  • I found that Dminor and A harmonic minor work real well over this. The A harmonic minor double stops sound polish.

  • I RIPPED THE LIVING FUCK OUT OF THIS TRACK!

  • wow this backing track is AWESOME! ... sad its too short :(

  • Is a crime to rape the replay button?

  • /watch?v=b7SidT6B2-o&feature=channel_video_title

  • Great backing track, could jam to it all day! check out my version if you got time, many thanks creamermusic

  • This is one of the raddest backing tracks ever, check out my jam to it guys

  • best backing track ever period

  • Am, not C because A is the tonal centre. :)

  • @Angryification Am is the minor parallel to C, so C is fine too :)

  • @Mindcrawler23 No it's not. Not only is A the tonal centre and the powerchords are in that key, the powerchord progression resolves to A5. :P

  • @Angryification I am not an expert and still in the beginning of music theory, so you mean the title is wrong and A / F#m would be right? I kept playing Am/C pentatonic and C ionic scale and couldn't hear anything wrong.

  • @Mindcrawler23 The powerchords fit Am, so it is not A major or F#m. Also, the powerchord progression resolves to A5. These two factors make the piece in Am. If you played lead in C major pentatonic, the piece would still be Am. The chord progression underneath will tell you the key, not the melody or solo above it. :P

  • @Angryification Ok, i think i got it ;D

  • @Angryification you can see lots of the logic, but remember there are 7 modes you can play in per key to be "in key" - each mode is just the scale of the key starting from a different note. So you have lots of scales to work with. C major works, A minor works, plus 5 others, but they all have the same notes just in a different order

  • @superdog797 The modes may work over this powerchord progression, but the lead/melody does not determine the key. The chords, or in this case they are powerchords, will tell you the key. Also, if one piece is in Am [for example], it does not mean it is also in B Locrian [for example] since the note A will be the tonal centre and the chords will tell you the that the key is Am because the chords will fit the key and probably want to resolve to Am too. Tonality is not the same as modality. :P

  • @Angryification You are correct. You actually seem to know a bit about music already...I actually meant to respond to the guy who was asking questions but instead pointed it to you! power to the turtles

  • @superdog797 Oh OK. XD

  • o my SATAN!!!!!! I love it!!!!!

  • This is seriously best track I ever fucking heard!!!!!

  • SWEET JESUS that was fun.

    :D :D :D :D

  • i"m pretty new to guitar and just learning scales. This may be a silly question, but can you play a C Major scale over this?

  • @Jordie0405

Yes, C major and A minor are the same scale but starting from different points. Read up on modes and it should make sense

  • @WilsonAlmighty Thankyou so much. I've been trying to learn but it is very hard what with Pentatonics, Minors, Majors, Blues scales. I'm getting a little confused if I'm honest.

  • @Jordie0405

Well I teach as a hobby. If you want you could always pm any q's you have about theory :)

  • @WilsonAlmighty E harmonic minor sounds good on this. why?

  • Comment removed

  • @Milesbakerforguitar

over the F5, it pretty much doesn't fit. It would create a dissonant sound. However, including the F root note the scale would be; R, min2, maj2, maj3, #4, 5, min7, maj7. This is completely unlike any scale I've seen but in my head it does sound kinda badass

Over the E5 it would be an E Harmonic minor sound.

Does that make sense or am I just talking nonsense?

  • @WilsonAlmighty Dude, your acting like a smart ass. -.- Just jamm out and if your good enough, you can find the key to play it right. (:

  • @CarlosKoolKid102109

The guy asked me a question and I answered it in full. What was I supposed to say? It works by magic mate? I'm sorry that you think answering someone's question properly makes that person sound like a smart ass. I guess you're teachers at school are smart asses too right?

I teach guitar, I know what I'm doing...

  • @WilsonAlmighty The E harmonic minor sounds good over the the V-I because the cadence on the natural minor ( v - i is weak sounding, the most common way to make it stronger is to sharpen the 7th where you get the natural minor, making the V chord Major and the V-i stronger, since this backing track consists of only 5 chords it doens't really matter, you culldd use natural minor, harmonic, melodic, minor pentatonic, blues scales, arpeggios, all kinds of shit,

  • @Dazzerx

That's all correct apart from one thing. The scale he is talking about is E harmonic minor and the chords are A natural minor.

This is the equivalent of substituting a phrygian mode for the harmonic minor and sticking to the phrygian chords, the movement considered from E is i-iv and the E is actually still minor, not major

  • @WilsonAlmighty **sharpen the 7th to get the harmonic minor I meant to say.

  • @WilsonAlmighty well fuck u den "mayte"

  • @CarlosKoolKid102109

Hahaha, yeah, that totally doesn't make you sound immature at all "mayte"

Learn to admit when you're wrong pal.

  • @WilsonAlmighty im not ur pal homo

  • @CarlosKoolKid102109

"and I'm not your buddy, guy!" said with a South Park Canadian voice

Seriously, "homo"? Yup, not immature at all... (õ_ó)

All this because I tried to teach someone something.

    I guess it's because you're...

too "kool" for skool? huh \\m// (>.<) \\m//

  • @WilsonAlmighty i never called u buddy idiot -__-

i wouldnt wanna b ur buddy kus seriously dude i dnt consider myself to kool for skool dumbass

  • @CarlosKoolKid102109

    Christ, you're a bit slow.

    1.) Read; "South Park"

2.) Kool is in your name.

Seriously, stay in school. It'll be good for yeh.

  • @WilsonAlmighty 1)I READ THE SOUTH PARK PART BUH IDK WHY U SAID IT KUS I NEVR CALLED U BUDDY..

    2) DOESNT MEAN IM TO COOL FOR SKOOL STUPID

  • @CarlosKoolKid102109

Holy crap, come on man. The lights are on , surely somebody must be home!

    1.) South park had an episode where Terence and Philip were arguing;

    "I'm not your pal, buddy!"

    "I'm not you buddy, guy!"

"I'm not your guy, friend!" ad infinitum.

    Basically your childish remark.

2.) This argument started because you thought me answering a question directed specifically at me was acting like a smartass. Basically me teachin...

fuck it you're a hopeless case, an absolute idiot...

  • @WilsonAlmighty fuck you asshole i dnt even coment on dis shit my brother did fuken asshole.. ive jst been answering fucking stupidass

  • @CarlosKoolKid102109

Then apologise for your own damn fuck-up instead of swearing at a guy who, at least until recently, was perfectly reasonable towards you.

Ergo you're still a bloody fool and an arrogant one at that

  • @WilsonAlmighty

lol my ass am apoligizing to u

  • @CarlosKoolKid102109

    read; "arrogant" also "fool"

earlier, I said you should learn from your mistakes.

You have been merely insulting and childish when you are the one who messed up.

    Really, grow up.

  • @WilsonAlmighty idgaf hahaha

  • This sounds really nice when played with A aeolian , C Ionian, D Dorian, E phyrigian, F Lydian, G mixolydian, B locrian

  • this sounds so awesome when improvising using th A harmonic minor scale!! and sounds great with sweeping but im gonna look for something heavier for that haha

  • D dorian works well too

  • I've got the solution for everyone complaining about how short the video is.

    change the url like so:

in stead of /watchj?v= make it say /v/ and at the end put &loop=1&autoplay=1

  • Thanks for all of the backing tacks uhh I just had an epic solo :D That tracks are lots of fun :d

  • Thanks for the backing track. :)

    Chords are A5, G5, F5, E5 and then A5, F5, G5, E5.

To keep things simple-ish, the A harmonic minor works well over most of it. The E phrygian dominant mode works well over the E5 chords, too, for a fun variation.

    A harmonic minor: A B C D E F G#

    E phrygian dominant: E F G# A B C D

  • @RiffTheory A harmonic minor only works over the E chord like you said (E phrygain). it doent work over the rest of the progression because of the G chord A harmonic has a G# note like you said in your comment.

  • @spector1991

The G# works over the A5 chord as well as the E5 chord, but yeah, it's not so great over the other two chords. But, really, you can play almost anything over anything, depending on your target tones and phrasing.

  • my guitar was severely out of tune after this.

  • Fastest 2:31 mins of my life..

..but fortunately it can be replayed :)

  • its amazing but it should be 1 hour long -.-"

  • i cant feel my fingers.

  • this is a lot of fun to jam too! thanks for the upload!

  • very good backing track!!

  • I used your backing track in one of my videos.

  • this track is just awesome!

    i played it over 100 times :O

    LOVE IT! :)

  • this thing is way to short...

  • sweet

  • Thumbs up if you heard babe im gonna leave you in it

  • aaaawesome on C major :) thanks

  • check out my track :)

  • Are the chords played A, G, F, and E in this descending order all power chords or quint intervals? (quint = 5 whole tone intervals)?

  • @LucaTurilli89 yes, (A G F E) however there is a slight change at around 30 seconds in and then it goes back to (A G F E) around 1 min in to the song .. I haven't figured out the second riff yet but its the same key sooo should be too hard

  • @midgety1 it sounds to me like A F E F power chords ;). Just at around 0:30.

  • @LucaTurilli89 A F G E

  • @midgety1 It starts with A G F E 'till 0.30 .... then A F G E then back to first fiff ... just sound like that for me :)

  • A harmonic minor sounds great over this when played right :)

  • yeah this song is good just needs to be a little longer

  • Awesome jam track man

  • Creamer you make me cream I love your backing tracks I'm about to post a response.

  • its funny when people say all the modes they love, because theyre all relative to Cmajor. D dorian, E phygrian, F Lydian, G Mixolydian A aeolian. ALL THE SAME AS C MAJOR just starting on different roots, and doesnt make that much of a difference.

  • @BarmizzIe It actually does if you draw attention to that note of the scale (e.g. if you draw attention to a d its dorian) It makes quite a large impact on the over all sound. Though your right it is just the same scale starting on different degrees of the scale if you use the scale drawing attention to different degrees it drastically changes the feel and sound of what your doing.

  • Dude i put another guitar,i was singing and i thought that i made a song lol,Its awsome.Good Job

  • DAMN its fucking amazing! I'm only playing C Major scale and i feel like im rocking!

    Thx for posting that

  • Hi , i posted my video response with my improvisation. I hope you like it. Regards from Spain.

  • Thanks :)

  • i love how everyone argues over what scales sound good, just fucking jam dude

  • @MeatballSceptre Thats why you learn ALL the scales in that key, and use ALL of them! :D

  • @MeatballSceptre you need the scales to jam dude.

  • @MeatballSceptre exactly, cus the different modes are just the same notes, just different shapes :)

  • Fckin love it :D Gj man

  • This is how modes work. Let's take Cmaj (which is what this BT is based off of).

We will call Cmaj the parent scale. But when talking about modal stuff, the Maj. scale is called Ionian.

Ionian, to D Dorian, to E Phrygian, to F Lydian, to G Mixolydian, to A Aeolian (A Natural Minor, Am), and last but not least B Locrian (B Locrian is just Cmaj with a B being played next to the root note of C on the 6th string).
