What do people keep talking about a contract we made with the government giving them the power to take money from us? I don't know about you, but I never signed a contract telling the government it can forcibly take money from me. What kind of bullshit contract is that? That's like an armed robber going into the 7-11 and telling the clerk he has to hand over the money because he signed a contract saying that armed robbers are allowed to take the money.
This guy is a moron trying to compare armed robbery to taxes. What country in the world doesn't have some sort of taxes? Sorry, but like death, taxes are part of life, even if you managed to cut gov't spending, there are still going to be taxes that you will have to pay, so GROW UP!
I didn't agree to join the democracy. I didn't sign a social contract. My choice was negated by force before I was born. I prefer the original Constitutional Republic, the way the USA was founded.

@EsClayWilson So because something wrong has been perpetrated since "day 1" I should just shut up about it and take it like a man. @WurledPeas Dude, grow up! Taxes are part of life. Sorry, but that is the price you pay for living in a safe, well off country. I'm sure Somalia or Afghanistan doesn't have too much in the way of taxes, so move there.
@EsClayWilson No stupid. EXCESSIVE taxes have nothing to do with a safe society. Well off???

@EsClayWilson I see. A leftists blog hack. Not perhaps too much government. Way too much government. And it grows by the day. Not that more governance doesn't please you. Knock it with the barely veiled but obviously false quasi moderate stance. No one is buying it. No one is asking for some frontier fantasy. Hyperbole much? Why is it always the dive straight to the extremes with your big gov types? I want to not be raped by the IRS and for you that means instant chaos.
i just wonder why Alan Colmes with his extreme socialist views and believes ,does not live in Cuba or North Korea or China or any other socialist country still in exsistens ? he does loves it so much ,so why not try it ?? ,but then he couldnt make the money he makes in / with those bad bad capitalism .....what a "pure soul" he is
Jan, you're never going to convince someone of the error of their ways if you can't restate their position in a way that they would agree to. Alan made it quite clear that he believes there is a difference between someone acting against someone else's will by force on behalf themselves, and someone acting against someone else's will by force on behalf the government. You can either agree to disagree, or try to show him why that is a double-standard.
@chehsed- you're never going to convince someone of the error of their ways if you can't restate their position in a way that they would agree to - some people, like Colmes will not agree to a restatement no matter how you say it; which led him to argue that individuals have the right to iniciate force???
Just FYI. You might want to include the question and how it was asked. The conservatives out there are known to twist words into making simple questions into biased bullshit.
As it stands, you got fucking nothing.
Check out Marc Thiessen LYING LIKE AN UNCHIRSTIAN UNAMERICAN DOG on the Alan Colmes show ... he is very Bush fan-club type you'll love him
its not force if you stay in the country by your own will , you CAN leave if you want to , but if you want to stay you are also agreeing to certain rules, but the main thing here is to remember that you are not being forced to stay where you live
go live in a cave or something, no one will "force" anything from you :)
To expect morally ambivalent career-minded people to admit (on camera) to the obvious contradictions of their political positions is perhaps optimistic.
They are too clever (and immoral).
We need more honesty and wisdom from public figures.
It's probably best that Colmes no longer does that show with Hannity. Too much stupidity in the same location might very well threaten the existence of the universe.
Just because a bunch of douchebags are going to occupy Congress on any given day regardless of whether or not I vote or how I vote, and they decide to take my money away from me and give it to another bunch of douchebags who in return will promise to keep electing them, does NOT mean that I consent to that. Hey Colmes, I did not sign that contract!!
All it takes is 50% +1 looter.
The Tyranny of the Non-Contributor. They decide how they want to spend the money that I then must make for them.
Alan Colmes contradicts himself on whether INDIVIDUAL citizens have the right to initiate physical force against other citizens. First he says they have that right, and then he denies having said that they have that right.
The question that you're asking is 'should paying taxes be obligatory?', Colmes answer is 'yes', and there is no ambiguity about that whatsoever. All the other stuff is just trying to put words into Mr Colmes' mouth and is entirely pointless.
Your next question should have been 'Why do you think it's right for the government to tax people?', then you'd have had a discussion, rather than this silly game of 'gotcha'.
The blurb at the top is fundamentally dishonest: to say that Alan Colmes 'contradicts himself', when he makes his position quite clear: he doesn't think taxes should be voluntary. Unfortunately, Hedfield feels it necessary to ask the same question over again, not to find Colmes' view, but to try and put words into his mouth-in this case the word 'forcefully'.
It's a rather pathetic game of 'gotcha', because Hedfield is more interested in crowing about his 'triumphs' in catching people out-(as he does here: "Colmes CONTRADICTS himself..!"), rather than discussing what they believe.
"We have a Contract with the Government"? Have i signed any contract with the Government? If so did i get full disclosure? If no then the contract was fraudulent? I do not consent to this Governance. Thats it no more contract. Will they leave me alone now? No. Im being forced to do something i dont want to do. Am i slave?
It's a very simply truth that Jan labors under - anybody who refuses to answer a question in a rational, non-coercive setting has something to hide. Period.
Any public official should be asked these questions. If they fail the test, and 99% of them will, off they go, back to where they came from. Anyone who desires to become a public official should be subjected to the same treatment.
Government often has incredible similarity to organized crime. How is it really all that different? And because they do a little crime that the rest of us are not allowed to do under the law but also provide services that they are supposed to do in the first place under the Constitution(common defense) are they then both legitimate?
The point that I'm making is that if we don't have legitimate representative government then who will protect our Constitution and the rights outlined for us? Just as a criminal organization should have no legitimacy because of the malice they inflict on the population, regardless of the good they do to promote themselves so to a government that doesn't do as it is mandated. Our government is mandated to protect the rights we have outlined for it in the Constitution, nothing more, nothing less.
That's silly! Read the first line of the U.S. Costitution. It says "We the People"... We the People established the Constitution, not the government. Our Constitution affords governments existence, not the other way around. The right way to look at it is that without a Constitution we have no government. As of right now we don't have a government that recognizes the will of the People, thus Constitutional government does not exist in the U.S.
I'd agree with you if politicians could somehow be forced to follow it, but lets face it, we live in a democracy. It's mob rules, the mob for the most part is poor and they want some of the minority wealth. The government gives them a way to steal from that minority and let them sleep at night.
Just so I speak from a clarified position. This is how I would answer these questions.
Does an individual have the right to initiate force under the conditions presented? No, not because I think it is wrong- but because no one has any rights.
How do individuals give a right they don't have to others? Thats the way government works. We give up what we "have" in this case "the right" to peaceful existance. So that we can let others step in on our behalf when something goes wrong.
The questions in my opinion, are loaded questions because it can only be answered in a way that is "generaly distasteful" (i dont know a better way to put it) and forces the speaker to be self contradictory- or not be able to directly answer the question as a yes or no. Being forced to put qualifiers on it so that the answer can be expressed "properly".
I belive understand the point Jan is making. But I think he is going about it the wrong way.
Where is this contract that I signed with the government? I would like to see it because I would like to renegotiate how much they can take out of my check everyweek.
We all agree to take part in this society. If you don't like it you can live out in the desert or something. It is not a literal contract you buffoon.
But its a kind of agreement right and agreements are voluntary for both sides which means that both sides can walk out and not be forced to except the other's terms. I think what you mean is not an agreement but a peace treaty the govt signs with the citizens like a peace treaty signed with a conquered nation. Accept these terms or will kick your ass some more. Thats the kind of agreement govt signs with the citizens because if we don't accpept it kicks our ass into jail.
if people would stop using the word "liberal" to mean the opposite of liberal (from the latin "liber", meaning free), YouTube comments would decrease approximately 29%.
You could ask these exact same questions to Hannity and get the EXACT same answers....showing how the "left" and "right" are essentially two sides of the same coin...with minor/insignificant differences.
What a creep. Usually, when someone can't process a question, it means they're irrevocably screwed up. I know a few people like that... who will get upset when asked very simple questions. They themselves usually don't ask questions either. For example, if they need something, they'll just state the fact that they need it and expect you to give it them. They won't actually ask for it. It's literally as if they don't know how to communicate with questions; they malfunction. It's bizarre.
Colmes is Faux Noise's token "liberal" and from this clip it is apparent why they use him; to make "liberals" look weak and stupid. No person OR gov. has the right to initiate violence or theft on anyone or place. "Preemptive war" is about as Facsist as you can get and the Neocon newspeak calls it "conservative".
What do you call taxes? Its when the govt forcibly takes your money. Or when govt regulation renders valuable land worthless because they ban using it for anything. All govt acts are eventually backed by guys with guns, or the law would be meaningless.
