Win Movie Maker makes does not support HD files. You can get the free software called "Free HD Converter" thought that will convert it so that you can use Win Movie Maker. That is what I do.
Hey, thanks for the review. I just got this camcorder and I love it, but I noticed it heats up pretty quick. It's not scalding hot but can get fairly warm pretty quickly. Is this normal, and has anyone else noticed it?
I have the SD60 also and very impressed with quallity overall but the colours appear washed out quite often when using in AI mode and was wondering if you have any tips on the best manual settings to improve this.
I am currently trying colour +4 WB-3 and sharpness +1
Hmm.., Sounds strange to me. I have never had that happen. Is your computer getting old? I got a new fast computer when I got the camera and when playing back the file before converting it, the computer will lag a bit because of the large file size.
@TheManFromAlaska , Whateva, already solved the problem, I have the video coverter and then move on to the computer but with the charger plugged into the camera and the camera running;)
I'm sorry to correct you, but it doesn't lag because the file is to big, but because it's Full HD, and more perticular, because it's a mts.file. It takes a lot of your processor (CPU), to show the video properly and let the audio play at the same time and at the same 'frame'/'bit'rate.
SOLUTION: If you don't have a pc with a good processor, you could get good results with "Media Player Classic - Home Cinema" (it uses your VGA-card as well, next to the processor).(Freeware)
No problem. Thanks for the suggestions. I have since bought a new desktop computer, so I no longer have any problems. This was originally done on a 5 year old laptop. Take care.
i bought mine in andorra because my old sd-cam broke. had no time to check tests or read reviews and were very lucky to pick this cam, very good, i'm very satisfied.
if you want to ckeck the difference between an sd-cam (panasonc nv-gs 250) and the hdc-sd 60 (or 66, as it is named in some countries) check my latest video, "pyrenäen 2010", at 0:43 i changed the cams.
Don't know. Mine does not do that. Are you zooming in on something close such as a few feet away? It will do that if you try to zoom in to far when you are to close. If you want to zoom in close turn on the "macro" mode and it will fix that. If it is happening when you are zooming in on something far away you might need to call Panasonic.
@bandofredempion Make sure the zoom setting is 25x optical or 35 x on the i setting. If you set the zoom to digital it will zoom to 1000x or more but the quality and resolution is poor. Optical zoom is always much better than digital but 25x is more than sufficient for most things.
@bandofredempion it does that because the cam is re-focusing the subject its detecting or shooting. All cams do that(including digital cameras), so don't assume the cam is messed-up. That blur you see its the time that the internal cam processor takes to readjust the lens, white balance, and of course the actual scene and subject as mention before. Pretty common downside of full-hd or simply high-def cams. All cam will have it. Later man
@elBUnitkuka Yes it has four settings. All of them are hi def eg 1080 x1920 but the bit rate is different so the files are bigger on the top setting, for example an 8gb sd card will last 3 and a half hours on low setting but only one hour on the top quality setting. Does not look much different on tv playback but takes longer to edit on your pc on the top setting.
I've just bought this camera but it appears I can only use the supplied editing software, which is pants. My Pinnacle software cannot detect the SD card, nor can Windows Movie Maker. Do you know if there is a way around this? What software are you using?
Yeah that is kind of a PITA. I just thought it was me that didn't know what I was doing. I somehow converted it into a file that Win Movie Maker could edit, but I cannot figure out how I did this. I have been trying to figure out what software to use. If you figure anything out, please let me know. Thanks
@busker59 I'm using Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD 10 platinum (got it for £60.14 from amazon) which is a great bit of software and can read the video files straight off the SDHC card. Make sure your SD reader can actually read SDHC cards otherwise windows cant see it (ie can you see the card from 'my computer'/explorer?) Also check your editor directly supports the .mts/.m2ts file format otherwise you'll have to convert first. (i think pinnacle 11+ does but not 100% sure on that)
Can you film and save the movie as .avi files? Also does it have a mic-in jack? Also does allow you the set the sensitivity of the mic-in vol? Does it allow you to set the exposure so that you get the best light setting (spot light setting, sports setting, day time setting etc...)? Thanks!
hi there , could you or anyone tell me please how much recording time i would get from a 16 gb sd card on highest quality recording setting on the panasonic sd 60 ? . thanks !
Again. This was a look at what comes in the box. NOT necessarily a review. There is a difference and I think you might be confusing the two. This was not a review it was a "unboxing" video.
@TheManFromAlaska because thet don't have a personal life outside their bedrooms, so they hide behind their computer monitors to pick on something they see on the internet. Pretty common in this industry my friend, home-video-making. Think of it, as if you were a big Hollywood star and these people without a life are paparazzi's looking for mistakes you do along the way..
Thank you so much for your videos. It helped me a lot deciding which hd camcorder I would buy, and it's definitely going to be the SD60. Thumbs up from France !
You are very welcome. I ordered it this afternoon with a 16 Gb SDHC card. I should have it next week-end when I come back. I do have some friends who could be interested, so I'll make tests and post them as soon as I can.
Can it be used while plugged in the PC so that it can record directly on the PC and recharge at the same time via USB? Can an external microphone be attached? When zooming is there that annoying grinding sound? How long does the battery last? Does it deal good with recording moving objects? How is the microphone?
Lots of good questions. I am going to short answer to your questions in order. 1. I don't know, didn't see that option in the manual. 2. No ext. mic. 3. No sound is heard when zooming. 4. Stock batery 1h 50m on HE mode. With the optional battery 3h 40m. 5. Yes it has auto tracking and will lock on and maintain focus and tracking very well. 6. So far the mic works well. Captures 5.1 Dolby.
The SD60 has a sensor twice the size as the SD10 so it takes video at twice the resolution. This is a huge benefit to me as I want to take the best video I can in this price range.
If you care about still pictures, the SD60 takes 5 mp stills vs 2.1 for the SD10.
The SD60 has a 25x optical vs 16x optical zoom. They each have a digital zoom that is more than useful. The SD60 shows 35x on the box but can be set to 1500x vs the 1000x of the SD10.
Your welcome. It seems like a very nice camcorder. The only problem is that now I need a faster computer for the very large movie files it makes. That is on the list next.
@TheManFromAlaska Thanks for putting up this vid. It sure helps in deciding which cam to get! Hope you don't mind me asking but does the lense cover open automatically when you open the screen/record?
I don't mind at all. Yes this camcorder has a automatic lens cover. You can also set this camcorder to turn on and off when you open the screen, which also opens and closes the lens cover.
