  • prekrasna pjesma,Hrvati su bili najveci Partizani

  • Cásate conmigo Joan!!! :)

  • Give me Liberty or give me Death! Like Heinlein's one-armed freedom fighter, hanging in the barbed wire as they cut him to pieces: "FREEDOM! FREEDOM!". They pour across our borders now: we'll fight them from the hills, the mountains and the swamps! Death to the invaders! AMERICA FOREVER!!

  • Thank you Lucrezia for the Greek. (BTW, the great Canadian poet, singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen is of Greek-Jewish origin.)

  • Very good ! Not many can bring a song of the great Leonard Cohen so good!

  • I have always thought this should have been a Boer song.

  • Can anyone write here the lyrics at the end of the song ? It seems to be spanish or something but I don't speak it at all so I can't get it... Thanks a lot

  • @jeromedewart she sings the last verse in greek ...i can write down what i hear beacuse she doesn't say it so clearly...

  • @LucreziaB2912 she sings : anemi anemi sfurizoun ,stous tafous anemi sfurizoun, erxete i eleftheria , kai emeis mazi apo ta skotadia....which means:winds winds are blowing , through the graves winds are blowing ,the freedom comes , and we (come) together from the darkness....hope you can understand the greek with latin characters...

  • @LucreziaB2912 Shit, I'm learnin greek right now but didn't get it :D... Seems like I still must practice a lot

  • @jeromedewart trust me i am greek and i made a great effort to make out what she says...at first i also thought that she might sing spanish!!!

  • song written by Emmanuel d'Astier de La Vigerie 1943 for exactly the text (against dustch occupation)

  • "Into the hills I vanished..." Yeah, peace is a great thing, but you can't be a partisan and a pacifist. If you are going to be a partisan, don't forget to take your gun.

  • la meilleur

  • What a song ... What a voice ... What a message ...

  • best version ever by Noir Desir / 16 Horsepower

  • not close to cohen...

  • @winddancer1562 She's repeating the last verse in greek.

  • @bayonne64able Faux! (false) written by Emmanuel d'Astier de La Vigerie 1943

  • @bayonne64able ecrit par (written by )Emmanuel d'Astier de La Vigerie 1943!

  • CAn anyone translate the last verse for me? Please?

  • Freedom soon will come, then we'll come from the shadows...

  • Is there a CD of this album? I've lost my LP.

  • Great interpretation of orginal song of Anna Marly

Vive la résistance française, Vive la france !

  • For me the best version is by Buffy Sainte Marie check out her live 2008 performance on youtube incredible, stil, the song is so good it great by them all...

  • it was a french second during the 2nd world war

  • @hitjohnny yes, but I believe that Cohen's version was the first English adaptation. I can't find any recordings of the original "La complainte du partisan" (Emmanuel D'Astier de la Vigerie and Anna Marly) or "Chant des partisans" (J. Kessel and M. Druon).

It's a matter of preference really.

Regardless, Joan Baez has one of the most amazing voices I have ever heard and IMHO is an excellent songwriter and poet, even if Dylan didn't think so ;-)

  • @jimsabean who cares what that old woman, dylan, thinks. god has blessed him with amazing aptitude for music and lyrics. outside of that , i don't see him as a particularly generous or loving individual.

  • Cohen's version is the best, of course, but this is nice :-)

  • @jimsabean cohen is a writer, certainly not a singer. I disagree with your choice of versions.

  • @rfranklinw1 They are both writers AND singers. There's no need to mark my post as spam simply because I stated my preference for the ORIGINAL.

I like Cohen and I like Baez. Regardless, I stick to my guns on this one, Cohen sings this better than Baez, IMHO.

  • @jimsabean

Cohen's is a cover, too. He didn't write it

  • Great tune - an anthem for guerrilas and freedom fighters everywhere. No justice - no peace.

  • Love Joan.................

    Saskia

  • oh, and i got to see her live outdoors this summer at Fraze Pavillion in dayton ohio

  • thank you . i have the album but cant find the cd!!

  • You can find the album songs from her compilation of her AM recordings. It`s a 4-disc set. Enjoy!
