General Giap sent the same division of crack NVA that won at Dien bien PHu against the Marines at Khe Sahn during the big Spring Tet Offensive. 5.000 Marines were fighting 2 NVA divisions with 2 in reserve in Laos. General Giap wanted US troops out of the North so they could attack down the country from the DMZ. This was part of the whole large scale offensive that failed, US killed 17,000 NVA at Khe Sahn alone, 8,000+ at Hue. Total killed NVA/VC 55.000 for Tet 68.
