The choreo is really good aswell as Billy. But as an European contemporary dancer, American style contemporary is not my thing. At moments it gets a bit to crazy and uncontrolled. Only high legs and stuff. I like more the contemporary choreo's from Paul Lightfoot and Sol Leon from Nederlands Dans Theater. Even though, sonya and billy did a really good job.

The thing is, I've never seen Billy do contemporary when doing his style. But I've seen him partner in actual contemporary on the show his season.. and it's not the greatest thing ever no. -- Meanwhile Sonya is very demanding on a dancers technique. saying a Lyrical dancer doesn't use ballet technique is like saying a Jazz dancer doesn't use ballet technique, it's completely stupid. You can fuse your style however you want. Billy Bell and Kathryn Mc are complete opposites... Kathryn is ACTUALLY a contemporary dancer... "ballet technique" is vague. Billy doesn't use conventional ballet technique, it's more jazz style.... If you want contemporary with more classic ballet technique, then go watch Kathryn or Melanie Moore. Mad Hatter = contemp?

Quirky, slow, smooth ... that's not all, you have to look at the dance vocabulary. Sonya's quirky, Billy's quirky but he uses ballet technique and ballet movements and Sonya doesn't. That's a big difference.

well considering that she is cont/jazz and he is cont/ballet/modern trained at julliard, i would say that stylistically he is moving closer to the works of Batsheva's. he makes more use of the spine, hyper extension and flexion, and ephasizes sensuality which perhaps some posters here may refer to as "fairy".

Billy's probably taken Sonya's choreography and incorporated it into his own style, which is what great dancers do. If this was a routine that required him to be strictly a certain style (like partner routines), then he would conform. However, as it is a solo, he has no need to do so. I personally love his style, and I respect that he sticks with it with confidence and dedication even though it's been attacked a few times by people like HalfAussie...
