  • If they win they get a few bucks, if they lose they lose one? huh! When people are suffering they don't feel like they've won especially if the win is just a few dollars. That's like a guy with a broken back getting excited about winning a game of tic-tac-toe for matchsticks. Try giving ten thousand dollars if you win Doc. then see if anorexics don't know the difference between winning and losing. BTW: Anyone who gets excited about winning a few bucks should see a shrink. huh?

  • I was one of the people in Dr. Kaye's clinical study. I am a former anorexic. I think what he is doing is wonderful and I hope he continues his research to get better therapy/treatment for this horrible disorder. I hope that anyone suffering from this does not give up. There is a light at the end of the tunnel!

  • You come on! We all know it's the job of our educational system to teach kids everything they need to know. The federal Bank Reserve has mandated that our taxes be so high that both parents must work themselves to exhaustion. If they could teach personal health, philosophy, morality and love in school, they would. But that would be religious. Anorexics aren't afraid of the munchies!

They've got hundreds of tricks on the internet. Besides, she looks great !!!

  • So you mean the parents are not responsible for their kids' mental and intellectual health? Stop looking for somebody else to blame all the time. The educational system is so messed up, they let kids graduate without being able to read or write. Everybody is "special" even if they've done nothing to deserve the title just because they don't want to fail anyone. It's common knowledge. So how can you expect them to teach anything valuable? The tax dollars go to wars and corruption. Live with it!

  • Spunk E! Kids iz like pets. U take em to the vet & injeck stuff. Then, u let evolushun do the wurk. Parints iz only alowed 2 B like baby sitters. I seen it on TV. Skools let evolushon wurk the same majik. But somebody'z makin polocies! Where they hidin? U don't know, cuz U 2 dumb & they'z

takin yur rights away. FED. INCOME TAX started in 1913, wich the Supreme Court decided iz UNCONSTITUTIONAL!

Yur $ pays Banks! Sucka! War iz a seprate charje! Din't U learn that?

  • She looks terrible! Her head looks huge.

  • Oh, that's because tv cameras can add 10 pounds to your appearance. If you met her in person, I'm sure her head would be almost half that huge. She

probably has the perfect look for movies

and acting. I hope she continues her career

in media. She did such a convincing job in

this video. If she puffed her hair up, that would help too. I think that's the new style now?

    Skeletons with puffy hair . . . .

  • That's because her head was modified through image metrics.

  • I don't get how you could see yourself fat when you're that bony. Don't they notice that since they'r so thin almost everyone around them is fatter than them?

  • People are often the worst judges of themselves. Look at all the overweight people who think they are healthy.

  • Yeh but some overweight people might think of unhealthy as in critical condition, and they feel ok so they might just say they're healthy.

But anorexic's even say they feel bad and how their body hurts and stuff, so they know that they're not healthy, but they still think that they're fat so they worry more about that than becoming so thin they die.

  • I'm no expert, but I think that girls are taught to associate their "beauty" with success & lovability from early childhood, thanks to the media & people who direct their shallowness at others. I think anorexics doubt themselves & take control of the problem by getting rid of the fat. Rather than seeing body proportions, they are focused on the fat under the skin.

As they lose it, they sense control which reassures them for the moment, but it doesn't make them happy.

  • itsaMASQUERADE, as someone who suffered badly from anorexia nervosa for 30 yrs and is now in recovery. Anorexia is NOT about beauty, vanity or narcicissm. It's about regulating feelings and trying to survive/cope in the world. Sometimes this is because of traumatic experiences in childhood (e.g. bullying, abuse, family dysfunction). Sometimes girls cannot cope with puberty and how this changes their body shape, especially if they have been sexually abused or they mature early (CONT...)

  • It's very unfortunate that anorexia nervosa has been associated with fashion, models and beauty. The incidence of anorexia is similar to what it was 100-200+ yrs ago - approx. 1% of the female population. Bulimia nervosa is on the increase and can be brought on by dieting. I found it difficult to explain why I starved myself other than that I had thoughts in my head that I MUST do it, especially when I was stressed. It's a mental illness, not a lifestyle choice. A genetic risk sounds plausible.

  • Um, yeah. I used quotes 4 the word

"beauty." Women DO learn that beauty is a power, especially in regards 2 men & social acceptance. I'm sure that thin women receive less judgment from others than larger people also. I see anorexia as a subconcious attempt 2 feel in control from human stresses. As a skinny male, I spent 3 yrs force feeding myself 2 look bigger. 2 some degree it worked & I felt mentally strong 4 it. But it didn't bring happiness. Now, I diet.

  • I also don't agree with the notion that genes & "viruses" control our thinking. Chemicals in our body can create "sensations" that influence our thinking strongly, but I don't think that's the main cause. The word illness makes it sound physical.

That's a common deception people use 2 change other's thinking rather than their own. Considering that 1/4 of people R control freaks, I'm not surprised. Joy comes from the inside. Eating right & introspection can help.

  • The operating principle is no different from steroid abuse, workaholism, or anything that offers short-term gain with long-term risk, so how could they find this only in the brains of anorexics?

I'm really concerned about this trend of finding physiological reasons for behavioral disorders. It's an unwarranted confirmation that values and morals are meaningless. And the slippery slope of genetic cleansing and preference comes more clearly into view.

  • a hockey fan concerned with values and morals.

  • Nothing strange about that.

  • hockey fans pleasure in its violence.

  • Yes, we need more obsessive-compulsive, adrenaline rush, hockey addicts & throw in some basketball, foot ball, macho worshipping thugs to go & beat up those nerdy, drug pushing, computer health geeks ! Go get 'em! Pow! Pow! Why should we waste good drug money on a bunch of depressed chics who want to look like skeletons? Lets weed out the gene pool naturally! Throw 'em on the ice rink and smack 'em around. Think of all the

    drug money generated for sports-aholics!

  • hmmm...you'd think it was the opposite so they'd keep losing weight to get that "reward"

  • Kinda interesting..
