I think Aaron's actually playing, but Matt's also playing bass along with him (so the music keeps going when he does things like point at Scott and hijack the intro). They did do quite a bit of overdubs, though, (what live album these days is innocent of that?), which they make frequent (hilarious) jabs at on the DVD commentary & extras.

my favorite is "why do they rock so hard" (from 1998), but this song is from "turn the radio off", which is their most ska-like album. so it just depends on your taste. "cheer up" is their poppiest album, "we're not happy til you're not happy" has some great music, but the ultra-negative lyrics can get a little annoying. their newest cd "monkeys for nothin' and the chimps for free" is pretty good, but i don't think it's their best. anyway, it's up to you. just putting my two cents in.
