  • That castle looks like the one in northanger abbey ;D wonder if its the same one <3

  • I hate old trailers where the narrator talks way too much

  • @klauskerzel they do that in a lot of 90s movies XD

  • Charlotte is perfect.

  • @florestiler12312

the closest adaptation to the book is 1983s featuring Timothy Dalton and Zelah Clarke. The best Rochester ever!

  • These movies always start off well with the portrayal of Jane's early life, then it's all shot to hell with the rest of the film. Unlike other period dramas, Jane Eyre is simply impossible to adapt into a 100 min movie. There's just too much going on and the characters are too complex to convey in such a short time.

She's too old for the part now but I actually think Anna Paquin could've been a brilliant Jane (and not as a child :) )

  • Hurt was a ghastly Edward, but Charlotte was lovely.

  • WHAT??ANNA PAQUIN???!!

  • antichrist

  • Which one follows the book most closely?

  • I think the 1997 version from A&E is better to be honest...

  • ah, yes, this does look like a bronté

  • i'd be interested in seeing this film. it seems a bit more accurate than the other hollywood-ized versions.

  • love the story I hope they make the modern version Jane by April Linder into a movie!

  • This film was AWFUL. Terrible editing.

  • noooooooooooo my stupid self just HAD to go look up a trailer for a jane eyre movie while in the middle of reading the book and now there's parts of the book i haven't reached that i've just (sorta) witnessed. UGH why do i do this to myself :[[

  • @Sundriesandetc

exactly the same thing happened to me right now, i just finished 1/3 of the book and got to the good part, now i even know the end, how stupid of me to spoil the story :(

oh well, ill still finish the book !

and did you look up her 2 sisters books? Emily and Alice Bronte. Try Wuthering Hights, its a very difficult book but the story is amazing !!

  • @lovlyanime LOL yeah i still finished reading the book too~!

oh and no i haven't searched for their books but i'll take a look at wuthering heights (when school actually gives me some time for myself hah). thanks for the recommendation :)

  • @Sundriesandetc REMEMBER: A TRAILOR IS ALWAYS THE 30 SECOND VERSION OF THE MOVIE

  • Cant believe the young Jane is Anna Paquin aka Sookie Stackhouse in TB! She's a great actress!

  • @annetekoul i totaly agree

  • JANE EYRE HAS BEEN MY FAVOURITE NOVEL EVER SINCE I WAS LITTLE.I CAN'T EVEN REMEMBER HOW MANY TIMES I READ IT.JANE AND ROCHESTER SHARE SUCH A BIG PASSION THAT I'M AFRAID THIS VERSION IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE STORIE'S

POWERFUL ROMANCE.IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN 1983'S ADAPTATION,YOU HAVEN'T SEEN ANYTHING!THE SETTINGS MAY BE POOR TO OUR TIME BUT THE ACTING BY TIMOTHY DALTON SO VIVID AND PASSIONATE.IT'S LIKE READING THE BOOK ONCE AGAIN.I STRONGLY RECOMEND IT TO ALL THE JANE EYRE FANS!

  • i just read the book again, and I can STILL say without a doubt its the only romance i've ever gotten into. This book is a must read, and the movie is nearly as good.

  • it's an amazing romantic book

  • I really don't see the point in remaking this movie... there's been SO many versions, they are pretty much all the same. I mean, the story is there, there's not much to change.

  • Definitely my favorite version! Although it is an abridged version of the book, I believe it did justice to the Brontë's text both in mood, characters and timeframe. Charlotte Gainsbourg was a believable plain but intelligent Jane and Wiliam Hunt gave enough weight to the forceful and domineering Rochester.

  • This is the picture of Jane Eyre imo!

  • I'm afraid I find this version rather poor.

  • ANNA PAQUIN IS IN EVERYTHING

i never noticed until she got famous in trueblood. good lord.

  • She looks way too young. Like 15.

  • The BBC series is my favorite!

  • @zuzuwbx same here. i just finished watching it a few min ago, but realized this was the adaptation i was actually looking for. in this version, i think she [charlotte?] resembles more Bronte's JE but i love how Ruth Wilson potrayed her. the BBC one really gave life to the book. im looking forward to the Fassbender-Mia W. film; but the BBC adaptation will forever be my fave now.

  • i finally finished reading the book!! ugh most boring book ever, however the movie looks interesting

  • @GabbyGoku wow... I savour every moment of it. It is timeless, brilliant classic book, Go-ku.

  • I love the Jane eyre with elizabth taylor

  • I have to say, this one gets the casting right (comparatively). Rochester is old and ugly just like he was in the book. Jane is not "plain" but not very pretty either.

  • @euphoryajc i dont think he is ugly; Jane has a very "high" regards for beauty. this topic brings me back to my university days. this is a fave topic in my English Lit class. :p

  • just curious ( I never read the book) do they end up together?

my friend read it and said they don't but I feel like she's lying....

  • @BFFsCrew Yes they end up together in the book.

  • isn't that a young Anna Paquin

  • @Honeyspice71 yupp

  • @Honeyspice71 are you stupid, they say it in this video?

  • why is he so old! i imagined jane a bit older and rochester like..only..6-8 years older but this is like ..tooo old that it's kinda wrong :/ the storyline is great ofcourse but im disappointed by the casting

  • @janeyunpark95, in the book, Jane is 18 when she first goes to Thornfield and Mr. Rochester is "nearly forty." There are 20 years between the two of them.

  • i never seen the old verion of jane eyre but it looks really good, and i recenly saw the new trailer verion of the movie it's look good...but i stil looove the book XD

  • i cannot watch this movie!!! Gross!!! I have seen other versions and read the book, but in this one Jane looks like she is 14 yrs old and Rochester is not a young looking 35-40 yr old. it just looks disgusting!!

  • @rbain007 well there is a big age gap in the book... but still i agree with u that this one looks too werid... u sud watch the 2006 series

  • how come mr Rochester iis never good looking? i mean seriously i know Jane is suppposed to be plain but does Mr Rochester have to be so goddamn ugly??? i'm really pissed off about that cause most of these periodic novels usually have a handsome hero........why does the trend have to be so spoiled???

  • @tarisone Are u BLIND?! William Hurt looks darn good for his age man! He is the sexiest Rochester (apart from Stephens in teh 2006 adaptation) that they have ever choosen!!!

  • @tarisone In the book, Rochester was described as "ugly" and not a good looking man. It's just part of the story.

  • @rebeldork i know it's just that good looking men are always easy on the eyes when you are watching any type of films...............(sigh).......

  • i have always believed anna paquin to be a great child actress, she captured young jane so well!

  • why do they keep remaking this movie??

  • This was the best version the actress played her so well perfect!!

  • the trailer resumes the whole first book

  • Mr.Rochester....

I also draw my platonic love while exposing in a conference <3

    The Best Book and movie!!

  • Mr.Rochester....

I also draw my platonic love while exposing in a conference <3

  • Oh nononono that is not the Mr Rochester I had in MY mind...

  • what's the name of the music?

  • this version is great too because the chemistry between them. THIS VERSION AND THE MASTERPIECE ONE ARE THE BEST.

  • omg, is that anna paquin??? so adorable!

  • Young Anna Paquin shows so much promise as an actress... I hope after True Blood she can get out there and prove she can play better and more challenging roles.

  • best version!

  • i'm just starting to read this book and i love it so far

  • I think Anna Paquin should play Jane Eyre when she's grown up now that she's older!

  • @erinbickler Too pretty lol :P

  • @erinbickler I agree!!! She's too pretty though; 'twouldn't do 't all. :)

  • I don't like how most movies/miniseries portray Jane Eyre. They make it all about the love story when that's really almost secondary to the major theme of moral redemption. The love story is the means to that end, and so few get it right. That's why the 1980s version with Zelah Clark and Timothy Dalton is still my favorite. I didn't like the 2006 version. Besides the above complaint, I thought the characterization of Rochestor was way off.

  • @frostdiamond1 On the contrary the Mr Rochester in the 2006 version is my favourite, I can't stand Timothy Dalton. But I agree with you about the themes of Jane Eyre - the romance always seems to take the main focus in the adaptations when really it should be equal with moral redemption.

But it's funny how fans can both and agree and disagree isn't :)

  • @skulblaka92 I can see why, as, in a sense, the 2006 Rochestor is the most likable. Stevens gave him a very casual air and played up the jokester side of him. However, Rochestor's not really SUPPOSED to be likable--he's a surly, moody baby, even though we females moan over him. ;D And yet, the reader can't help but hope he'll improve. I didn't think Stevens translated his tortured state well. My main complaint is he made him too happy. He was able to escape his troubles too completely.

  • @frostdiamond1 *Stephens--grr, typos!

I do agree with your ending statement, though! :D

  • @frostdiamond1 Hmmm... I kind of see what you're saying, maybe he's more popular because we like that teasing side of him. But I don't think he's 'too happy' he shows the tortured state very well, just in a different way to the other actors. I can see how Dalton plays the tortured side more, he's almost mad - wailing with grief when Jane is leaving. But he also plays a happier side too. He wasn't very moody or snappy, and heck he smiles sooooooo much more.

  • @frostdiamond1 Sorry for two replies but Youtube doesn't leave enough space for my answer lol. All I wanted to say on the end of the other reply is that I understand that Mr Rochester isn't supposed to be likable. I didn't like him at first, he was such a moody git lol ;) But I think his fans are the people who, like Jane, can see past it all to the tortured soul inside. He needs some love bless him :D

  • Only Ruth Wilson and Toby Stephens are the right Jane and Rochester!

  • I do not like this "Jane". Yes, Jane should be plain and not pretty, but I cannot stand how little emotions or feelings she can show in her acting. Watch "Jane" by Ruth Wilson (2006).

  • I have read the book, and seen the 2006 version. This is bullshit, no feeling what so ever for this pile of hollywood dogshit, and the proposal scene....... those who have read the book knows that adult jane is calm and in control of her feelings. This version of jane is a zombie. why dont they let anna paquin play the grow up part to, she looks older. Fuck, the producers in this film produced Seinfeld.

  • Best version ever. The exact emotion I felt when reading the book.

I can't ever see the new version . It is absolutely horrible. It is mini Hollywood story YAK.

  • I love this book and I love Franco Zeffirelli's film!

CG is the best Jane ever and WH is a good Rochester too.

  • I really didn't like this version. I've tried, but I just can't because William Hurt didn't portray Mr. Rochester right...he wasn't nearly moody or dark enough! The emotions were all off!

  • Right now i am reading wuthering heights by charlottes sister and i am happy to say that by this trailer it seems that fantastic love plots run in the family :)

  • I did not remember that Anna Paquin was young Jane eyre in this movie. In fact I see this one as one of the weaker adaptations my almost top favorite book ever. Franco Zeffirelli was not in his best shape.

  • after sein this trailer I wont b watchin this version, I av jus finished watchin the 2006 adaptation and it was superb I av 2 say and I cant wait 2go out and get the book now 2 read 2 compare and c wot was left out and how it differs. I think Ruth Wilson plays a brill J E but I guess I'll only really get it when iv read the book and cant wait. Im gona watch the 80s version now I think. Im not usually 4 this kind of saga but this really moved me!

  • I really tried to like this version when I saw it. It was horrible; I can't believe this is the best they could do with a theatrical release. Charlotte Gainsbough seems not so much repressed as JE should be, but angry throughout and William Hurt seems half asleep. If you've read the book, it's completely wrong....JaneEyreFan is right; the trailer is better than the film.

  • Rochester is kind of cruel; yes he's charming but he teases Jane and locks up his mad first wife.

I liked this 1996 version actually :) It did actually look like there was a big age gap.

  • @missbabyice I agree. I think this is better than the 2006 portrayal though that version is probably the most accurate. I just think this is better than the others. It's my personal favourite.

  • the trailer is great but the film is not...

it is so confusing that the beginnng is pretty long but the second half is so short if you know what I mean...

All the St. John-scenes are wrong

  • holy crap! u mean its different from the book??!?! BAH! i have 2 read the book 4 uni but it is kinda boring :(

  • I also like BBC's version better!

  • The stupid American narrater in this trailer kind of ruins what looks like a fairly good adaptation of the novel. But i like the BBC one the best.

  • There are two BBC versions, is that right? I just know the 2006 version and I think it is a really good one.

  • There is an old 1983 version with Timothy Dalton, and oh my goodness, it is good!! The only thing is, it is extremely long and very dramatic, so if you're not into that, you might not care for it. But personally, I would say it's worth it!

  • o all right i didn't know that was BBC too. I saw this version one time, because I heard it was the best one, but I didn't like it at all. It was too - well, I don't know, It didn't seem real. No one in the 19 century would have talked like that, even if it like that in the book.

For comparing I buyed the 2006 version and I think this is the best of all. But that's a taste thing.

  • okay thanks!

  • what is the rating on this? is it a clean movie?

  • Yes It's most likely PG.

  • if i recall it's cleaner than the more recent BBC version. it's as clean as Jane Eyre can be- i mean, there is a lot of innuendo in the book.

  • ok i'm sorry to say this but this mr. rochester is terrible, wouldn't touch him with a stick

  • I agree, its a superb love story, and one of the most romantic books I've ever read :)

  • I think that this Jane seems too young .. Next to Mr. Rochester.

I know that Jane was young, but when I see these two kissing.. Seems like she's only a kid ...

I love the 2006 version more...

  • I think the 2006 doesnt match the book much, Jane doesnt seem like a plain tiny girl, and Mr.R is not that handsome lolz :P, just my opinion though.

  • Yeah ~~!!!

    Im AgrEe with YOu 1~!!

  • @ lonelyleaf, lol, I do not understand why the people who have watched it are drooling over the Mr. Rochester in that version. I think that this Mr. Rochester fits the character better.

  • She's supposed to be 18, small, and childlike. The other "Janes" seemed too tall for the role.

  • @SportHorse10: I agree! But Charlotte's perfect as Jane!

  • @Liisamyts Well thats the idea, Rochester was 20 years older than Jane after all!! Honestly this is my favorite but only because CG gives the aspect absolutley, I cant stand at the 2006 version cuz Ruth looks not like Charlotte, she and Toby are too handsome for the role, but better actors...OMG If only we could fus the 3 versions...

  • THAT looks like a Jane! :D

But THAT does not look like a Mr. Rochester. :\

  • i love this movie so so much

  • I'm reading this book right now! It's so awesome so far. ^^

  • It seems like these commenters didn't even read the book so they wouldn't understand the complexity of the film.

  • wat in the world did i just watch srry but everything was way too fast and i still have no clue wat the movies about

  • OMG gross.. sorry but this Jane eyre looks like 12...

  • ahhh sookie in fast motion!

  • this rochester seems i dunno, boring. and old. the newest version...such unique characters!!! i like the other one better..sorry.

  • Is this trailer meant to be so fast? Either way, I didn't like it like that.

  • I love jane eyre but its so sad at times. Have you heard of her unfinished work. Its a bit like J.E. look up emma brown

  • LMMFAO! OMG THAT WAS HILARIOUS!!!

  • melinat2 that is the most brilliant and hilarious post ever. i loved jane eyre but i had a good laugh at work while reading this, uugh way to go. cheers.

  • piękny film; polecam!

  • i love this movie, and book!!!!! :)

  • one of my favourite films and stories ...

  • does the voice over really suit this trailer? 0.o

Why do movie trailers insist on a deep voice? lol It just seems out of place.

  • i am reading this book right now. its just starting to get interesting when she is talkin to mr. rochester. is the book any good?

  • The book "Jane Eyre" is superb!!! You'll love it - Charlotte Bronte was a writer ahead of her time to be sure. This book is probably my favourite of the classics.

    Enjoy!

  • It is perfect as you must have found out by yourself. Since your question was put a week ago and most readers read that book in 1 or 2 days you must have finished it. Share your opinions then!

  • I just started reading it too. My eighth grade English teacher always told me to read it. She said it was so romantic. I love it.

  • This version is great :)

    But I can't help it , I just like 2006 version better

I dont know why , maybe toby stephens was more hansome and whole movie was actually better , but yay , this one's not bad either :D

  • I prefere 2006's version...mr.rochester (toby stephens)is perfect...

  • Just seen the mini series from 2006, really enjoyed it. I HAVE to read the book!

  • Yes you HAVE! It is so much better than all the adaptations together.

  • the little Jane was perfect, had the perfect look & all

  • Yes Anna Paquin is the best young Jane Eyre I have seen. So passionate and determined. This is probably the best element of this adaptation. Hurt is miles away from Charlotte Bronte's dark passionate Rochester. Gainsbourg is too shadowy too.

  • this is my favorite book and this looks perfect.. cast is right and all.

  • Mr rochester is not supposed to be goodlooking

  • HE'S UGLY!!!! I couldn't watch that movie even if I wanted to!!!

    *shudder*

  • omg lol thats prob the reason I actually watch this movie! He's gorgeous!

  • Have you read the book? he's not supposed to be attractive... but it is a SUPER romantic book.

  • so true. even though he's not handsome; he's so charismatic .

  • Yes just like in the book.He is not handsome, bur he is very charming and has a soft and loving side to him.

  • we are studying this movie in english lessons

  • go to tudou and you can see the whole movie

  • Can you please tell us the whole website since i didn't hear about tudou before?

  • Hello! You can go to ''Watch movies online'' (google it, cause youtube don't allow me to post the link) and search for Jane Eyre. You can choose in which host you wanna watch it, and tudou is one of them.

There's also a bunch of others movies there of all genres!

  • thanks so much cindyaniston :)

  • isn't tudou this chinese webstie? XD

  • @strwbricake yup :) means "potato"...it's just like youtube in some respects

  • its just tudou . com... its all in chinese, but a large amount of their videos are in english, and they have a lot of full movies, just put what you want in the search box (most have chinese subtitles though, lol)

  • this book is really cool i haven't seen the movie though :(

  • they can have all the academy winners in the world in this adaptation it still doesn't compare to some of the others!

  • we differ in that. I think is a really good film. Great music, cinematography, and flow.

  • I agree. this is the least impactful version that I've seen

  • Love this book/movie. Mr. Rochester is second only to Mr. Darcy.

  • maravilhoso filme história e atores impecáveis amei....cada cena

  • for so sorry kelloggstiger i do'nt have the whole movie i wish to have it all my self too =D

  • is there anyway you could put the whole movie online? That would be great
