I agree with McEnroe. Becker's serve was much better in the mid and late 80's than into the 90's. Think of it this way...Becker won more majors in the 80's because his serve was at its peak. When Becker was serving great, very few could beat him.
i agree with the quickness into the net. that part of his game definitely diminished, but i thought his mellowed and aged beautifully. as he got older his serve wasn't as overwhelming a weapon because more players trended toward having a big serve and more players could cope with returning a 120+mph serve.
Yea true but even in 1995-6 his serve was one of the best, and when he was on he hit a lot of aces. Anytime you hit a 120 mph + placed right its an ace. And in this video he was down on Agassi in the Wimby Semis but he roared back and overpowered Agassi or just hit precision volleys. If he missed his first serve he aced his second. Just awesome. Too bad he choked in the finals against Sampras. His first serve % is what killed him. He couldnt hold his serve in the finals.
i disagree...his service got heavier and was just as effective if not more so later in his career. in the 80s boris and tiriac were still messing with his motion and boris would have an occasional set where his serve's continuity would desert him, and cause him to lose the set.

There was nothing better in tennis to watch than the serve of Boris Becker. Pure art.

I would say that Federer and Sampras have the most effective serves, taking into account that they are not super-tall.
Among the super-ace-men are Karlovic, Ivanisevic, Phillipoussis, Krajicek.
Stich and Becker had great serves, too.

Le service de Boris tout simplement unique, beau dans le geste et le résultat.

You could say Sampras had the best serve of all time. But I liked the style of Becker , how he rocked back and forth before he served.

One of the few to land on right food after serving.

Becker had much hip-rotation. There is an excellent analysis of Roddick´s serve, he also rotates much.
But Roddick lands on the left foot.

But Boris never held service as regulary as he did early on. His serve was better when he was agile 18 yr old and no knee pains.
