  • Gary Beadle ,wasn't he in eastenders?

  • BIG FRENCH ONES!

  • The best thing about Flowered Up? They were inclusive. No shutters,no security,no hiding backstage...."come and have a crack, get up on stage,go mad,we love it.!" A band very much with the spirit of the Clash and i never failed to come out of any gig of theirs without a massive smile on my face. Massive shame what's come after but the spirit of Liam lives on in some of us who were there and Barry here's to you when you get out.

    Cheers!

  • Wicked wicked tune, all these years on. RIP Liam, terrible news.

  • Rest in Peace, SO many Thanks for so many MEMORIES.

  • RIP Liam Maher. Achieved cult status instead of the wider recognition that FU completely deserved. I LOVE Flowered Up, always. As one of the previous posters wrote - they remind me of the best times of my life. 'It's On' remains in my Top 10 songs.

Liam Maher was 41 - does anyone know what happened to him?

  • R.I.P Liam we shared some Great times together I will miss You, BEST BAND EVER from Camden.

    From SEB

  • R.I.P Liam.god bless.flowered up were real quality.i went to school in camden and grew up near them.they will be missed.

  • It's so tragically sad Liam Maher has passed away :(. A criminally underrated talent who like the rest of the band never got the recognition they deserved but still loved doing what they did.

    RIP.

  • Not actually the style of music i listen to but i absolutley love this tune R.I.P Liam

  • Real shame.

Being of the Flowered Up generation along with a lot of other lads on here, it was nice to see the It's On video again...Brought back memories of the happiest days of my life.

    Thanks for that.

  • Rest In Peace Uncle Liam :( xx

  • heard from another site about liam. sad news. i know hed had his personal troubles the last few years.

  • Rest In Peace Liam. thanks for the chats we had this year x

  • Clint boon loves this band and its my homework to look them up lol ... so here i am listening lol

  • R.I.P Liam Maher

  • Bless him..spent a few long hours with him this year...

  • Inspiral Carpets were a bunch of ignorant twats and I have evidence. Flowered Up were so criminally underrated and a trillion times better than them.

  • I ain't heard this song for years, it's givin me flashbacks of my first trip when i was 14 in 1991. it should have more that 28,000 hits.

  • I saw these play Liverpool Poly back in the day and they were a brilliant live band and better than most. Really under-acknowledged and under-rated band from those baggy druggy days.

  • I remember this. I came out around this time. Great!!

  • 100

  • that's more like it i prefer this slower version myself

  • Barry Mooncult!!

  • Barry Mooncult!

  • now selling double glazing, go figure

  • Guys, this was the original 1990 version which was slower than the one which was re-released in 1991 and appears on the album.

  • A song about drug dealing with children in.

They wouldn't stand for that now!

  • lame, it not about that to me , it about being different

  • But the song is about drug dealing. The band were very much part of the drug rave scene in London.

  • its too slow isnt it???? my 12 inch single was quicker

  • It could be a remix.

I've got a 10" single which sounds different to this.

  • That's what I was thinking too, some of the words are different though.

  • I remember the chart show broadcast - the vocals were missing!

Ta for this - been wanting to see the video in full for almost 20 years now!

  • flowered up filled the gap for people who didnt really like the nondays melodies, FU is better!

  • Joke band, to even discuss the Mondays in the same context as these is ridiculous

  • A classic song from back in the day but they werent in the same league as the mondays

  • That's probably true in the sense that FU were not really in it for the long haul. There's a sense of the ephemeral to their work that was very much for the moment. From what I have read about them they didn't give a flip about anything and aside from the keyboard player were really just a bunch of party animals having a go at it. Their whole body of recorded work is just enough for one good concert's worth of material too. I still think it's a great record regardless, cheers!

  • Superb, as good as the Mondays ;-)

  • Its strange how people always dismiss Flowered Up as "Happy Mondays wannabes". Not only did they have a completely different sound to the Mondays, but they were also highly capable musicians (unlike the Mondays who were very average and had to be massively assisted by Oakenfold's "production"). An extremely under-rated and highly enjoyable band - Liam Maher's vocals are superb - one review described them as sounding like "someone reading out the contents of the Vietnamese telephone directory".

  • Total agreement! It's a completely different approach, even if the form is similar. I'm seeing some HR Puffinstuff and Peter Gabriel "Supper's Ready" influence in the flowerpot man imagery. Such a great band, I wish there was a DVD of a live show.

  • Hi mate - I believe there is a video of them live on stage in Blackpool of all places!

I remember seeing them all over London in early 90s - Astoria, SW1 club, The Fridge - when the whole stage was taken over by fans.

    They were great live.

  • The Mondays' best stuff was on their first two albums before Oaky came along, altho his remix of WFL is a classic - but the lazy comparisons are annoying, FU made a great album but got lost in the general 'baggy' thing sadly. And Weekender is one of the greatest 'concept' tracks ever!

  • One of history's most unfairly overlooked bands! Required acid material back in the day, great to see what they really looked like after all these years.

This mix sounds slower than the one on my CD, is it the original version by any chance? I read they re-recorded it. Post more and cheers!!

  • Yeah this is the original and best version mate

  • Right on!

  • Does anyone know if that's the original 1990 release? I've got the reissue (7 and 12), which sounds a bit different. This version is slower.

  • so fit

  • go on Sir Basil Mooncult!!

  • they were supported by the manic street preachers back in 1992 what a fucking killer combination

  • CRACKING

  • sonia!..

  • Great band but too alike the mondays

  • dosnt do justice to the mondays

  • Fookin loved these and the

    Mondays

  • They were great, what ever happened to them?

Also in Germany we loved them!

So happy to have found out their name again. Defininately better and a bit fitter then the Mondays...

  • Better than the Monday's??! Nar no where near pal..no where near.

  • oi oi this is the bollocks

  • Top top tune and yes gigs were very mental.

  • fucking excellent band from the 90's

in my opinion much better than the mondays!!

    crazy gigs

met liam a few years ago and shared a joint with him, telling me stories of flowered up..pure class!!

shame the reunion a year or so got cancelled!!

  • cant u feel its HOT!! so many memories.... brilliant ,

  • fucking bangin tune still its on you

  • not bad

  • happy Mondays wannabes

  • not as good as the mank sound but gud none the less

  • Where they from man?

  • South London

  • north london..singer is liam maher..looney dancin wi big plant on his swede is barry mooncult...i like em,but they ripped the mondays style an swagger.check campag velocet for a better sound!

  • Thanks for that!! Just checked Campag Velocet, an old band, but new to me!!! Ta!

  • spot on Ruth, still listen to camag nowadays, they should have gone a lot further, remember seeing them on Jo wileys tv program doing sauntry sly chic, "that girl's real neat"

  • i knew a bird whos cousin was in this band -she never fuckin stopped going on about it

  • got the speeded up version from itunes, looking for this version of the song. Please send me a message if you know where to get it.

  • I remember the hype in the NME for this band and taping it off the Chart Show before i'd heard it. You couldn't hear the vocals at all but i still bought it on 12" because i believed fully, and its still great. Far superior to the speeded up version on the best of CD.

  • gr8 upload do u see do u see? cant u feel its HOT!!

  • nothings gone down

    hes wastin his life

    just dealing around

  • oh, of course

    i like the rich ones

    big french ones, oh

tongue tongue in your your cheek

your bouncing around the biggest deal in your in your life is going to go down

    hurry up

    its on

hes getting a bit a up tight

  • This song is about a drug deal/dealer who is wasting his life, so therefore that is why there is the little kids, to let them know what drugs do, its on!

  • will someone please leave a comment!

  • i come home from boring peoria il, and listen to this this everynight, are u u british

  • i didnt want to say that

  • Hard to believe that some of those kids in the video will now be approaching their thirties... :-o Still sounds like it was recorded yesterday. Top one.

  • The black guy on stage with them would end up in Eastenders

  • Have you got a rather large pock-it!

  • Think the lead singer is the bloke who played base in Northside too. Not sure bout that one though.

  • Lead singer is Liam Maher, who I believe works on Camden Market. Northside were from Manc, so Liam werent bassist for them.

And, it were The Farm who tried to "sign" Bez, not Flowered Up. They didnt need Bez, they had thelegend that was Barry Mooncult!!

  • No, he's not these are Londoner's and Northside are Manc's. Two good band's all the same, at the forefront of the time... then it get's spoilt. Coldply... Where the fuck did they come from?...

  • Remember Dr Trueman from Easternders? Bald Black Doctor, married Kat Slater. His brother Paul who was some kinda druggy is the guy dressed in the green pin stripe shirt with a straw hat with that stupid shaker thing. He's the low budget bez. Was on buzzcocks with em.

  • who are they, i dont recognise any of these faces?

  • .........Flowered Up were the London version of Happy Mondays (sort of) I believe they even tried to poach Bez from the Mondays on a transfer!! LOL. Good times man. Check out Weekender, now that is a fookin tune!!!

  • we knew 'flowered up' when they were first around, they were friends of ours, i dont recognise these people

  • flowered up were kind of laughed at when they came out but I agree, Weekender is one of the best singles ever.......underated band

  • Black guy in the hat played paul in eastenders. Useful fact, that!

  • gary beadle

think he grow up with them

  • Barry Mooncult (I'm sure that was a deliberate mis-spelling by the band themselves ;o) appeared on Never Mind the Buzzcocks in 2003 in and Identity Parade line-up (complete with flower smock!). Gary Beadle was on the same episode on Phill Jupitus' team and appeared quite embarrased when he was identified in the video! XoD

  • is gud song this. i saw them at some dodgy club in hulme or somewhere with northside back in early 90s. gud nite it woz.

  • Superb chooon, takes me back to my youth in the early 90's

  • I went to see these quite a few times, this one occasion the guitarist threw his metal slide into the crowd and hit my mate in the head... I couldn't stop pi**ing myself. I've still got it. I met up with the lead singer after the gig and he wrote on my T-shirt 'Go and see my mum coz she might ave some E' Good days!!!

  • what kind of strat is that its fucking nice

  • went to see flowered up at buckley tivoli in the 90s they still sound great today

  • Reformed and still up for it I hear...2008 and c'mon up 2 THE SCOTLAND

  • remember there party organised by Basil the glazier aka Mooncult, at the empty millionaires mansion in Blackheath complete with in door swimming pool, chandeliers and spiral staircase? Almost got my throat cut for that!

  • THE FUCKING BOLLOCKS

  • This is differnet to the 12" I have1 Still fucking shit hot though! Is it meant to be that slow, im sure it should be faster, or maybe im too used to pitching it up on the decks. Fuck it, who cares1
