  • What a tragedy that this isn't the full version!

  • Comment removed

  • This is from Austin City Limits in 1976 and over the last several years New West has brushed off a few requests I've made into its possible release. More fans need to contact them to appeal to their financial if not artistic sense. With the recent re-release of his albums on vinyl, relative popularity of alt-country / folk, and a devoted fan base, they may eventually hear us. If you care about his work, you should want this out there so let New West know.

  • This is the clip from "Be here to love me" Great doc. Heartworn Highways is also my favorite

  • @vanzandt71 I would also love to see that

  • Where's the rest?!?!?!?!?!?!?

  • Nice pickin too.

  • Awesome.

    Thanks Townes

  • I have this show but only on cd

  • I CONTACTED NEW WEST RECORDS which releases some of the Ausin City limits older stuff which is Steve Earle tied up in it some way they said its out of print. However as you can see they let them put parts of this 1976 show in the film. ttOWNES NEEDS TO BE SHARED AND APPRECIATED

  • I've heard clips from this show. It was "Don't you take it too bad". Where can we get the full show? I just can't shake it, I must hear the whole thing!

  • If I could show people from other countries what great American music is, I would show them Townes Van Zandt.

  • I'm from Argentina, Patagonia, the end of the world... WHAT A HELL OF A SONGWRITTER TOWNES WAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thank you north american guys for that!

  • this is from the first season of austin city limits in 1976. i email them every 6 months or so to request they officially release it but haven't gotten anywhere. it is tragic to think of this show sitting around somewhere unappreciated.

  • Post the e-mail address and maybe others can send a similar message.

  • This version is so awsome it pisses me off you can only see the beggenning.

  • I think it was in Amsterdam. Buy the dvd: "Be here to Love me'.

    It's a must have.

  • This isn't Amsterdam. It's ACL I'm pretty sure. It is on "Be here to Love me' tho as I recall.

  • Top Top Townes....Unbelievable. Thanks

  • Does anybody know where and when this particular concert is? There is obviously quite a bit of footage from it so hopefully it will be out one day. Or is it already? A bootleg?

  • "... and he learned it from me"...

as long as i feel like dying while listening I'm so thankful it doesn't kill me but makes me live!!!

  • Oh, I love Townes! This is the best version of Dollar Bill Blues I've heard! I wish they could have given us the whole song..

  • if you don't post that interview, it would be a crime against humanity! But seriously post it.

  • ..saw townes belt this out in London in 1996just weeks before he died; half the speed and beautifully raw but with exquisite delivery. I was fortunate to meet townes five times in all the first ocassion was in Merseyside England when I conducted and recorded an interview with him for BBC Radio. It was never broadcast however and remains quite a treasure. May post it at some point if folk are interested..? long live the mighty townes

  • Please find some way to make that interview available to the collective.

  • I'm working on it..

  • do put it up, please

  • of course we are interested. post it you tease

  • Absolutely post it if you are able. It would be a crime not to. Townes was one of a kind and any of his interviews need to be preserved for posterity.

  • Let it out please! May I suggest you offer a copy to Jeanene & the kids too. and please post a link here if you do post it.

    Thanks!

  • @vanzandt71 Hi pal. of course i'd sure love to see that video you speak off, I am sure many others that have not taking the time to read your comment like they do so often might be very happy to see it too. so as a favor to a new friend could you please upload it so we all can see it??!!! i'd be mighty greatful to you for doing it and if it's ok I would like to add you as a friend on here. take care and a big hello from your new canadian friend.

    wendell.

  • @vanzandt71 Please post your interview, these things are important.

  • @lordkoos

hi lordkoos (and all van zandt fans).

I am writing to clarify that my interview with townes which was conducted in merseyside in april 1994 is AUDIO and not a VIDEO (although I certainly wish I could have filmed it..!). Also I must apologise for not posting it yet.. I plan to do this over the next month.

  • Thanks so very much for this. I don't think I have ever seen Townes smile and look happy. I thought it was impossible from another documentary I saw. I am glad I saw him happy, if only for a brief time. Thank you.

  • @vanzandt71 u have to (please)...sure evrybody would love to see it. me included

  • @vanzandt71 please post!

  • Townes has a soul-felt, peerless quality that comes from his heart. It's a quality that is ineffable, but so damn beautiful! He truly is one of the GREATEST songwriters ever to pluck out a tune. And he is pure, unsullied spirit all the way!!!

  • Nice, clean guitar playing! Love the simultaneous strumming and picking...

  • I've got this DVD, it is cheap from Amazon. Tell someone you want it for Christmas.

  • If only. Seems to be rather hard to find. The only copy I have found up to now is £38 ($75)

  • Would really like to hear the whole song cause it really is an ass kicker.

  • ...love the guitar rhythm.

  • How many times I have heard him ring this one out at The Sword & Stone in OKC. His film obviously doesn't include his beginnings there as well Guy Clark coming in on his coattail. I guess we weren't important enough to be mentioned. So, there is more to Townes' story than a film.

  • one would have thought they'd have included the whole performance on the DVD.

  • Yeah, that's what I was hoping for too when I bought it. Would have been a nice idea for bonus material to include some of the concerts - or at least some of the songs - completely...

Still, the film itself was already worth the money

  • very nice..good post! 5/5
