two large pieces of a puzzle as it relates to the Miracles, Motown and R&B from the 70's. Thanks for being the thinkers that both of you seem to be. iIwas born in 1970 so all I remember is hearing these songs @ family parties and whenever company came over! LOL
I'm just tying to get you to explain what you posted about. You say that The Miracles had the talent to have many more hits, but yet they didn't have not one hit with Columbia. I wonder why? There's no ax to grind. Just showing you how Black people like you are quick to criticize the Black label, but you don't have one thing critical to say about what happened to The Miracles at Columbia and why they had no hits with them. You were too busy finding fault with Motown. Typical..
You are still blaming Motown. Ewart Abner was part of Motown. Abner was fired in 1975, so now who do you blame after that for plight of The Miracles? You are just the typical Black person that always have to criticize other successful Black people or successful Black companies. This is one of the biggest reasons why Black people don't progress as a whole. But you are not alone. I see it all the time. But you still haven't explained about the fact that The Miracles had no hits with Columbia.
The Miracles had the TALENT to have had MANY MORE hits, but , once Smokey left, Motown switched all of their promotion dollars to Smokey's solo efforts,(and Stevie Wonder's) despite the fact that The Miracles (without him ) , were producing better, more dynamic music in the 70's. The Miracles successfully re- invented themselves, and had million-selling hits DESPITE Motown's politics and lack of promotion....but imagine what they COULD HAVE DONE with more backing from their record label.
Why do Black people always want to blame Berry or Motown for every damn thing. I get so sick of that crab in the bucket mentality. Why don't you explain why The Miracles didn't make it when they went to the Columbia label where the FBI protested their album and Columbia pulled it from the airways. I guess Motown had something to do with that too, huh. And maybe Motown told Columbia not to promote any of their music, and that's why they didn't have any hits with Columbia.
@tommiexander The lack of promotion from Motown was what led The Miracles to leave the label in the FIRST place. It wasn't BERRY. IT WAS HIS SUCCESSOR , EWART ABNER.
This is really 1976. The Miracles didn't start wearing these type outfits until after Love Machine's success in 1976. They wore this pink suit, a white one with wings on the lapels, yellow with flowers and a gold lame Love Machine suit.
They were all renditions of the same costume. Most likely this was an appearance on the Dinah Shore show.....
I think Michael Jackson (RIP) would have looked like Billy Griffin had he not done the surgeries. He moves a bit like Michael. I think i'm missing Michael.
@mrapina -Actually, I've seen "time lapse" photos of what Michael Jackson would most likely have looked like if he hadn't had cosmetic surgery- he looks just like his father-and it aint pretty! - He did the right thing- God bless him.
They look and sound great. Mr. Griffin was a welcome change a new energy was needed to carry them into the future. He was and still is very talented. He definitely can sing and dance and is very sexy. Cudos to the Miracles.
@kcred3 True, but the group need to be inducted into the Rock & Roll of Fame. Smokey was inducted as a solo artist in 1987, but they have yet inducted the group as a whole They did receive their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last year
@kcred3 It was Billy's idea for the group to change their style and record more uptempo songs start dancing. It worked along with him and Pete writing the group's material
I'm digging the outfits.. I was just a little bastard running around watching my mother and father dancing in the living room to this song.. The good ole days.
@AUFSEHERlNNEN it was released in October 1975 and reached #1 on the Hot 100 chart the week of March 6, 1976.
Obviously they point out Billy Griffin . . . but I can't recognize the other 3. And do you all think the song would be better or worse had Smokey Robinson done lead vocals on it?
It would've been nice if they all either had hats or no hats. Uniformity means a lot. I guess at this point, The Miracles could care less about appearances.
Replacing a dynamic lead singer like Smokey Robinson in an established group like The Miracles had to be no easy task, but Billy Griffin pulled it off admirably. I actually think this guy's voice is better than Smokey's. I can't imagine Smokey singing stuff like these two songs. On the other hand though, I can't imagine Billy Griffin doing something like "The Tracks Of My Tears." So I guess it all evens out.
I'm glad it said who the lead singer was for Love machine...it avoids me from asking people with more of a knowledge of The Miracles/SR and the miracles. Does anyone know how many other hits/songs Miracles released after 1975.
@imachildofthe80s8089-Love Machine and Do it Baby is it. Though R&B wise, Spy for Brotherhood was a top 40 hit. When looking for try it under The Miracles featuring Billy Griffin if not try the Miracles.
@imachildofthe80s8089 After the City of Angels LP from 1975, which had Love Machine, they put out three more LPs with Billy Griffin as their singer. They left Motown after the next LP, and did two LPs for CBS/Columbia. The last of those three records was the self-titled LP from 78 which is hard to find. I think it may have only been released in Europe.
@kiddiequeenofmotown you are right i am 14 and i think that a lot of songs from our generation sucks, but some are good :) there is a lot of great hits from old times like this one ;D
@kiddiequeenofmotown many songs from around this time period had lots of "feeling" in them. some were sad, some were deep, some energetic, and like this some made you feel happy. the best songs had feelings, well written words, and great showcase of insturment playing.
@kiddiequeenofmotown After your comment I have hope for the future generations. Not everyone's brain has shriveled up and gone to mush. Stick with the 60 & 70s music kid.
ya ya ya!!! This is my song of all eternity!!! YEA BABY!!! i have the dvd, watch this all the time. they look MADD sexii!! especially billy and ronnie!!! you guys are awesome!!!
@vanderbubbles55 I thought that my grandmother would die every time that she saw guys with pressed hair and wearing bright yellow or royal blue hair curlers. Or the Pink, yellow, powder blue, purple or red "leisure suits", their purses with the long straps or the "platform shoes." I would give anything to see her amazed face again...it's too bad that the few times that I heard her laugh was about someone else's clothes. Lol
For those who've been living in A TREE for the last forty years... and don't know the individual names of the MIRACLES.... they are...(left to right on the LOVE MACHINE VIDEO)...BILLY GRIFFIN,PETE MOORE,BOBBY ROGERS,and RONNIE WHITE. At the time of this video, the departed former members were : BILL "SMOKEY" ROBINSON, his wife (and Bobby's cousin)CLAUDETTE ROGERS-ROBINSON, and MARV TARPLIN,(who was later replaced in THE MIRACLES by BILLY GRIFFIN'S brother DONALD GRIFFIN.
who desnt know the original names of the miracles? that is mad easy!im 12 and i know that. whoever doesnt know that Has been livin in a tree. by the way, did u know that ronnie white's daughters names are michelle and pamela?
THE MIRACLES had a total of 9 charting singles with BILLY GRIFFIN .... THESE 2 HIT THE MILLION PLUS SALES MARK....AND LOVE MACHINE WAS A MULTI- MILLION SELLER....THE ALBUM FROM WHICH IT CAME ,"CITY OF ANGELS",WENT PLATINUM...AND LOVE MACHINE WENT ALL THE WAY TO # 1 POP ....SOMETHING SMOKEY HAS YET TO DO AS A SOLO ARTIST....HIS HIGHEST CHARTING SOLO HIT WAS "BEING WITH YOU" WHICH REACHED #2.I.M.O., THEY WOULD HAVE HAD MORE HITS HAD MOTOWN GIVEN THEM MORE PROMOTION.
WOw these guys are good

@kiddiequeenofmotown Oh you didn't miss much from the 70's. The good thing about the 70's was that we got to live in the 80's :-)
