Yes the "Toronto Sound" should of broken world wide but no record company support, no great managers or agents to propel it to the top. Every musicain who went from Yorkville to the States hit it big.
What a great trip down memory lane to a time when Toronto (the good back then) was the home of RnB in Canada and leading the way were John & Lee and the Checkmates along with the Rogues (later Mandala) and Grant Smith and the Power, Shawn & Jay Jackson and the Majestics, Robbie Lane and the Disciples, David Clayton Thomas. What a great and peaceful time to be in the village and down Younge Street and the RnB influence that became known as the Toronto Sound. Great Post and great memories.
at applejack's in mississauga (a couple years ago) and at the old gray's lakehouse (no longer around) in port credit. this is going back a few years ago. can't quite remember what we played but he complimented me on my drum chops! :D

It was actually JON & Lee and the Checkmates (no "H"), although his real name was John. I went out with him a couple of times. Great band, nice guy.
