I have been shooting for over 25 years. I live in Florida and finally decided to get a CCW. I took a good class with about 20 other people. What blew my mind was other than me, the instructor and two other people, nobody had any experience shooting. Most of the people were planning to carry with literally NO experience of shooting. This is really scary to say the least!
3 DAYS?! 3 DAYS?! I have a 10 wait here in california... First time I bought a ruger 10/22 it took about a month of wait because I have a similar name to some asshole crook. Sigh..
I also live in Tampa. I got my CCW in 2001 and have carried ever since. My primary is a S&W M&P .40C. and my BUG is Bodygaurd .380. I find the .380 much easier to carry CCW. PS for all you .380 haters, the .380 is balisitcally comparable with a .38 snubbie. Mr. PDS shooter, check out the Smith and Wesson Sigma series pistol - a "Glock" knock off" . I have picked these up for $200.00 (Shoot Straight) because many dont like the trigger. Check out the trigger mods posted on You-tube for the sigma.
@HybridGunz thanks for the info, i learned alot. i live in california, will they accept the FL ccw??? i know for a fact its VERY Tough to get one here.
@MrPSDShooter My Ruger 10 22 was the first gun I purchased with my CCW and it was so nice walking out with it. All my other guns I had to wait three days. It truly sucked!!!
Its much quicker if you call your local office and make an appointment. it take about 2-3 weeks to get your permit. you fill out the application there, take the photo and fingerprints
@HybridGunz hm that could be a problem because i plan on staying in FL. So if i get a FL DL can i keep my PA DL? because if not i dont think the PA CCW will work
@SonsOfLiberty65 Yeah, It's a so called cool off period. So if your wife pisses you off you can just go buy a gun the same day. However if you have a CCW you don't have to wait.
@HybridGunz nice i am def gonna get a CCW when i move to FL and that is awesome that you dont have to wait if you have a CCW! Does FL recognize the PA CCW? if so i might keep my PA DL and CCW until i get the FL CCW . Then when i get the FL CCW i will turn in my PA DL for a FL DL. Will this work?
@SonsOfLiberty65 Yes Florida will honor your PA CCW. But for FIREARMS ONLY. You would have to get the FL CCW if you want to carry stun guns, knives, asp batons....ect.
@SonsOfLiberty65 You can apply for a non-resident permit. But in my opinion you should just wait until you get your FL DL...so you're not paying twice for a CCW and FL recognizes your PA CCW anyways. Just don't carry any knives with blades over 4 inches or any other less lethal concealed weapon until then!!!
I am a former homicide detective in Florida and NRA Certified Firearms instructor who teaches the Florida concealed weapons permit class and advanced handgun training.
The reason I started teaching was because of cases I've investigated where I would look at the victim and think that it could have been prevented if the victim had a concealed weapons permit.
Florida concealed weapons permit are like seat-belts and fire extinguishers - you should have them but hope you never need them.
Nope. FAIL! A 3 day wait is not a cool thing. It is designed by antigunners to slow down handgun sales to citizens. It is a statistically proven fact that waiting periods have no effect on crime or domestic violence.
@RedWolftcm I pulled this right from the application: active-duty military personnel may submit copies of any of the following documents that confirm your experience with a firearm gained during your service: military orders including call to active-duty letter; a statement of military service signed by, or at the direction of, the adjutant, personnel officer, or commander of your unit or higher headquarters which identifies you and provides your date of entry on your current active-duty period
you are the man I need to talk to what level holster do you need to carry your gun because somebody told me you need a level 2 holster
