  • It's ok! I baby talk my Python all the time!

  • are these good pets

  • how did you tame them, they are very calm. and what are you giving them to eat usually

  • @2LiveCrewRemix Hey I checked out that website. I currently have a 40 gal from Petsmart, the biggest the offer. My bts is abt 7 yrs old and abt 2ft long, the same length as 2 floor tiles in a store. Trying to find a bigger tank as been a nightmare. It would be cool to have one with a front sliding door, but I didn't see that. Also I use reptile bark in the tank. What are your takes on that? And he has a couple nails that are getting long. Any ideas on how to get them trimmed?

  • @cstamey85 glasscagesdotcom is the site I ordered my sliding front tank from and it was shipped via UPS. Shipping was $40, but worth it. If you need to find one locally, a small specialty pet store might be your best bet. Maybe they could special order something? I tried reptile bark but it was not absorbent and it seems easier for them to burrow into the cypress mulch. My skinks' nails stay short from a rough slate tile in their tanks. But you can trim their nails with bird clippers.

  • @2LiveCrewRemix What cage did you buy from there?

  • I'm 11 years old and I am going to buy a baby blue tongue skink. I'm buying it on layaway so what do u recommend food for it at first?

  • @bumblebee1249 Please go to bluetongueskinksDOTnet and read the care sheet. It will tell you about food, temperature, lighting, and everything else you need to know.

  • @2LiveCrewRemix are you a member of the forum on bts.net

  • @SuperSnakeman101 I am but I haven't posted in a long time!

  • Where did u get your top tank? I'm looking to get a bigger tank for mine, but am having a hard time finding one.

  • @cstamey85 65gal Acrylic Sliding Front from glasscagesDOTcom

  • OH MY GOD THATS SO CUTE O.O

  • where did you get the terrarium for your skink thats on the ground?

  • we have a pair in our garden about to have some babies! so happy! this video is just making me even more excited haha.

  • Why do they call it a blue tongue skin-

*Sees it crawl out of cage*

    Right...that name is spot on.

  • I love Ping he is soo cute!!

  • Same

  • awh, their so cuteee ! im getting one soon!(:

  • Please make some more care videos and setup howtos!

  • Whered you buy your northern?

I really want one of these but dont know where to get them or how much they are in British Columbia?

  • Your babies are so loving! Too cute! Mine grew up alone in a petshop, so I am slowly rehabilitating him to be a lover, too. He's a fat (not obese) happy lizard who loves only me so far, but he's a work in progress... He's quite a hisser, but never bites... He plays like he's "hard" but we know he's just a scaredy lizard... he used to be so anti social, that petshop staff would give him one look and he would hiss... I guess they weren't brave enough. But he's just a darling.

  • im more of a snake guy but i think this type of lizard is amazing :)

  • @nateDawg12346 lol, their legs are so small that they kinda look like snakes XD

  • @CashSmeller lmao that proably is one of the reasons why these types of lizards are so damn cute X)

  • @nateDawg12346 yup, i have a bearded dragon (just got him) and he's an awesome lizard, still a little shy and scared of me, but a good lizard, but maybe in a year or two (if my parents will let me) i might get one of these...they're so cool!

  • @CashSmeller really well i hope the best for you to get one :) going to this reptile show today so i might get one if my parents let me :D

  • @nateDawg12346 Nice! :)

  • they r awesome little guys

  • i saw a MASSIVE one at school

  • is ping the northern or blue tongue? srry, i don't know THAT much about blue tongues, but i honestly cannot tell the difference between northern and tanimbar lol

  • @CashSmeller Ping is a Northern and Riley is a Tanimbar. Notice the black and yellow splotches on Ping's sides and the stripes on his back. Notherns have a bold pattern. Tanimbars are smaller and more monochromous in their coloring. Riley is silver and white, but they can range in color from silver to yellow to brown. Tanimbars have small "beady" little eyes. They are very dark brown. Northerns have bigger eyes, lighter in shade, that can be tan to reddish brown.

  • @2LiveCrewRemix okay, thanks! my parents might let me get one of these (possibly.) lol! i'm having trouble deciding between one of these and a bearded dragon...

  • @2LiveCrewRemix and one more question, if you don't mind: is it possible for an adult northern to not have to eat mammals, such as rodents? as in, can i feed it a variety of insects, fruits, and vegetables instead of adding small mammals to that?

  • @CashSmeller Yes, their diet is so varied that it is not mandatory to feed mice.

  • Hi I have recently got two blue tongue skink babies one is older than the other the one that is younger is in shed and not eating or drinking or moving! PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

  • @TheChillpill99 It is normal for a skink to withdraw during shed time. They may stay buried for days prior to the shedding, without moving or eating or drinking. The best thing to do during this time is leave them alone. Also, if these two are in the same tank, separate them as soon as possible. When they grow up, they will fight.

  • @2LiveCrewRemix Do I still have to separate them if they are male and female?

  • @TheChillpill99 Yes. If they are babies now you have know way of knowing the sex yet. Even if they do turn out to be male and female, the male will harass the female, who will defend herself and hurt the male. They are solitary animals. See this video for how they react to another skink in the wild: watch?v=hgxTjzE4yOw

  • @2LiveCrewRemix Hi is weird that my bts like to sleep the way bts breed or is it just for warmth?

  • @TheChillpill99 He sounds like he's not that interested in his habitat... Which isn't good. I recommend that you wake him up to vary his "monotonous day to day life." Plus it increases your bond with it so that it will recognize you. Mine sleeps a lot too, but is sleeping less when I give him something to do and is gradually becoming more social.

  • ummm i have i question.... can i use cocofiber as substrate for blue tongue skinks? like those eco earth ones

  • @sartung Yes, that's a fine substrate for blue tongues.

  • I have a question about Blue tongues. I have one and I'm not sure if its a male of female. Also! It always pushes on the glass of the cage with its nose.. Is it normal? Or is he un-happy? I recently started handling him a lot and letting him walk around me room. And it doesn't push against the glass as much anymore. but still does it. It's done that sense I got it. Thank you :) OH! and can skinks have cage mates?

  • @wiellin270 1) It is not possible to tell gender by looking. When males reach maturity, they will leave sperm plugs when they poo. This is how I know mine are male. 2) They don't seem to understand glass. It can confuse them. If he is rubbing his nose then I think he's trying to push through the glass, and it's a good time to let him out to explore. When mine does this, I open the door and he comes right out into my hand. 3) No cage mates, they will fight.

  • I love their short little legs! <3

  • How much did pink encloser cost?

  • hey, love your blue tongues, they look beautiful. what kind of light u sing them? And also what is that substrate you are using for them, help me pls, i want to buy one

  • @hasanarkan Lighting is a normal incandescent flood bulb from Home Depot for heat, and a ReptiSun 10.0 fluorescent tube for UVB. Substrate is cypress mulch.

  • what cadge do you use

  • where did u get the enclosure :)

  • @wetdog306 GlassCages 65 gal acrylic sliding front

  • are they tame from the beggining?

  • @billfantazzz No, as babies they were frightened and aggressive. With gentle handling they can grow up to be very tame and trusting.

  • Is it mandatory to hibernate blue tongue skink?

  • @XTrueXDevil Brumation. It is necessary if you want to breed, but otherwise no. Riley doesn't do it for some reason, in spite of lowered temperatures and shorter photoperiods. Ping tends to cease eating for a couple months but remain somewhat active. Neither is a true brumation.

  • My mum won't let me get 1 cuz of salmonella... I'm 14... i have a 12 year old sister and a 18 year old sister... noone pregnant... noone elderly... Any advice?

  • @DrkJay777 Salmonella is not an issue as long as you keep the skink's enclosure clean (change bedding regularly and clean up each poo), and wash your hands after handling. The salmonella scare began in the 70's when baby turtles became popular. People used them as display things, in fishbowls on their coffee tables, neglecting their care. They lived in filthy water and toddlers would put them into their mouths, absorbing all the filth from the water, and contracting salmonella.

  • @DrkJay777 your mom is an idiot

  • @Mcpeanut12 I know...

  • My skink is really shy do u have any tips because urs seems very comfortable with u. And I take him out all the time but he funs and hides idk y. I've never done anything to harm him

  • My skink is really shy do u have any tips

  • My skink is really sketchy do u have any tips.

  • and they are as smart as a tegu so pretty smart lizards.

  • haha you got some awesome blue tongues =) Ive been wanting one for about a year now and almost got one but I got my brazilian rainbow boa instead. still really want one though cus they seem so curious and interactive kinda like a beardie but not as much crickets and not as common.

  • so do you find that your BTS wants to go out alot? i wanna get one so bad.

  • @Bazil1869 Yes, Ping scratches to come out almost every day. He is very curious. Sometimes I think he just wants a more comfortable place to nap. He will pace nonstop until I bring him out, and then he'll just fall asleep under a cushion.

  • I HAVE A QUESTION. Do these guys make good display animals?

  • @FattyDudley I am not sure what you mean by display. Like in a classroom? Or as part of a reptile collection just to be looked at? Mine are so curious and eager to come out of their tanks. I think it would be cruel to keep such inquisitive animals around just for display purposes. I really believe it's good for them to interact with their keepers regularly, so they lose their natural fear of people. Otherwise every interaction will be a source of stress.

  • @2LiveCrewRemix I love to handle animals. It's good if BTS love to be handled, but I think that too much handling might stress em out, so are they good to look at or do they only hide all day?

  • @FattyDudley They do spend a lot of time hiding. It is not unusual to spend a couple of days in a row hidden away, and just before shedding they will hide for a week or more. They especially like to soak in their humid hides for long periods. But I observe mine basking a lot too, as well as rooting around their tanks, drinking, or begging us for treats by staring at us and pawing at the glass.

  • @2LiveCrewRemix So they're fairly fun to observe?

  • @FattyDudley Yes, I enjoy watching them.

  • Hey, I'm considering getting a Blue tongue skink. I'm not a beginner reptile keeper but havent ever had a blue tongue skink. can anyone help me out and and plaese tell me the care for these lizards? PLEASE RESPOND

  • they are sooooooo cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute!!!!!

  • @sideshow0192 get a bearded dragon.. they can sit for hours on your shoulder.. :)

  • That is so funny my name is Riley!!

  • My mom tells me that if I ever get another pet it will be this.

  • my BTS will walk on my hand from out of his tank and he doesnt realy huff an puff anymore so does tha mean tha if i carry on then he will become like urs or do i have to do sommin differant??

  • @SuicidalXboxers Every skink is different but it sounds like things are going well. He isn't afraid of you so that's a good thing.

  • @2LiveCrewRemix oh no he isnt scared of me infact cos hes in mi room an i have covers tha go over his tank cos otherwise the light will wake me up but when i lift them up he there waiting for me so he is used to me

  • @2LiveCrewRemix but i do love ur BTS cos its so cute cos he/ she was scratching at the door so yeah i would love it if sid did tha but yeah thanks

  • how did you get Ping so tame? I recently got a BTS and he is pretty social when hes out of his tank but wants none of it if i reach into his tank, hisses and flattens out and all. ive only had him for like 3 weeks so hopefully with time he will get better . any suggestions? i also have a northern, and as an adult size how offten do you feed him?

  • @TheBSRecord 3 weeks isn't very long, it will take time. The key is to make every interaction positive. Remember from his perspective you look like a predator. First try leaving your hand in the tank without touching him, so he becomes used to your presence. Try giving him a snack each time you take him out of the tank (berries are good for this). When he is out, wrap him in a towel so he feels secure and just sit with him, watch TV or something. Adults only need to eat 2-3 times a week.

  • @2LiveCrewRemix do you know whether this advice is relevant for ball pythons, too? he's not mine; he's my family's. I just want to face my fear of handling snakes by getting familiar with one my family says is safe. Thanks!

  • @ChronicHeaven I don't have snake experience, but my thinking on why BTS are docile is that they are more prey than predator. They aren't aggressive except to other BTS. By treating them gently, and by being the person who feeds them, you are no longer seen as a predator but as a non-threatening part of their environment. I've read when hungry snakes go into "feeding mode" they can get aggressive, but a well fed pet snake can be very tame. But try asking a snake owner for the best advice. :)

  • titanic... nice

  • @sideshow0192 BTS can be very tame but they aren't so good at hanging on to shoulders, due to their tiny legs.

  • @2LiveCrewRemix do they bite ?

  • May I ask what you're using as a hide within Riley's tank? It seems very effective and looks very nice!

  • @ShadowToxin I used aquarium silicone to glue bricks to a slate tile. Bought the bricks and tile from Home Depot, silicone from a fish store. I used the aquarium silicone because it will not give off any harmful fumes once cured and it's very strong. He basks on top of it and underneath is a warm place to hide.

  • damn how did u get him to like u so much? how long u had him?

  • wow you have such a good bond with him! how did you get this bond!Plz replyy! Xo

  • Oh no not this vid again D:

  • Don't hand feed them. D: If they see your hand, they'll associate it with food and...chomp.

  • What lovely lizards! so cute. <3

  • are the skinks a good beginner pet lizard

  • nice vid please check out my vids and comment and subscribe...im getting one of those very soon

  • what size of tank would be good for one.plz respond

  • @xXM0nst3rXx1 48x18 minimum for an adult. Please see my response to another commenter, "KidBluey", for some more information.

  • Hello. I love your Blue Tongues! What size enclosures are they in? I might be getting one soon and I was going to keep it in a 36x18 though I would like a larger enclosure, thats the largest size I can fit in my room.

  • @KidBluey Riley's tank is 36x18 and while it works for him, because he is smaller and not very active, I wouldn't recommend it for their entire life. Ping's tank is 48x18 which is a good size, but due to his length and activity level I have started to feel it's too small! I plan to upgrade both skinks to 6' enclosures this year. But, I think it would be okay to start with a 36x18 as long as you promise your skink to upgrade later, and take it out for lots of mental stimulation.

  • they seem very loving are they all like this

  • @COUSTOMstubbykiller Well ALL blue tongue skinks are special... but some are a little more special than others...

  • were did you get him i want 1 really bad and were did you get the cage

  • Aww thats awesome that he scratches at the enclosure when he wants out

  • awww its sos sweet and friendly.

  • its poop for sure!

  • aww they're so cute and sweet :3

  • I'm going to getting one of these cuties soon. They're so endearing, I can't wait to start tricking out a terrarium. :D Adorable critters you've got.

  • lol youR "like you want a berry?"

and hes just like" FUCK YES I WANT A BERRY!!!"

  • Lush

  • Also, where did u buy the tank, i love the tank!( pings)

  • Also, my basking temp is fine but my overall temps are not they are like 78 and my skinks never goes on the cool side of the tank with the forset soil. Any tips with temp????

  • @BlueTongueBallPython 78 ambient temp is fine. BTS are not tropical lizards and do fine at room temperature as long as they can get to a 100 degree basking area. Right now it's winter so the skink may be in brumation. I got my tank from glasscages.

  • I have a 7 month irian jaya. And he never claws at the door. Ro anything. Will it happen with the longer inown him? Or do i have to train him???? Thanks

  • @BlueTongueBallPython Every skink is different. Ping claws at the door and Riley does not. Riley is shy and nervous and prefers the safety of his tank, while Ping is more active and outgoing. I suggest making time outside the tank enjoyable for the lizard, and the scratching behavior may develop. Feed him outside the tank, let him sleep under a pillow next to you while you watch TV, set up an obstacle course with hidden treats for him to find, etc.

  • what are the biggest species of blue tongues?

  • Celine Dion and Blue tongued skinks! thats how they stay so chill!

  • What is the smallest species of Blue-Tongued Skinks aside from the Pygmy BTS and the Tanimbar BTS? Please reply I want to get one of these.

  • @FattyDudley Pygmies are endangered so it's not possible to keep one as a pet. Tanimbars are the smallest of those available in America, followed by Easterns I suppose. Why do you want the smallest one available? The difference is negligible so they have the same care requirements.

  • @2LiveCrewRemix Ok I'll guest I'll buy the Eastern BTS sometime this year after I move out. And btw, what subtrate are you using?

  • @FattyDudley The substrate is cypress mulch.

  • Aw, they are adorable. O:!!! And they look really happy. I bet Riley went after your fingers because you smelled like berries. xD "You smell so delicious I just can't resist. ;A;" I feed my lizard messy things with a baby spoon or a plastic fork. He is the most spoiled bearded dragon EVER. O-O

  • my mom wont let me buy one until i move out of home :(

  • He just wanted some "lady fingers".

  • Can they be playful, and intelligent?

  • what is their intelligence can they be friendlt?

  • Comment removed

  • wow hes cute so friendly

  • hi that is soo cool how tame they both are

i'm hoping of getting a skink too

any information anyone can give me will be really apprcieted

    thanks

  • I love skinks, they are very intelligent lizards

  • which subspecies gets biggest?

  • Im planning to buy one at an expo in january, if I dont find one I like or a good deal then I wanna order online. The lighter ones are northern right? Cuz I know the darker ones are eastern but I think the lighter colors are just so pretty. Would a 55g work ok? I just got one yesterday so Im prepared ahead of time.

  • @Giusep00 Easterns are rather rare in the US. BTS come in all shades, even Northerns, but Ping is a typical colored Northern. My light silver skink is a Tanimbar. Irian Jayas can range from light tan and orange to dark chocolatey brown. 55g is okay but not ideal. The typical 55g is around a foot wide but a BTS will be longer than 12", more like 18" - 21". Therefore the BTS does not have sufficient room to comfortably turn around and will always be bumping his nose against the glass.

  • @2LiveCrewRemix Thanks! Well i plan on getting what people are calling a medium, a small adult or older baby, so I might just use it as a temporary tank for now. But there are so many cheap enclosures where I am, so Im sure I'll be able to find somethin.

  • i love these. im getting one. can you maybe send me a message saying what is needed to take care of them. thank you :)

  • @millionairmilo google, BTS (blue tongue skink) care, there are a lot of care sheets on there....

  • @raulromeropty thankz

  • @millionairmilo you're welcome, good luck with yours! they're awesome pets.

  • @millionairmilo Read through this then decide if a BTS is the right pet for you: wwwDOTbluetongueskinksDOTnet/care.htm

YouTube sucks, they need to let authors of videos put URLs in comments!!!

  • what are the meanest BTS there are cuz i want a nice one

  • wow awesome skinks i like them waay more then beardies=)

  • are they good pets and do they bite when u do something bad to em

  • are blue tounges good pets

  • Wow, how long did it take for them to get so tame? :)

  • @bluesoda025 Around a year I suppose. A couple months less for Ping to start scratching to come out and a little more for Riley to get over his nervousness.

  • @2LiveCrewRemix i gt 1 thas was born early this year but i gt him in may for mi bday how long do u think it will take him to become like tha an he looks out the glass every mornin an he will walk onto mi hand is tha gd start?

  • i have a baby blue tongue but i dont know wat type like i dont know if its an eastern a northern or anything it doesnt look like any of them lol hes only about 4 weeks old

  • @frog4life100 You're in Aus? Probably an Eastern, there is a lot of variety in their look depending on locale. If you upload a video I can tell you.

  • @2LiveCrewRemix yes im in aus and i will try to upload a vid of my little champ soon im guessing it is an eastern but its a bit hard to tell seeing the last time i had one was when i was 6 and she got out of the aviary and ended up living under the house and in the back yard lol

  • awww hes lovely! like a little dog x)

  • i want one of these so much :(

  • they are sooo cute haha

  • really cool skink, is that a northern? mines from new guinea, got her about a year ago, so far not shes been ok, but I can't find a substrate that really works, it keeps bugging one of her eyes, do you have any suggestions?

  • @drunkentoad96 I have a Northern and a Tanimbar. Have you tried cypress mulch? You can mist it from time to time to keep the humidity a little higher, for the New Guinea subspecies. Since they burrow, they are meant to get a little dust in their eyes. They sneeze it out, or it works its way out of the eye eventually, or white blood cells in their passages can break it down. If substrate still bothers your skink, you can try using a bunch of old towels/tshirts and laundering the soiled ones.

  • Comment removed

  • @2LiveCrewRemix Thanks! I think I'll be sure to try that. Where did you get your skinks? And what size of an enclosure do you keep them in? Once again thanks, and thanks from my skink too, I'm sure :)

  • @drunkentoad96 I got Ping from Andrew Seike and Riley from Ray Gurgui. Larger enclosure is 48"x18", other one is 36"x18" and needs an upgrade (but Riley is small; it would not be enough room for Ping). I forgot to mention, I've read of a few skinks that seem to have persistent problems with particulate substrate but it clears up when it is changed to paper towels or cloth. But if his eye remains irritated after switching substrates, take him to an exotics vet. He may need an antibiotic.

  • @2LiveCrewRemix Thanks but I don't think that we have a reptile vet near us

  • @drunkentoad96 Search Google for "Herp Vet Connection". It has lists by state. In a pinch sometimes a cat/dog vet will prescribe antibiotics, just gotta make sure they research proper dosage, information that can be found on anapsid.org.

  • @2LiveCrewRemix Thanks I'll do that right now

  • @2LiveCrewRemix I had a look at the site and found that there was only 1 or 2 near me( I live in BC Canada ) But if I get the chance I will go check them out. thanks

  • Comment removed

  • @2LiveCrewRemix Thanks, but i don't think we've got a reptile vet in the area, but I've moved my skink on to paper towel and her eye is getting way better, and I've just ordered some cypress mulch for her, thanks once again.

  • is ping a female or male. also from your experiences are males or females more friendly also do you have to feed ping food thats alive. i would feel bad having to feed a blue tongue live food. and is your electric bill expensive i really want to get a blue tongue but i also have to think budget. once again ping is so amazing. never seen anything like this. also you say sorry for the baby talk. i bet you being so loving and friendly has to be a huge factor that your lizards are so friendly

  • @Pandabearmadness They are both male. I don't think gender makes a difference in tameness and it's not possible to tell the sex of a baby skink. I don't have to feed them live food, but they enjoy nightcrawlers and other worms. They eat pre-killed mice, not live because it's unnecessarily cruel and live mice can injure a reptile. I don't really have a before and after comparison of the electric bill but it's not bad...just light bulbs... it would be like leaving porch lights on every night.

  • wow i never knew lizards showed so much emotion. your lizards are so cute. wow
