  • Very moving & lesson learned that we have no right to kill some human being.

  • ...and what made this worse was those wastes from the Westboro Baptist Church picketing and protesting Matthew's funeral like the abominations they are, hurting Dennis and Judy Shephard even more..

Fred Phelps, you have no earthly idea how fortunate you are that God is a loving God,and cares for all,and is a merciful God.I believe strongly that Matthew is with God now.

I wish I had God's immense power for only one day so I could deal with those Reprobates at the Westboro Baptist Church.

  • Every time I watch this I get chills.

  • I think if Charo jumped out and did a calypso version of something.... that would have made this scene better. Nothing like a little cuchi cuchi in the courtroom!!!!

  • Ok I have to stop watching or there will be a flood in my bedroom. Sorry, I'm a coward ;_;

  • i always cry at this part

  • this part gets me sobbing every time

  • does anyone know if those two guys who killed matthew shephard are still in jail? i sure hope so,k but im not sure.

  • this was made into a movie!? when!?

  • You are a sick individual as are all that use religion as a weapon.

  • Who all here is from Laramie?? i sure am

  • I was born there

  • I auditioned for a production of the laramie project at my school. hope i did ok

  • What school do you go to?

  • a community college in san bernardino county, i am not allowed to say which specific school though, sorry :(

  • Oh ok, I was just wondering because I auditioned for Laramie at my community college in rancho and I thought maybe you went to the same college I did, lol

  • rancho cucamonga? then yes, I did.

  • i too am about to do this for a monologue in my theatre class and am not looking forward to it just because i don't think the people in the class will appreciate and understand the emotion in it. god i have some work ahead of me. thank you for puttin this on here so i had something to work off of

  • Our school's GSA sponsored a viewing of this on Monday... everyone was crying during this part.

  • I am a straight man who is using this monologue at Second City Chicago. Not for comedy but rather for practice. It is one of the most moving monologues that I have ever heard. I had to read it three times before I could even read it without tearing up. How anybody could watch the above and not be moved in one's person and in one's thinking is beyond me. Thanks for posting this video, it is a valuable tool for further understanding what Mathew Shepard's father went through during those times.

  • @jcasey912 Not for comedey? Why would anyone think it was for comedy

  • @carusoson Second City is known for comedy as opposed to works of drama, and that's why somebody would wonder about comedy. Had you bothered using that new-fangled Google thingy you may have noticed Second City's web site, it's now entitled: Second City - 50 Years of Funny.

  • @jcasey912 Anyone over the age of 10 know s of the famous Second City and its focus on comedy. Unless you were a cold soul, no one would have thought you intended it to be for comedy. "new-fangled Google Thingy"...right. May not want to go into comedy.

  • @carusoson So what you're saying here is that you're under ten.

  • @jcasey912 If you read my post I saod "Secondy City is KNOWN for comedy", so your comments, again, make no sense. pwned. nuff said.

  • Hey I'm a gay american......

  • continuation... (to 36176258)

you cannot generalize Americans by two twisted young men. did you not see the reaction of the people? most Americans were just as appalled by Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson's actions as you were.

have you not seen our gay pride rallies? why do you think AMERICANS made this movie? to show the horrors of prejudice, to try and STOP IT. one of my best friends is gay and i support him 100 percent.

  • To 36176258

    hey wow now

I never comment people like this

but you need to please watch what you say

some of us lost people very precious to us that day and for you to say that is horrible and ignorant.

you think a honest man working hard for his three kids and his wife to go to Disneyland deserved to die that day, on 9/11?

you think his three-year-old son deserved to loose his father without ever knowing him?!?!

  • continuation....

(by the way the reason those other messages are repeating eachother is because they keep getting marked as spam....

    anways.

you have NO right to insult all Americans like that, and ESPECIALLY to talk about 9/11. Matthew Shepard did not deserve what happened to him, no one does. But neither did the man who had to jump to his own death to avoid burning alive while telling his family they loved them and to be good.

  • so while i try to control my anger, screw you. if you really have compassion, tolerance, understanding and love, which is what this movie is trying to promote, then come back when you can show it please, and DON'T you DARE talk about things you don't understand.

thank you and i hope you take what i said into consideration.

  • I don't wanna waste my time answering to all of your comments. Like it or not, people HAVE THE RIGHT to say WHAT they want. I'm FREE to express my thoughts even If you, or anyone else, disagree with them. Tolerance is definitely not among your values after seeing you comments either. And as for 11-S, I admit I went too far but it's true some people deserve what they get

  • ..."AND DON'T YOU DARE TALK ABOUT THINGS...???" Who do you think you are, fucking idiot?? I think you shouldn't use those words. Next time, PLEASE, use the right words to sound more credible.

  • SHUT UP, YOU MOTHERFUCKER! Everyone knows he was killed for being gay. What can you expect? There's no people in the world that despise homosexuality in the world more than Wyoming people, more than the US. You, Americans are fucking garbage. Time will tell and YOU WILL GET WHAT YOU DESERVE!!

  • the gay agenda?????what on earth are you people talking about.....if wanting to live without fear, with an account of dignity, wanting life, wanting to dream of a better tomorrow....if that's an agenda, than you bet your life, we have an agenda....

"for i am no longer i, and my home is no longer my home"

  • This speech is posted on Wikipedia.

And the gay agenda, is not true, I've never heard of it, and I've been gay forever.

  • "He had one more friend with him. He had God."

Most powerful part of the movie. When I saw this in class I had to fight back tears.

  • How am I in any way defiling "the Truth"?

I am only typing what I see written in your book. =]

  • Didn't you just contradict yourself?

Anyways, that fools fairy-tale was written 2k yeras ago..

Also, the Bible says don't shave your sideburns or you're sinning...also, don't wear two types of fabric, or you're sinning.

Please. Your book is the most stupid thing I have ever read.

  • WTF is wrong with you?

There is no "Gay Rights Agenda"...and if there is, then there must also be a "Straight Rights Agenda"..idiot.

  • morever, how is this anti-christian? Not wanting someone to die is anti-christian? You're unbelievable, I honestly believe you people should be forced to wear a muzzle. You're a pitiful excuse for a human being and you are no being of conscience.

  • this doesn't even have anything to do with gay rights and the fact you bring it up is like saying "matthew shepard deserved to die". You should have compassion for a fallen human being not expressing your religious bigotry.

  • this was one of the hardest scenes in the play for me to watch cuz i played the trial judge at glendale cc back in 2003

  • My school did the play and everyone was crying during the teasers and the whole play. Thankfuly we didn't have any hicks or rednecks screaming bigoted shit. We did the Angle wing project part and that was my favorite

  • I wish my highschool would preform it.

  • my high school is doing that play. I couldnt try out because I had cross country but Im doing backstage. Its truly a sad play and most people underestimate it because were highschoolers but hopefully we'll do it the justice it deserves. poor Matt.

  • I was in a high school production of the play, I played four or five different charicters, but my favorite was romane patterson [christina ricci's charicter]. she is the best. but yeah, it was sad cause when we did the play in front of my school all the hicks and jerks just would start applauding at random places or scream something like "STUPID FAGGOTS!"

    ...

    *sigh*

  • What great dignity - what great tragedy.

  • Its much diffrent when you were actually there I should know I was . I lived there when it happened

  • That must have been so hard... It's so sad how something like that can happen to any town.

How was it different? I haven't actually seen the movie, but I've seen a version of the play.

  • this was a good movie sucks Matthew had to die though

  • great scene. the audio and video don't sync tho

  • However the father doesn't let him die...he lets him live...
