  • The king cracks me up. "Frollo's a murderer, lol, what is this, I don't even."

  • I don't care if it would get me hung or ostracized by society, i would stay by Quasimodo thru thick and thin and try to get the people to see how unjust they are!

  • i love this, and the silent phantom of the opera, mainly because my grandad was born in 1905, and they were both his faves, and i remember watching them, in the 80s myself, as a little girl and being frightened by both lon chaneys characters :D he is one of the best at looking frightening :D

  • I remember reading the book and coming to the conclusion that out of all the characters in the entire story, Quasimodo was the one with the most decency.

  • He wanted to say something... but what was it then?

  • @MevrLittleMaria

Quasimodo wanted to tell Ezmeralda that he loved her. But his courage failed him because of his deformities and physical appearance. So he ran away. But he was in love with her.

  • Esmeralda played by a traditional beauty. Maureen O'Hara? Don't remember her films except 'The Quiet Man', but if ever there was a 'traditionally' good-looking like standard beauty, she was it. Not my type, but she's good in this. she can act some

  • I want Frollo's hat :3

  • Gringoire is soooooooo cute!!

  • Esmeralda in the book to be blunt didn't give a rats ass about Quasimodo. Some of you people need to get out of your Disney fantasies.

  • hunch back isnt ugly hes sweet and nice

  • i lol'd at the king he's such a funny old man. he reminds me of my grandpa.

  • Clopin is the coolest guy ever.

  • People seem to compare this Frollo to the Disney but at least the Frollo here cared for Quasi enough to not accuse him of murdering Pheobus.

  • @forcommongood Lol, fair enough, at least we can say *that* much for him.

  • i think edmund o'brien looks really handsome in this movie!!!!!

  • I agree, Iluvrimmel!

  • Quazi is so kind! I would be-friend him, who wouldnt?

Not out of pity, but because of how kind and trustworthy he is

  • @iluvrimmel i COMPLETELY agree! and i hate how in this movie, esmerellda isnt all that kind to him. yes she gives him water, but after he ran away in this scene, she should've gone after him instead of pitying herself.

  • @iluvrimmel Me too.I HATE this Esmeralda, how can she be so COLD and unfeeling to him,she is the most so in the end of last clip and beginning of this 1. Why is she so hateful towads him. He was the only man in all of Paris who gave a crap about her, risked his life to pull her from the flames and she can't even show him the slightest kindness when his heart is tearing him apart just trying to speak to her-would it have killed her to take his hand & listen to what he had to say?

  • @iluvrimmel probably

  • You know, I have a love hate relationship with Esmeralda, because I get that she was young and stupid, as we all are at some point, when it comes to love, but Hugo seemed to be very wish-washy with her character development. One moment she would be kind and getting used to Quasi, and the the next she'd be ignoring, and/or yelling at him..and then she died. O_o; so...really we'll never know if she'd realize Quasi's feelings and appreciate them.

  • Oops I mean Snape, not Snaps XD

  • lol :P

  • i don´t know why but this Frollo kinda reminds of Severus Snape oO

  • He's way hotter. Severus Snaps is gross. XP

  • aaahh noooo snape is hot :P

  • @MsPinkWings Snape (Alan Rickman) is sexy!!

  • @MissPerversium OH MY GOD That is exactly what I was thinking!!!! I love them both.

  • I love the king he's so amusing. he just goes along with everything and is so simple! he's awesome!

  • Esmeralda is even worse in the book. She doesn't care at all about Quasi's feelings and is completely obsessed with Phoebus the entire time she's at ND. In fact, if I remember correctly, when she's in Sanctuary she actually recruits Quasi to talk to Phoebus for her (who in the book survives the attack and gets married soon after the day of her execution). So contrary to all the film versions, Esmeralda isn't this really deep, loving person; she's quite superficial.

  • You're so right, she's really naive, superficial, I can't honestly stand her. She's a goose that threatened really bad Gringoire and Quasi...but in the end there aren't much positive characters in the book:Gringoire is a coward that decides to leave her when she needs help,Clopin decides to attack ND mainly to steal the treasures inside the church. I think that paradoxically Frollo was the less mean one,'cause before meeting Esme he was a very good person,he grew his brother and Quasi

  • Quasi is the only one who really loved her, Pheobus Gringoire and Frollo just thought she was attractive

  • @beanbagproductions

True, but, alas, in the book, Victor Hugo makes it clearer that Frollo actually does fall in love with her, despite in position in the church. I mean, who is willing to throw away the role Archdeacon for a girl and go against everything he's learned? I think it was the 1982 movie version that showed of Frollo's true love. I kinda like his character, in it's uniqueness and deepness :]

It was Pheobus who always remained the true ass xD

  • @XxM00nSHADExX But didn't he almost kill Pheobus, almost rape her, and condemn her for his crime? How is that love and how is that not being an ass?? He deserved what he got. No decent human being with morals would stoop so low.

  • @YourOasis97

Do you think someone would do all of that just to be an ass?

No morals? What about the fact he raised an abandoned, deformed child for his own when no one else would take him (even teaching him a form of sign language when he became deaf)? Or raised his little brother with the best of his ability and love? Frollo really just cracked after years of denied feelings and to have all his work and love put into two people end up failing.

  • @XxM00nSHADExX sure, but that doesn't excuse him for what he did. in the end, he became certifiably insane/psychopathic.

  • @XxM00nSHADExX The truth is that the real Frollo came out under pressure. The real test is can you do the right thing when it hurts? Seeing where this weak dirtbag ended up, one has to wonder what his motivations were in "rescuing" the Quaz man. Denying our inner dirtbag is the real test...when you have the chance to screw your business partner out of money,....when your buddy's wife or girlfriend comes on to you. To quote David Ruffin and the Temptations, "Beauty's only skin deep". Quaz rules.

  • @XxM00nSHADExX Even before that he had been plotting to have her arrested for sorcery so that he could have access to her in jail (the Phoebus affair speeded up things). Next he tried to rape her in the belltower and later he plotted again to get her out of the cathedral and blackmail her once more. And let's not forget that he once tried to abduct her using Quasimodo. Phoebus may have all the faults of a 15th century soldier but never tried to rape or frame her. Esmeralda chose to date him.

  • @XxM00nSHADExX True, Frollo did not start out as a bad man and was maddened due to his feelings for Esmeralda BUT this is no excuse. Even if we overlook the fact that he stubbed Phoebus, fact remains that he let the woman you say he loved take the blame and be arrested, tortured, jailed for a month and sent to the gallows. Instead of helping her because he loved her and wanted her to live, he tried to blackmail her. Since she did not love him, he preferred to see her dead than with another man.

  • @beanbagproductions Gringoire did really love her he was the only 1 out of Pheobus and Frollo who stuck by her and tryed to save her as for Pheobus he was just an arogant twat

  • @artykez When did Frollo stick by her? He never took any responsibility for stubbing Phoebus and even gave away her goat tricks to his friend Charmolue so that she would be convicted of witchcraft. He wanted to see her either in her grave or in his bed and that does not exactly paint the picture of a devoted lover. And if saving her means stubbing her boyfriend and running away so she would be arrested, then he should have let her with Phoebus. At least she would still be alive(but he hated it).

  • @artykez Many apologies, my previous response was not really to your message. You said that Gringoire was the one who tried to save her (besides Quasimodo) and not Frollo. I fully agree with you. It should be noted though that, in this movie version, Gringoire does a lot more than what he does in the book.

  • @NorthStar8211 its ok i can see where you could have got mixed up i love this film it is a timeless classic!

  • gosh this is dramatic its great!

  • this is different from the novel!

    but the acting is good

and the press thing is taken way out of order it almost becomes a subplot in this film it's only really mentioned in book 5 of the novel.

  • The king is such a (loveable) kook - he kind of reminds me of my old tap teacher... weird.

  • Frollo was a religious fanatic, a lunitic and he deserved to be hanged not esmeralda

  • what is with all you people in love with Frollo?

  • Have you read the book? You would understand why Frollo is the best character if you have. He's the most complex character that clearly demonstrates the natural struggle between your desires and society. He is absolutely fasinating and enjoyable to analyze his character.

  • @nojokesfact But unless I'm informed that Frodo wasn't willing to let his lust and jealousy get a hold of him to drive him to ignore Quasimodo or accuse an innocent person of his crime, his "complexities" don't make him likable.

  • @StellianAriolus Frodo?! FRODO?! This movie has no Frodo!

  • @twolionss FroLLo, lol.

  • It's like people liking Darth Vader better than Luke Skywalker. Who is memorable? A great villain portrayed by a great actor. Cedric Hardwicke was a great actor (He hardly ever played villains, though)

  • Cedric played Brocklehurst in Jane Eyre-- THEE Villain!

  • at lest frollo was honset

  • yay Disney Frollos hat! Wootz!! and what do you mean your Frollo? hes my Frollo! :P

  • No! He's my Frollo!!!! Hee hee!!!

  • @iluvcheezitsheyhey Why does everyone love Frollo? He left Quasimodo when he was being tortured, he stabbed Phoebus, and he has an unadulterated and unorthodox lust for a young girl.

  • The King kicks ass if you ask me! Always looking for new ideas and inventions :D

  • "I did it would do it again!" hahahah oh my frollo is so childish!

  • "a plague on you if you don't stop arguing like lawyers! do something!" i liked thet. old films really had well written scripts!

  • somehow i can hear the empire march from star wars playing during the gypsie's march LOLXD

  • omg me too maybe the dirctor of starwars wached this before he made the movie. that would be werd though

  • LMAO good call

  • Okay that light was obviously a spotlight and not the lamp. Good setup for when the shit finally hits the fan.
