my daughter is 12 and there is no way in hell I'd leave her home alone. some kids at her age are very street smart but my daughter is very naive , not very tall for her age, and has an innocent trust in everyone.

I think it all depends on the maturity of the child and how independent they are, some kids are just too innocent minded at that age to be left home alone. yet some of my friends have kids the same age who act and look a lot older.
