  • Dear God, and some idiot let him box in this condition? How many fights had he had before he faced Chavez? Or at least, how many ass-whoopings had he taken? Must have been a few.

  • WHO NECKS, WHO NECKS?????

  • shit hes got head injuries listen to him speak

  • @judopathoftruth Yeah, he deinitely was mumbling a lot and seemed to have a hard time coming up with words. I wonder about boxing and stuff like this. If I was a fight doctor and saw this interview.......there is no way I would have cleared him to fight. As a layperson I say to myself "Man, that guy sounds like he has brain damage"............and a doctor couldn't pick up on this>>>>>>>>WOW.

  • @judopathoftruth You see it......I see it......what about the insane doctor who cleared him to fight Julio???

  • Definitely brain damaged in this interview. M Bowen (neuropsychologist)

  • @drmbowen i agree

  • @drmbowen Wow, I just wonder how Meldrick got licensed to fight given his apparent brain damage shown in this video. What.....the doctor could not pick up on it??? LOL, as a layperson it is pretty obvious to me that his CNS is not functioning correctly.

  • punchy but i wouldnt say brain damaged

  • @916bigAl Uh....what do you think causes fighters to be punchy......LOL, damage to the Central Nervous System.

  • You can tell that he was starting to develop speech problem...

  • Comment removed

  • jfhfhf

  • He said his plan was to stand right in front of Chavez. He did that until the end.

  • WHAT AN ASS WHOOPING TAYLOR TOOK FROM CHAVEZ

  • His speech is reminiscent of Ali's in the 70s. The damage had definitely been done.

  • @Writeowl Yeah....and this is Before he takes a horrible ass kicking from Chavez.

  • @tickyul Frightening. What's the odds he ends up the same as Ali?

  • @Writeowl Well, have you seen the "Night Of The Champions" video??? In it Meldrick is a LOT worse than he is in this video. Stuttering, palsied, demented and truly looking like his damage is severe and permanent. Check out the Video on YT and tell me what you think. Taylor had his last fight in 2002.....the damage usually peaks around 10-15 years after the fighters last fight. Hope he does ok....heard he is broke.

  • @tickyul Is that the Legendary Nights video? He literally couldn't string two coherent words together. I saw that one and that was basically a superb cautionary tale for any kid who thinks they can't get hurt in boxing. Sooner or later you'll come up against someone who'll clean your clock permanently.

Sad to think that he was only in his thirties then and his life was basically over.

If there's another vid could you please post the link? I'd like to see it.

    Cheers!

  • Goo wait meldeick's brain was already. Hurt

  • @TzzX78 Uh.....yah think so.....pretty obvious to you and me......what about the idiot who did the pre-fight physical.

  • @1Pueblito TRANSLATE, YOU DIRTY LITTLE WETBACK!

  • @canibusnj he is probably typing that from mexico, so how is he a wet back if is in his own contry

youtube is not only in the usa

  • @cuathemochoa smart guy

  • @canibusnj I bet your not a native so i guess your a wet back to huh so shut the hell up and stop being racist if they didnt write it in your language its not for you to read

  • Frankie spanked chavez...

  • @djk28161 ya but chevez spanked hi in the rematch

  • brain damaged here, people don't talk like that unless they have a brain injury. He fought for 12 more years after this so god knows what state his brain is in now..

  • @cwehden You are brain damaged.....how did that happen if I may ask???

Yes, in my opinion Taylor should not have been allowed to fight.....based on this video alone.

  • @1800levso Sugar Ray Robinson Roberto Duran Sugar Ray Leonard Thommas Hearns Marvin Hagler Aaron Pryor Pernel Whitaker Salvadore Sanchez Julio Cesar Chavez Meldrick Taylor (pre chavez) Hector Camacho None of these fighters could logicaly have losing odds against Pacquaio or Mayweather, especialy Hearns whom I think could sleep both Mayweather and Pacquaio...but, they belong on this list as much as any legend and they continue to prove it.
  • @CheckHooKz No Roy Jones or B Hop? U dont think they belong on that list.

  • @ 00:26 jean pascal is a time traveler

  • but still I wonder if Paquiado would be match for those legend back then, I mean it seems to me that fights on that time were more heart than anything else. now on days I don't even watch any more box. you tell me if that's the case, or paquiado could handle any one.

  • @1800levso Pacquiao has a lot of heart as well as skill. He would be great in any era.

  • @1800levso He would of held his own and still would of been considered a great fighter but nothing like it is today. The state of boxing is less than a shadow of its former self its almost dead actually. There is no talent out there to even challenge him except Mayweather. I think he would of been defeated by either Chavez or Taylor or even Roberto Duran. Pacquio is solid theres no debating that but thrown into a different era and it would be a completely different story though...

  • even if he got to say I steel ok and win the fight, he would still have the brain damage, I wonder if it has the last final punch that did the damage, the important thing is not that if he lost or might had win just by saying I'm ok, the important thing is the damage that he took, he never recovered from that, and Chavez still ok, well not that ok, but is way better than him.

  • @1800levso Chavez doesn't appear to be affected at all. One of the lucky ones that got out intact, I'd have said.

  • @pkbosslac I think he had the fastest hand out of any boxer I have ever watched, quite incredible.

  • @tickyul I would say 2nd. To me Roy Jones was faster especially p4p cus he was a natural middleweight and he looked just as fast if not faster than Taylor and Taylor obviously was a natural lightweight or welterweight depending on how u look at it.

  • @Zachrydaman No way....at least not IMHO. Meldrick was like The SiX Million Dollar Man......just a blurr. But Jones was a harder puncher, could really whack. The way Jones is going, just keeps on fighting.....he may end up like Taylor with boxing induced dementia. What the hell is Jones doing....maybe he is broke.....spent all his money on shiny bling and Hoes.

  • damn shame...i feel bad for him. if he possesed the "smarts" to just box the last round, he had it. now a REAL sad fight was what they did to Sweet Pea against their beloved JC

  • taylor is slurring

  • @mrroyixo Who the hell let him fight Chavez and many more after that beating.......pretty sad......he is obviously brain damaged.

  • his voice was kinda slurry in this. poor guy wat a legend

  • @HellsHighwayTrooper Yeah, he sounded pretty bad BEFORE his first fight with Chavez. If you have seen recent interviews of Taylor ...........wow, he is really bad, hard to understand. I guess getting hit in the head a lot will cause brain damage...oh my.

  • @tickyul yeah it is bad. do you think thats its mainly speech affected.. like if you asked him do you realise your speech is bad? would he understand? hes no that brain dead right? and could you send me a link to some recent interviews? i can only find the chavez hbo one? or is that the only one you seen?

  • @HellsHighwayTrooper I really doubt that just the speech center of his CNS is effected. Probaby his speech is just the most obvious. But you can seen the confusion and what appears to be slow thought process (not sharp at all, the way you would expect from a world class athlete) during the interview. Probably has the same syndrome as ALi (Parkinsons Pugilistica) or very similar. Taylor started boxing at 8..........yikes..........getting hit for that long is going to damage the whole CNS.

  • @tickyul Yeah hes still young and so far touch wood doesent have parkinsons but it seems the only damage is slowy and quite slurry now. Hes doing well though in his life at the moment though. its always good to know.

  • don king bribing refs

  • meldrick taylor seems like a nice guy. Its a pity how things turned out for him

  • @alcatras4 @trooperjoe73

The fight was stopped with two seconds left. Common guys, do you really think it was a good stoppage? Really? Common... Really?

  • Comment removed

  • @alcatras4 @trooperjoe73

For fucks sakes, if you don't believe me, just type in "richard steele corrupt" , but don't come here talking about how chavez won the fight. This fight is on several worst moments in boxing lists. Don't be one of the fucking idiots who actually agrees with the decision made by a bought out ref. I bet you guys think Ali really did knock Liston out in round 1 on that notorious night....

  • Richard Steele was in Don King's pocket... Anybody who can't see that is a fucking idiot. There was even a red light going off behind Taylor signalling the last seconds of the fight, and Steele still robbed him. No shame... This fight brings into doubt any stoppage he's ever called or not called... A disgrace to boxing....

  • "Unbelievable! Unbelievable! Richard Steele stopped the fight with less than 5 seconds to go! You're gonna watch Lou Duva go crazy now. You're gonna watch Lou Duva go absolutely berserk. This is one of the most unusual calls by a referee in the whole history of the sport!" - Announcer at ringside...

  • Much respect for Taylor who fought a great fight but Chavez slowly but surely wore him down. The ref asked the most important and crucial question to a fallen fighter..ARE YOU OK?..twice with no reply and a glassy far away look. Medical exams proved that Taylor had taken a vicious beating with resulting face fracture, internal bleeding and brain trauma. If Taylor would of just danced around on the final round he would have won. But Taylor is not Mayweather and he fought and lost like a warrior.

  • @alcatras4 Did you watch the fight? How can you pssibly say something like that? Even if Taylor wasn't okay to fight, there was no time left for Chavez to hurt him when the fight was called off. Taylor was robbed, and if you don't realise that, at least stop embrassing yourself with these statements you're making here. Sure Chavez landed good shots, but Taylor won the fight. Anybody who watched that fight agrees. I'm not black, and I have nothing against Latino fighters either. Taylor won.......

  • @alcatras4 wtf he put his head up he cant talk he got that thing in the mouth boxers got

  • xpono there you go opening up your fuckin mouth getting smoked by two seconds none of taylors punches did anything to Chavez, you are just like these fucking idiots at HBO , never gave Chavez a Chance but he destroyed Taylor you would never Admit it don't blame Steele you should be praising him for stopping the fight but you are too Ignorant, except it. Taylor was a great fighter but that night he fought someone much better. Taylor Held a Grudge for four years until his Rematch who won?JC

Taylor Held a Grudge for four years until he his Rematch who won?JC

  • Chavez fan all the way but I like Taylor doesnt seem too cocky.. sad what happened after tho...

  • a well spoken young man. Lebron James could learn a lot from boxers

  • Hey Mortek9, what the fuck are you babbling about? Honestly? Getting smoked by TWO SECONDS, that's an ass kicking? Not giving Chavez props isn't bring a chicken to the fucking ring like Mayweather Jr..You're so outside any bounds of logic its astonishing.

  • I admire Taylor for wanting to fight the best fighter in the sport. Other fighters like mayweather jr would dodge a match like this. Taylor was never a runner or hugger, very different from other typical fighters. Chavez fought like a warrior, I admire them both.

  • This interview indicates that he was retarded even before chavez gave him more brain damage.

  • @kukuness Yes, the video shows evidence of brain damage, that much is clear. I do not know how a doc giving a pre-fight exam did not pick up on this fact.....oh yeah..................boxing is corrupt and that includes most of the creeps involved with it.

  • POOR TAYLOR GOD BLESS HIM HE WAS A REAL GOOD PERSON

  • Taylor Little did you know he was going to ruin your Boxing Career, I guess you were not fast enough you relied on your toughness, you are a loser. but guess what you got your ass kicked,Face,Body, your Little Brain destroyed by a better fighter. you never gave Chavez the respect he deserved. you will always be a loser , but i have Pity for you. Talking is cheap you could never back it up! you got your 2nd chance and got your ass knock out again!! and you still had an excuse your dog died!!!!!!

  • @mortek9 YOU DIRTY LITTLE SPIC, FUUUUCCCKKK YOU!!!!!

  • @canibusnj say that to chavez fucker or Ortiz you fried chicken eater

  • @mortek9 What a wanker you are. Yes he got beat up but he tried. Have respect you pig.

  • @wtw88 a Wanker, I know he got beat up but you guys never gave JC any credit you are just as stupid as his corner telling him that he need to win the round.and Duva distracted him, I gave him all the respect in the world

he was over matched look at his face and not to mention that he pissed blood for a week broken cheek bone swollen brain listen to the Doctor that examined him after the fight. he was never the same after that fight.

  • @mortek9 Sorry if I didn't say I respect JC. He was one of the greats, and you're right about how beat up Taylor was; no doubt about it, that fight finished him. Sorry again for insulting you.

  • I was wondering what your opinions are after watching the taylor vs chavez fight and seeing the damage that meldrick taylor recieved in this fight and comparing to collins vs resto & margarito vs cotto and looking at chavez wraps and looking at the color of the wraps at the end of the fight and watching the damage that meldrick taylor recieved do you think there was foul play in the meldrick taylor vs julio cesar chavez fight????????? Just curious what you think in this theory after comparing

  • He seemed a little mentally impaired here...or maybe thats just how he talked...but i see the early signs here.

  • @MrSlik25 After Chavez he had full fledged brain damage. Check out more recent interviews, its pretty tragic.

  • @djrojas NOT REALLY IDIOT, LOOK AT AN PRE FIGHT INTERVIEW RIGHT HERE ON YOUTUBE BEFORE HE FOUGHT TERRY NORRIS POSTED BY RIGGOLD. FULL FLEDGED BRAIN DAMAGE LMFAO!!!!!!!! IF I SAW YOU IN PERSON I WOULD GIVE YOU A FUL FLEDGED ASS WHOPPING! YOU'RE JUST PLAIN FUCKING DUMB!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @canibusnj Uh, why so hostile??? In your opinion, he is not showing at least some signs of brain damage..........lol, it is quite obvious.

  • I love Julio he is my favorite fighter ever.... But no disrespect to Meldrick awesome in his own right... Too bad what happened to him... I wish that on no human being... Nuff Respect... Thank you guys for the entertainment...

  • Meldrick realy had gutts to step into the ring with Chavez

  • that fight was the robery of the century. They stole that fight and meldricks career all in one night :(

  • chavez kicked his ass...and won the fight in his own right.

  • lmao jim lampley looks at his LIKE :s your umm gonna use the whole ring right?

  • chavez s the best and nobody is gonna break his record not even his son lol . . . his son sucks

  • @PRETTYBOYMARIO10 Very much so

  • @PRETTYBOYMARIO10 His son will never be the fighter Chavez Sr was. Pretty (marketable) and with the same name but wouldn't have stood a chance against a prime Mel Taylor or any of the good fighters around at that time.

  • @CEO1451 do u know boxing do you know what i meant julio lost his legs and waist movement after the taylor fight

  • @BROWNREDFOWL Mayweather deserves a Beating from Julio Cesar Chavez.

  • So sad! Chavez ended M. Taylors career.

  • Speech is real choppy and robotic, almost like he is having a real hard time talking or coming up with words.

  • @tickyul SHUT THE FFFFFUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKKK UP!!!!!!

  • @canibusnj Uh, what did I say that bothered you so much, you disagree with my comments????? Just watch the video again.....real carefully..............Taylor is demented.

  • he took a terrible beating to the head and specially to the body, after the fight his uring was pure blood from those body shots, he spent 3 days in that condition and his head was damaged seriously, now julio was a beast but both were never the same after this fight... VIVA CHAVEZ

  • @parracatau yes chavez lost his legs and waiste movement.

  • @parracatau Taylor had significant symptoms of dementia in this video, really looked out of sorts. I can only imagine how much worse fighting Chavez made his already existing brain damage.

  • @parracatau What are you talking about BOTH never being the same after their fight? Chavez certainly seemed to be in great shape afterwards. After unifiying the titles by defeating Taylor, he beat the crap out of 18(!!!) fighters over 3 years. Among them Lonnie Smith, Hector Camacho, Greg Haugen, and Juan Soberanes Ramos.

  • @parracatau

Chavez was still good. Came out clean and happy with a victory. M. Taylor was never the same. really sad. He was a good fighter.

  • taylor was fucked in the ass by chavez he was seriously rape his body was semi dead lol

  • POOR MELDRICK TAYLOR HE DOSENT KNOW HE WILL GO VISIT THE JETSONSSSSS MARCH 17 1990 IN THE LAST ROUND 12

  • poor ... simply he don't know the hell that awaits him on March 17, 1990. It's like his last recording before his death.

  • @rockerkid26 He was already brain damaged, watch the interview again, it is pretty obvious.

  • @rockerkid26 Like the Last Supper LOL.

  • chavez rules!!

  • @ghostrivas CHAVEZ IS A BITCH!!!!!!

  • @canibusnj ooh yes?... but, who win??... chavez!!! ha ha!

    brown pride! little chavalas!!

  • It's got to be genetic, fighters like Chavez, margarito, lamota, hagler etc, take shots and they don't really get affected in the long term then you have certain fighters who it just gains on, I can see in this interview , his been damaged, the Chavez fight must of killed some brain cells, anyone know what Taylors doing now?

  • @frisbyrb5 Yeah, Taylor sounded pretty bad in this interview, the Chavez fight could not have helped. I think if you were to talk to a lot of fighter like Hagler or Lamota you would probably find out they have some deficeits from boxing even if they were not really obvious. Genetics probably has quite a bit to do with it to.

  • 8 seconds and he would of beat Chavez , that would ruin Any fighter mentally, imagine the pain being so close and then Steele stops ti, shame

  • I keep coming back to this video, the interview before the first Chavez fight. It is like watching a train wreck....the reason I say that is because Taylor obviously has brain damage in this interview.......think what the beating he took in the Chavez fight did to that already damaged brain.

  • @pkbosslac

THEY FOUGHT TWO TIMES YOU FUCKING MORON

  • IT'S A SHAME BECAUSE YOU COULD TELL HIS COGNITION WAS DEFINITELY DAMAGED AFTER THE FIRST FIGHT.

  • Damn, he does sound kind of punch drunk in this interview before fighting JCC the 1st time, he's sort of slurring his words and is glassy eyed like everyone says. JCC just exacerbated the situation after the fight. That's what you get for trying to be a Philly fighter instead of using ring smarts.

  • @lorenzodemedici1 Done, fricken done....even before the Chavez fight. All of those gym wars and nearly 200 amateur fights, the brain can only take so much.

  • Can't get over this video, Taylor sounds fucked up, the Chavez fight was just icing on the cake.

  • Comment removed

  • @pkbosslac Uh, I am not really getting your point. I was trying to make the point that TAYLOR APPEARED TO BE SUFFERING FROM SOME FORM OF BRAIN DAMAGE BEFORE THE CHAVEZ FIGHT, watch the video again. The Chavez fight was just frosting on the cake. I wonder if the doctor who examined him before the Chavez fight picked up on this fact????

  • he was punch drunk already

  • @pkbosslac After???? Shit, did you just watch the fucking video??????

  • Chavez proved he was the man in this fight...

  • Richard steele is an embarresment to boxing he destroyed meldricks dreams that would of came true, this guy would of went down in history for beating chavez and might of even changed his career, but chavez did his him with alot of shots so i dont know what his career had of turned out,but this man is a real fighter.

  • @WardogBoxingFan Meldrick destroyed himself by continuing to trade blows with Chavez on the 12 round. Had he danced around Chavez (not the fastest on the sport) like any other boxer would, he would had won.

But he didn't, so Chavez knocked-him out. He stood up, kept holding the ropes, and didn't answered to Steele's questions. So no, there was no foul play, deal with it.

  • He was robbed v Chavez FUCK RICHARD STEELE!

  • I feel sorry how his career and personal life and health also went down after Chavez, they are legends!

  • WOW HE WAS DOE BEFORE DA CHAVEZ FIGHT LOOK HOW HE WAS TALKIN CHAVEZ FINISHED HIM

  • @CHINOVILLEZCAS You posted just what I was thinking, did not sound real good in the interview, you could hear/feel/see the damage that had already been done. Glassy eyed and hard to understand, he was done before the Chavez fight.

  • If only Meldrick would have boxed Chavez's ears off...............If only.

  • @Wutangspam He did for about the first 9 rounds then it all went south from there.

  • @Wutangspam wutang forever

  • chavez screwed up meldrick taylor... TWICE!!!!!

  • It looks like MT was reading off the teleprompter.

  • All my admiration for Meldrick Taylor. He just saw Chavez his upcoming rival give a formidable performance and he is not scared at all. In fact he looks as if though he cant wait for the fight. MT was very courageous to go against a monster like Chavez and fight with no fear.

    Thanks MarvinDiggla!

  • @rubenmendez0327 oh he had fear. you can bet that! he was going up against the culiacan lion who was 68-0 with 56 knock outs. chances are very high this dude going to a dent on your fade.

  • @desconocidos27 Actually it was 66-0 with 55 knockouts... but you came pretty close anyway, xD

  • @rubenmendez0327 and he won it... He clinicked Chavez and that referee that stopped the fight with 6 seconds left for a Taylor win sucks... Its all rigged and Don King was written all over it.

  • @amosbett Hating!!!

  • @jiujitsujedi Truthful!!!

  • @amosbett Not the fact that Chavez put him down? Not the fact that Taylor could not react? Not the fact that the bell can't save a fighter? Not the fact that the referee can't anticipate the bell and has to call what he sees? It's unfortunate that it took hospital results to see the real damage Chavez did to this kid! No to mention the fact that his face looked like he took several baseball bats to it!

  • @trooperjoe73 You obviously never watched the fight. It was a scandalous ending, everybody in boxing thinks so. Stop embarassing yourself.

  • @EvilHenchman10 What are you retarded?! I saw the fight, the night it happened! I'm 37 kid! Not only did I see it then, I've seen it many times over. I'm not just a boxing fan, I've actually boxed. If you watched the HBO special of Chavez vs Taylor, you will see all the commentators talk about the controversy. Eventually, they realize, it's a sad moment for Taylor to get beat to death and not get his "championship" moment. Lou Duva had to LIE in order to not look bad. Camera don't lie!

  • @EvilHenchman10 The fight was fair! Taylor was out-pointing Chavez, but did you see any real damage to him? No! 10-9 point system makes it possible to come back and win by points. However, it wasn't needed! Chavez landed the power shots that did DAMAGE!! Look at his face, do your homework and realize, Chavez beat this guy something terrible! On the standing count, Taylor did not answer as he should. He was groggy, distracted (his corner) and he got TKO'd. End of story! Think, then speak!

  • @trooperjoe73 Ok trooperjoe73... Whatever you say. Let me guess what kind of a boxer you were, a brawler with absolutely no accuracy, speed or finesse... You obviously have ZERO appreciation for either of these boxing traits... And you're saying you wouldn't be mad if the ref called off a fight you were winning on points if there was only two seconds left and your opponent never would have made it across the ring in time to even punch you once anyways? Ok trooper.... Ok..............

  • @trooperjoe73 Some also cited that two years before this match, Steele was refereeing the bout between Thomas Hearns and Iran Barkley, and when Barkley first knocked his opponent down in the third round, Hearns was apparently not in the shape to be able to continue but Steele let him go on, stating after the fight when asked about his decision that such a great champion like Hearns should be given the chance to pull himself together

  • @trooperjoe73 In contrast with this, after the Chavez-Taylor fight, Steele told that when he sees a hurt fighter he is stopping the fight, regardless of the time left.

  • @EvilHenchman10 chavez beat taylor 2 times. But the first fight was enough cause he caused taylors brain damage

  • @amosbett there was actually only 2 seconds left...

  • @amosbett No whiner, it was Chavez fist written all over Meldrick's broken face. For all the retards out there...when a man can not respond to another man asking him if he is okay then he is knocked out. Steele had no choice but to stop it Mel was KO'd deal with it...........

  • @movieman7000 What's so SAD?

  • @canibusnj maybe that meldrick taylors brain is messed up and he was still boxing

  • @canibusnj he is brain damaged now

  • @canibusnj - Watch Hbo Legendary fights Chavez Taylor then you will know.

  • @canibusnj Done, fricken toast before the fight, stumbling and mumbling.

  • @canibusnj that he's brain damaged now

  • @canibusnj The way he speaks, thats what sad.

  • @movieman7000 nothing is sad about this particular interview....though i know what you are getting at

  • @BloodBoxing What do you think Blood..do you think Steele made the right decision in that fight?

  • @BloodBoxing Looks like he was pretty messed up BEFORE the Chavez fight, looks slow and demented. language and thinking are effected.

  • please post more interviews/ behind the cenes and ight build ups from the 1980's /90's

    many thanks

    mr pecker decker
