This was the background tune for the scene from the brilliant 1979 satire 'J-Men Forever', where Admiral Balzy conducts a demonstration of the 'dangerous effects of this degenerate music' for members of the Federal Culture Control.
studios in pekin, illinois than irv zuckerman and steven shankman, contemporary productions, remember "produced by contemporary" also started riverport amphitheater in 1991 managed them, rip dan birney
i was misunderstood sorry my friend remembered an interview of head east,i dunno if it was kshe or not, they were asked "how did you guys come up with your name?" they replied "we are from saint louis and where do you go at 1:30 am ... you head east!" to illinois where now pops and oz are but i moved from saint louis and i heard pops burnt down or something and yes head east were from peoria, illinois, flat as a pancake was recorded on pyrimad records in 1974 in pekin, illinois at golden voice
Mike Sommerville,John Schlitt,Roger Boyd,Steven Houston and the late Dan Birney were head east, they had a house in Dellwood they partied in on Chambers and W.Florisaant and got thier name in St.Louis what do we all do at 1:30 am we head east to Pops or the Oz in Sauget
i've been to the house on chambers, met with punky meadows, greg g. (Angel) gary r. kevin c. (REO) there, 1977 great times, I didnt know Pops or the Oz was around in 1968 when the band formed and also it formed in Champain IL. none of the band was from st louis, all from south central IL
Kiel auditorium and the arena Aka the checkerdome were the in concert venues prior to Riverport or verizon wireless amphitheater fact Contemporary production owners and former owners of Riverport Irv Zuckermann and Steven Shankmann at the time of Flat as a pancake managed Head east
Depends where you are from weather or not these songs got airplay in Head East's hometown same as my hometown SAINT LOUIS BABY,we have an AOR station called KSHE 95 that has been on the air since 1967 and KSHE atleast back in the day played a lot of Head east
These guys were the first rock concert I'd ever attended - back in 1976 at Lake Superior State College in Sault Ste. Marie. I was 13. The warm-up band was Cheap Trick:)
"Head East Live!" is equal to any of the great live albums of the 1970s. Outrageously, it has never been released on compact disk in its original form, let alone fully remastered, as it surely deserves.
I saw Head East on the "A Different Kind Of Crazy" tour, I believe John Schlitt's last with the band. Fantastic.
Always loved "The Man I Wanna Be", it speaks to the Taoist that was always in me.
I think I read something about that. I looked on the website of my hometown newspaper in the obituary section and didn't find anything. MIke played lead guitar in my brothers band, The Sydewynders and later changed their name to the North Bridge Company. mike used to come over to my parents alot to see my brother when I was about 8 years old. He was very nice and polite and also very quiet and shy. Boy, could he play that guitar.
such a shame this awesome band never found the commercial success it deserved. I feel like they're one of the great should-have-beens in the history of Rock.
Hey...saw these guys...I am mean the original lineup at there very last show..which was at the University of Kearney in Kearney, NE back in 1979!!! wow!! I want some live footage!!
As far as I know there is not. However, a YouTube member named HeadEastRocks told me that there may be someone who has some old footage from one of their live gigs who may be releasing it in the future. If I ever get a chance to post any of it I will.
@HeadEastMusic - There's a guy in Tampa named Henry "Dixie" Howard at dixieh@knology.net and he's a sound engineer that I've got quite a bit of Head East from. You might give it a try -
@thomboy54 U know John went onto singing for Petra after the band head east fired him. And now John does missions as well as performs live with his solo projects. Yes he became a christian.
