Nellie is a beautiful combination of grace and power. Many of the female gymnasts I have watched through the years have one or the other but not both. This takes me way back. Thanks for posting. Wes
Nellie was a thousand times better than Nadia ever was. Her skills were far more difficult than Nadia's, and her routines much more interesting. It will always be a mystery to me why everyone loves nadia so much
Kind of a disappointing segment. More than half of it didn't even show gymnastics! And no footage of '72 when Korbut did really well? Here she looks like she hasn't slept in three days. And while most '76 footage is all about Nadia, she was the all around champion. I don't see how you can focus on '76 without even a hint of Nadia.
Um yes they were incredible aggressive, they abused their gymnasts they over worked them but they produced champions because they knew how to do it. Sports was the most important thing to the soviet union, period.
so refreshing to see the 76 games without it being all about nadia. shes great but nellie was like the underdog, people hardly remember she scored a perfect 10 here too

I think I know why. These are all different docus I think and they pasted them together but missed 1972. I've seen parts of this before the last Olympics and there was definitely a docu on 1972. Why wouldn't there be anyway?
nicksline it's because she was the 1st person ever in the history of gymnastics to receive a perfect 10 in an olympic gymnastics event.

Poor Olga looks burnt out!
melamia71 3 years ago 3
Yeah, she was.
By this point, Olga had realized that the Soviet government was
profiting from her tours & then overworked her (despite her injured ankle) for the Montreal Games.
She has said that she really didn't want to compete in 76.
The innocent joy from 72 was gone & the worldwide "stardom" had become an oppressive weight for her, especially as a Russian citizen.
I think that's why she took Nadia dominance at these games with such stride. Some of the burden was finally off her.

do you think in the URSS the coaches were agressives to the gymnasts?

Isn't part of this docu missing?
part 4 ends with Caslavska and part 5 starts with Nellie. Where are the 1972 OG??
Gymlover 4 years ago
No, nothing is missing. The docu just doesn't show anything from '72...

a part of 1976 is missing too cause that one didn't start with Nellie outside that was somewhere in the middle.

All right, thanks for the info. I found the Montreal part strange, now I know why.

After what competition was that interview at the beggining?

I was a 14 y/o admirer. Nellie was a tiger and continues to excel as a coach. I'am 46 and still have a crush on her.
