This is from Austin City Limits in 1976 and over the last several years New West has brushed off a few requests I've made into its possible release. More fans need to contact them to appeal to their financial if not artistic sense. With the recent re-release of his albums on vinyl, relative popularity of alt-country / folk, and a devoted fan base, they may eventually hear us. If you care about his work, you should want this out there so let New West know.
I CONTACTED NEW WEST RECORDS which releases some of the Ausin City limits older stuff which is Steve Earle tied up in it some way they said its out of print. However as you can see they let them put parts of this 1976 show in the film. ttOWNES NEEDS TO BE SHARED AND APPRECIATED
I've heard clips from this show. It was "Don't you take it too bad". Where can we get the full show? I just can't shake it, I must hear the whole thing!
this is from the first season of austin city limits in 1976. i email them every 6 months or so to request they officially release it but haven't gotten anywhere. it is tragic to think of this show sitting around somewhere unappreciated.
Does anybody know where and when this particular concert is? There is obviously quite a bit of footage from it so hopefully it will be out one day. Or is it already? A bootleg?
..saw townes belt this out in London in 1996just weeks before he died; half the speed and beautifully raw but with exquisite delivery. I was fortunate to meet townes five times in all the first ocassion was in Merseyside England when I conducted and recorded an interview with him for BBC Radio. It was never broadcast however and remains quite a treasure. May post it at some point if folk are interested..? long live the mighty townes
Absolutely post it if you are able. It would be a crime not to. Townes was one of a kind and any of his interviews need to be preserved for posterity.
@vanzandt71 Hi pal. of course i'd sure love to see that video you speak off, I am sure many others that have not taking the time to read your comment like they do so often might be very happy to see it too. so as a favor to a new friend could you please upload it so we all can see it??!!! i'd be mighty greatful to you for doing it and if it's ok I would like to add you as a friend on here. take care and a big hello from your new canadian friend.
I am writing to clarify that my interview with townes which was conducted in merseyside in april 1994 is AUDIO and not a VIDEO (although I certainly wish I could have filmed it..!). Also I must apologise for not posting it yet.. I plan to do this over the next month.
Thanks so very much for this. I don't think I have ever seen Townes smile and look happy. I thought it was impossible from another documentary I saw. I am glad I saw him happy, if only for a brief time. Thank you.
Townes has a soul-felt, peerless quality that comes from his heart. It's a quality that is ineffable, but so damn beautiful! He truly is one of the GREATEST songwriters ever to pluck out a tune. And he is pure, unsullied spirit all the way!!!
How many times I have heard him ring this one out at The Sword & Stone in OKC. His film obviously doesn't include his beginnings there as well Guy Clark coming in on his coattail. I guess we weren't important enough to be mentioned. So, there is more to Townes' story than a film.
Yeah, that's what I was hoping for too when I bought it. Would have been a nice idea for bonus material to include some of the concerts - or at least some of the songs - completely...
Still, the film itself was already worth the money
What a tragedy that this isn't the full version!
