i've worn a few suits that big, and they were pretty heavy. This guy must have a ton of energy to keep going in something that cumbersome. Being a mascot myself, I have to commend him.
Here's a few tips :) Stay animated, keep moving around. Anticipate the crowds' reactions to things & act accordingly. Use some flags if you have them & run around to pep them up. Do a few cart wheels after each touchdown (if your suit is light enough, don't hurt yourself!) Don't be afraid to flirt with the ladies. Be gentle with kids, don't scare them. Take breaks, drink water, and have fun!
I'll substitute victory dances for cartwheels, because I'm practicing little dance moves that'll make people laugh. Flirting with the ladies like how? I dunno how to flirt without talking :P Those are my only two .. questions?
You can still dance, that would be easier than cartwheels. Only do what you know you can do, and practice on newer moves, like the cartwheels in your spare time. That way, you won't hurt yourself in suit.
As far as flirting goes, keep it simple. Act like you're in love, or propose marriage by getting down on one knee, and act rejected if they say no. A simple rub on the head works too.
No worries, you'll get around the nonverbal part. it will become second nature after a while.
Okay, sounds good. I don't have much time to practice though. I go public on Thursday. I learnt the Soulja Boy over the weekend, I'm doing that at the pep rally. And I got tonnes of little dance moves. The problem with the cartwheel that I can clearly see is that the palms of the hands have no grip. It's all just fur so it'll be pretty dangerous on the waxed floor.
glad that i could help! You'll do great! Let me know how it goes!
Yeah, totally be careful with cartwheels. I have hurt myself a few times doing them, not to mention the strained tendons in my foot from performing over the past 7 years.
Knowing some dance moves is good! I was asked to "get my eagle on" at the game today myself. BTW, what sort of mascot are you?
that's awesome. Currently, I'm a Shark, an Eagle and two dogs (all down in upstate NY). I'm doing a huge project on mascot marketing for my college sports management class on how they help promote teams and give back to the community. Hope to get it published.
Mine's just a high school mascot, not as big as college :P It's just that it's the Provincial Volleyball tournament, so it's a HUGE thing because this is the 2nd time it's been hosted here. So I really want to do a good job :P
I think you'll do great. And High school is the best place to start! I was a greyhound for one of the two high schools i went to, and a lion for the other. I feel so old when I say that! Though, out of all the characters I've been over the years, I've never been a husky.
Pep Rally went down today! It was AWESOME, I loved it so much and a lot of people told me I did a really good job :D Afterwords all the little kids down in grades K - 6 wanted me to come visit they're classrooms.
I might be able to find some videos on facebook, if so I'll post it so you can see. The tournament starts tomorrow :D can't wait
I wish there were mascots in sweden to, but this country is way behind the rest of society O__o I would love to be one, but there isn't anyone that wants a mascot, so double damn.
Shit the same, my first fursuit will be done soon ^^ I'll be happy with that for now.

I'm just starting as a mascot next weekend at the volleyball tournament, haven't really worn the suit much yet. Any tips to get the crowds pumped up?

A Husky. I got a school jersey to wear over the husky suit too, yesterday. It fits perfectly :D

Ha lucky you! You get to mascot tomorrow while I have finals! lol. I'm on facebook as well, send me a note if you want the link.
I'm glad you had a great time! Making the kids happy is one of the best things about it. Best of luck with the tournament!
