@MrJezza31 You're right - I need all sorts of things on the layout but I'm still in the process of adding some indoor storage loops and apart from the fact that I'm not the quickest of workers, it's all getting a bit expensive. Hopefully, come the middle of the year, I should have the loops installed and operational so that I can do some work around the outdoor section.
Great video mate. The railway looks ace. Standard question, what sort of measures need to be taken for the OO track to run properly outdoors, with atmospheric conditions/rain affecting it etc? The 4-CEP looks excellent, my layout that I'm building will have no third rail either...gonna try and find a Class 33/1 with push-pull connectors, that'll give me an excuse to run as many EMUs as I like - as long as that's on the front it'll run like regular carriages! :)
@TangmereTornado No real problems running outdoors. Obviously you're unable to run during rain, snow, freezing conditions (sounds like the UK summer?) but other than that you're fine. Outdoor layouts require more frequent cleaning but it soon becomes second nature and the space available outside more than makes up for the additional work needed - long trains with somewhere for them to run to.
Actually I shouldn't really have been filming that just yet but it was "4 Christmas - Early Present'. In light of your question and the great value this set represents, perhaps 'Cheap Electro Pneumatic"?
As far as I know (and I'm just a northerner in this respect) the class 411 were CEP (Corridor Electro Pneumatic) while a similar 4-car set containing buffet facilities (known under BR as class 410) were 4-BEP's. (Buffet Electro Pneumatic I assume) Perhaps someone can correct me if I'm wrong?
No your not wrong. Seeing as you havnt seen one i'll fill you in. These units were fantastic. They were a bit bumpy at speeds of over 50. If you sat in the driving coaches it was a very noisy ride and even bumpier. But they were fantastic. As late as 2005 they were the most reliable trains in the country and were still hurtling about at 90 on fast services. Anyway, looks like an excellent model, 5*
... all it needed was the "raspberry" two tone horn as it sped over the viaduct. Nice video. Keep an eye ot for one of these on my garden line in the next few days.. I am going to get two eventually and run them as an 8 car on DCC
Being a 'northerner' I've never seen a CEP before so why have I bought two...? simply because I like the look of them. I'll be running mine as 2 separate 4-car sets on DCC - one blue/grey and one in green. I'll keep a look out for yours...
Excellent.. well you may or may not know that the Southern region has this unique anomaly of trains splitting en-route hence the reason why I will run two together then split them into two 4 cars at a certain time to replicate the front 4 cars for all stations to wherever and the rear 4 cars for all stations to wherever east!
The Selby Garden Railway also had this unique anomaly of trains splitting en-route but thankfully I've just about cured that now! (my track laying was letting me down). Seriously, the CEP sounds like it has tremendous operational possibilities for the modeller and it will be interesting to see how people get on.
@digest59 Im in the process of building Ashford Station circa 1981 because I saw the bachmann 411, I just couldn't resist it, long road ahead but it will be worth it.
@hitchhiker38 I have no idea what Ashford Station looks like but I can understand you being tempted into building a model of it simply through your purchase of the class 411. Why I like them so much I really don't know. Never seen them, never been on one but I now have 3 of them. Will video all three in action just as soon as the weather improves and I get my full layout back in operation. Maintenance ongoing at the moment!
I was fortunate enough to live in Ashford during the 411 era and spent most of my Saturdays on them, Travling to Margate or Folkestone Hearing the click, click, click of the motor takes me straight back, so now i have to pay to have the sound chip added lol, another £100 down the swanny
I'm slowly building up my collection of sound-fitted stock but the cost of doing so is becoming somewhat prohibitive. The 411's and the new Bachmann class 47s will just have to wait their turn. Surely the cost of sound chips will come down to a more affordable level soon?
very nice i think you need some weatherproff buildings on your layout though

That 4 CEP of yours looks great and being Bachmann runs well. Have a merry christmas and a happy new year. PS what does CEP stand for.

Certainly are excellent models and it sounds like they were an exhilarating ride too. Thanks for the insight and for the confirmation.
