  • this was the first piece of theirs I ever heard, many years ago. Still sounds great.

  • I still fucking kick myself for not seeing these guys in April. <3 one of the few pieces of music to make me tear up

  • my GOD, this is GLORIOUS!! absolutely fucking GLORIOUS!!

  • Just saw these guys live. Their setlist included east hastings, storm, static, 09-15-00, and Rockets Fall on Rocket Falls.

It was chilling. They also replace the ending of Storm (the piano part) with a violin part.

  • what year is this?

  • hehey! moi je viens d'les voir a toulouse au bikini!

ils se sont reformé pour une tournée mais ils étaient que 8 sur scène!

    n'empèche que c'était du lourd!

    a voir!!!!!

  • I saw them live tonight in Amsterdam and they were as if an angel ejaculated in your ear! Absolutely stunning!!!

  • @Donkeyboy020 SO JEALOUS. What was their set list?

  • @TheSaxon48 They played most, if not all from 'skinny fists', and some stuff from 'Yanqui U.X.O.'.

  • WOW. JUST FUCKING WOW. looks like the most BORING concert ever. EVER.

  • @SkeetarMetal You should open your mind to new idea's.

It's called evolution, and there a lot of us in this world trying to progress as a race a vibrational force.

Trying to Expand our minds, and learn new perspectives. It's people like you that make the rest of the world impatient for making all of us pay a higher psychic price than we can all imagine. Please, we're waiting for you..

It's time to stop rubbing two sticks together in hopes of fire.

Get Human or give me back the air you're wasting

  • @TheCameraCop get over it you whiny pussy. seriously, arguing on the internet is like watching porn, even if you finish first you're still some fat loser watching a video on the computer with his pants off covered in semen.

  • @SkeetarMetal haha

yet here you are, seemingly upset over this.

Unfortunately for you, there's no argument here.

You can take your shitty analogies elsewhere cause I'm currently enjoying music you couldn't

    pray to understand.

Thank you for humoring me though.

  • It's a privilege to see this video. Thank you.

  • I'll be watching this live in 4 days! I'm ridiculously excited.

  • Lovely to see a respectful audience for once!

  • Notice: no one dislikes this video.

  • What are the soundbites at the start from?

  • Febuary 17th Showbox at the Market Seattle WA

  • My frigging god. Yesterday evening my friend calls me in panic, yelling that GY!BE are touring and that the tickets for their finland's gig will be released tomorrow morning. My heart almost stopped, and naturally, the next morning I went to buy the tickets.

The day that I thought would never come, is coming. I'll see them live. fuckshitfuckhell im psyched

  • Ahh man, the weed I smoked at those shows! First time I saw them was also the first time I heard them, I was tripping hard. They were opening for Sonic Youth at the Metropolis in Montreal and stole the show.

  • @mogwai142 smoke on brother!smoke on!

  • Flight <3

  • Playing again soon. Apparently if you pay a band a million dollars they will do anything you want.

  • @StopTouchingMyFood if you think theyre getting paid much more than gas money still youre pretty naive of the music industry. Theyve survived, thats about it. And as an artist, thats called success.

  • @tengobotas

LOLLLLLLLLLLLL They're playing & curating the next All Tomorrow's Parties for $800,000.

  • @StopTouchingMyFood good they deserve it because they never made squat most of the time they were together. Id also like you to site your source because youre probably full of shit too.

  • @StopTouchingMyFood PS they used to get art grants from the Canadian government which is how theyd drag their whole group on tour

  • They sound absolutely amazing here, such a great song

  • circle jerk . . . with no uh bread, or uh . . dicks

  • Really curious about the tourdates for Europe!

  • no horns :(

  • Other people have what they need;

    I alone possess nothing.

    I alone drift about,

    like someone without a home.

I am like an idiot, my mind is so empty.

    Lao-tzu

  • OMG. They're back, and I got tickets to their show in England by the end of this year! i can happily die in december.

  • they just announced new tour dates!!

  • they're back people, THEY'RE BACK!!!! WHAT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR. and MOYA is with them!!! GOD BLESS YOU ALL and plz be well!!!

  • I bet all their shows would have been so intimate. :'')

  • godspeed forever

  • when is this from, i feel like i was there o_O

  • Why did they have to break up?!

  • Got into them on "..skinny fists.." and never got to see them...son of 18 bitches!

  • @socksandpistols

    Son of 18 bitches XD

    I like that.

  • They are truly one of the greatest bands of all time.

the gods listen to them and envy.

  • i agree with "flowerchildandan." eits is definately good, but godspeed is fucking magical. legends.

  • When was this performance?

I know they haven't broken up but I don't think they are still touring...

  • The band is on permanent hiatus. In other words we will never hear godspeed again, at the very least with the classic line-up.

The band as a matter of fact formed a number of different (vastly inferior, unfortunately) bands. Look up "Fly Pan Am", "A Silver Mt. Zion", "Set Fire to Flames".

I'd recommend A Silver Mt. Zion if you're looking for something goodspeed-like.

  • Yeah SMZ are really the only thing to come of GYBE that in some part rival the original.

As far as Im concerned, for what they accomplished in 3 albums, Godspeed is the greatest Post-rock band.

  • ehhh dude, i wouldn't say greatest, cuz EITS is up there.

  • Well, for me at least, explosions doesn't come close to Godspeed emotionally.

That and, they have kind of sold-out.

Explosions is good but for their redundancy, I can't say they are one of the best. They are amazing live though.

  • How did they sell out? By selling their music to commercials? Selling out would be if they watered down their music to sell more records to a mainstream audience. That's not the case. Do you consider them sell outs for doing the musical score to Friday Night Lights ( a commercial film) even though they created YOUR HAND IN MINE? And with the Birth and Death of a Day, how can you say they're not one of the greatest bands, EVER?

  • Woah man chill.

They did more to FNL than Your hand in mine.

I'm heavy into post-rock. Explosions, emotionally, and experimentally just doesn't come close to Silver Mt. Zion, or Godspeed, or Mogwai.

I'd say they are in the top 10 best post-rock bands (I'm a huge fan of Explosion's early stuff).

For me, the reason Godspeed hits me more is because of their experiments with noise. I have been getting into noise music recently and Godspeed falls right in there.

  • "They did more to FNL than your hand in mine" EXACTLY... So, you haven't answered the question yet, how exactly did they sell out? And, Birth and Death of the Day is one of the most epic songs, and it's on their newest album.

  • Well, from listening to lots of their stuff, it seems that they try to replicate the same sound.

Guitar riff, guitar riff, marching drum, crescendo, repeat.

  • And, just because it is epic, doesn't make it a masterpiece.

Post-rock is riddled with minimalism for a reason.

  • That's the 4th time you avoided my question. How have they sold out?

  • @Pr0x1mo

No.... I answered it. The whole replicating their own sound thing.

    Not trying anything new.

That's selling out their fans and the music.

  • Then explain The Birth And Death Of Day, So Long Lonesome, which is up there with their best work AND its on their newest album.... Wait, have you even heard their new album, or did you jump to the premature certainty that they were sell outs and you didn't even bother?

  • @Pr0x1mo

    Actually, I have their discography.

You are really getting more offended than you should.

  • Who's getting offended except you by avoiding the question?

  • @Pr0x1mo

    ....what?

I answered your question like two or three times. But you know, whatever.

But to answer your question... When you become defensive and start accusing me of 'jumping to premature certainty', it is you that appears offended.

  • sigur ros. probably a tie imo

  • Yeah...... I LOVE Sigur Ros but I dunno how much they fit under the Post-Rock label nowadays.

  • @FlowerChildanddan word on the street is the album they're working on now is gonna be more like their earlier stuff

  • @barimaphone Actually, from their site, I read that Jonsi recently said that they are going to scrap the recent, more ambient songs they have been working on and start anew. I dunno if that means they are doing more 'Takk...' (my fav album of theirs) sounding music or going back to the original. Im sure it will be fantastic though.

I haven't gotten a chance to hear the new SMZ album. Do you know if its any good?

  • Nice to meet a fellow post rock lover on here.

Regarding your discussion with the defensive Explosions fan. Both bands are brilliant, but different.

Explosions in the Sky is like your childhood. A bunch of simple but surprisingly potent collection of pleasant memories that you wish you could grab back.

Godspeed is like living the life of a schizophrenic who begs on a poor urban block. A complex man with an often dark past but beneath his monstrous side is a redeemed man waiting to get out.

  • Well, that was gorgeous.

  • @BloggerMusicMan

couldn't have said it better myself.

  • @BloggerMusicMan

damn ... sounds like me ... probably the reason i was attracted to this band. You're right on by the way.

  • @BloggerMusicMan I love your descriptions of each band. It's almost too perfect. I personally don't like Explosions too much. They just don't do anything for me. But bands like Silver Mt. Zion, Godspeed, Esmerine, Fifths of Seven are amazing and they make me feel so deeply.

  • @wambo333 they just confirmed VIA myspace that they are reuniting and touring this winter :)

  • @MantraTherapy I happily stand corrected :)

  • @MantraTherapy I have my tix for the Dublin concert. Suddenly my life has a sense!!!

  • @nicorigo see you there lol

  • @MantraTherapy

the greatest news ever thank you good sir

  • @MantraTherapy just got tickets to see them in San Francisco on feb. 20th!!!!!!! Oh my God I am so fucking happy.

  • @MantraTherapy I´ve seen that too, and I just ordered my ticket to see them in vienna, austria in january 2011:)

  • @MantraTherapy they just confirmed they are making a new album!!!! :D another reason to live!!

  • @wambo333 they're getting back together.

  • @wambo333 US tour

  • @wambo333 right you are about recommendation of 'A silver Mount Zion'. That and 'Do make Say think'.

But of course, Godspeed stays the best for me, and I'm almost certain for you too. :)

  • @FlowerChildanddan oh yes, they are :)

  • I saw them last night in the Apolo, in Barcelona!!! It was gigantic, postapocaliptical!!!!!!

  • I saw them last night in the Apolo, in Barcelona!!! It was gigantic, postapocaliptical!!!!!!

  • no.

  • Dis is jus wonderful...it makes u drift in a world that makes sense....your world

  • terrific live, thank you, wambo333.

  • thanks for sharing. there is no live vid for the song "sleep", anyway? just curious. becuase sleep is my most favorite from GYBE.

  • this is best part of the song... when music make all the people feel alive it's amazing... this is fucking BRILLIANT! ...

    Thnx man...

and its shame other people compares this music with other one... its like i compa GY!BE with a Death Metal band... so don't compare GY!BE with tMV... please...

By the way this is pretty nice...

  • Do you assume that every Death Metal band is shit just because you're a clueless illiterate fuck?

  • Nobody said death metal bands are shit.

But it's true that this has more complexity, more emotional sound. This makes me feel something.

  • I've removed all the comments of people arguing about the mars volta and calling each other homosexuals. People have different tastes in music, get over it.

  • @wambo333 I'm curious about that, but somewhat glad I didn't see it..

  • I think this has to go up there with the greatest pieces of musicever written

    joyus

  • this is the only MUSIC I know. it is music in its best/highest form.

  • one of the best moment in the history of music

  • Doesn't this beautiful music make you feel alive?, I mean, come on! It's like fighting for something stupid while you have God in front of you guys... When I listen to this, I feel like everything is ok and life makes sense for a minute, just ENJOY!!!

  • @ofeliabanana I FOUND YOU! GET READY TO FEEL ALIVE MY LOVE!

  • Magnificent.

  • oooh I love this band and Silver Mt. Zion so much, I burned to CD all their mp3s on Live Archives and buy all their commercial CDs too. CONGRATULATIONS: today this video was selected by the NYC Punk Rock Evolution Foundation.

  • I want to see them live sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo BAD! I wishthey would get back together again and play a live show local to me.

  • holy fuck

  • i'm pumped to hear this live

this is a good song for improvising too

to just play it and then make up your own part

everytime i like to sing extra notes along with it

  • A little resistance always maybe; stubborn tiny lights vs. clustering darkness forever. <3

  • will we ever see them live again? doubtful but i do hope so i was only 13 last time they came to uk and at that age this doesnt make sense thats for sure

  • Have you ever actually heard them on record? Same exact piece of music but I reckon you'll change your tune.

  • I guess I should re-think my plan to hear this and Brian Eno's "An Ending (Ascent)" on my deathbed. I would want to meet my maker with a soundcheck in the background.

  • Some people decide that they know so much about music that they stop knowing anything about music.

  • that's so true that you don't even understand how true it is. the music for those kinds of people doesn't even play a role. in fact, i sometimes wonder if they have amusia.

  • Even though its just a recording it sounds like the cd is playing

  • I wish they had the horns with them. That's one of my favorite things about storm, the opening with the trumpets. I love listening the GYBE!, and I would give my left arm to see them live, but watching a recording of a live performance kind of defeats the purpose in my opinion.

  • Lyke a masterpiece!!

    Epic!!

The best of GSYBE in my opinion.

    ^^

  • They are so amazing... there music is so unique

    its just amazing

  • at around 7:25 i exploded in my pants

  • watching this video made me explode in my pants for 9:12

  • Awesome

  • Perfect and amazing...

    Best band ever!
