I think as history has shown that neither absolute capitalism nor communism actually works in practice once applied to actual human behavior. Even the US has been a mixed economy since FDR. Pure capitalists don't have things like unemployment benefits, social healthcare programs ( ie: Medicare/Medicaid) which are needed sometimes.
There are important values in both systems that are not mutually exclusive and every modern industrialized nation in the world has a mixed economy as well.

@cheeseuscrist Where on earth did you get definition of Fascism? The Fascist Italians did not exterminate racial minorities or religious minorities, and the people were generally happy regime. Once the people unhappy with it, it was easily removed from most of the country, except areas occupied by the Germans. Go read a book.

Joseph Stalin was really bad and Nikita Khrushchev was only slightly better. BUT, Boris Yeltsin and Mikhail Gorbachev were very good people. Vladimir Lenin killed many people but the country had fallen into such a horrible state that the mass killings of the economic elite that had been terrorizing the country for hundreds of years was necessary for any kind of positive reform.

Perhaps if the Soviet Union didn't have Stalin it wouldn't have had the impulse to win world war 2 and launch Russia in the world stage again, who knows. They won, at a terrible cost still, but won.
Things started to get better with Brezhnev, and then with Gorbachev and Yeltsin it worked out all right. Putin, what can I say? A terrible autocrat, but definitely a patriot.

@cheeseuscrist You can't be anti-american though. American contribution to the world is amazing. Just look at what has been done in Southeast Asia, the Asian Tigers. Amazing how careful planning and well-directed funding managed to get so many people out of poverty and ignorance so fast. America has also managed the Israeli-Palestine dispute quite well frankly. Apart from a few setbacks here and there, things move generally towards peace, and foreign Arab despots become increasingly isolated.

I think as history has shown that neither absolute capitalism nor communism actually works in practice once applied to actual human behavior. Even the US has been a mixed economy since FDR. Pure capitalists don't have things like unemployment benefits, social healthcare programs ( ie: Medicare/Medicaid) which are needed sometimes.
There are important values in both systems that are not mutually exclusive and every modern industrialized nation in the world has a mixed economy as well.

Imperial Russia did fight Japan in the Russo-Japanese War. The United States does not claim to be the first in space, the United States was the first nation to put a man on the moon but the soviet union was the first to launch satellites (sputnik) and put a man in space, (Yuri Gagarin)...and a dog (Laika)

CCCP didn't "fail" against Afghanistan. It came to aid to Afghanistan government and people against CIA sponsored Talibans (Osama bin-Laden...etc) that led a long operation of assassinations, terrorism and sabotage against Afghans.
Only after Soviets, backed with pro-capitalist pro-west-Imperialist Gorbachev, recalled troops from Afghanistan, it returned several centuries in past, like it is today, oppressed, subjugated and destitute.
