  • This was when I was a fan of drake, he still makes ok music but nothing compared to his old stuff

  • @rmsg120nsb Well, please do enlighten me. I am not afraid to admit when I may have missed something. Elzhi is one of my favorite rappers, and he has written some amazingly profound lyrics. These particularly lyrics just seemed fairly straightforward to me. I'm open to hear your interpretation.

  • @PianoGermz The entire 16 bar verse is a metaphor of a girl being a book. Listen to the lines 'so I followed your words to take em in and I don't see what you sayin so you're coming off paper thin' 'do more than look you up and down to try to see if I can read you' 'not just stick my fingers in your middle to get you to spread for me' 'your story took one ugly turn after another' 'I saw we wasn't on the same page, I woulda gave you strong play but your words rubbed me the wrong way'

  • @PianoGermz 'so now I'm closing the case, you only out for the paper back its written all over your face'. He begins and ends with the platitude 'never judge a book by its cover' and weaves references to this extended metaphor throughout, posing getting to know a girl as reading a book, instead of judging it/her based on looks. Elzhi destroyed both of them, thats an insane verse. People just aren't as fond because he doesn't have as much multisyllabic rhymes and punchlines

  • drake used to be illl as fuuuuuuuuck, making dope tracks with good rappers, remixing songs by people that i never heard of (lykke lii, and santos gold) now he is rolling with the wackest crew of rap

  • It's funny because this kills Drakes latest songs. Too bad artists change due to fame.

  • fuk i miss dis shit, cant reali sae ima fan of drizzys nu shit, strait up

  • Dude i cant believe that third verse been out all this time and i never heard it until now

  • I agree!

  • fuck, it would make me extremely happy if drake started working with 9th wonder again...

shout to elzhi tho, check out his album ELmatic, where he does a tribute to Nas' illmatic album, it's fuckin sick

  • For some reason I get super sad when I hear this song...I miss the old Drake!

  • this the Drake that I wanna hear man

  • no SOPA MF DOOM-SUPA

  • /watch?v=JCXE3-gsfcA

  • He was left behind in the track like a bad memory once Phontae got on

  • Phonté killed this. And honestly, Elzhi is top five rapper for me, but he was nothing special on this. I think he actually had the weakest verse. Listen to him on 'Motown 25' for a better idea of his abilities. His cadence was loose, and he hardly dropped any of his characteristic wordplay. Drake's verse was very nice, and he is one of the best mainstream rappers I have heard in a long time. I'm glad that someone in his position still knows great skill, and would hook up with two legit emcees.

  • @PianoGermz he dropped this track in 06 before he blew up

  • @KingJami3 Oh, right on, man. I remember seeing Phonte's interview about this. From what I understand, though, he is restricted from certain collaborations in his contract. He seems to have maintained his respect for Phonte, even now.

  • @PianoGermz el's verse is the deepest from the 3. you wouldn't state that if you understood what his verse is about.

  • BEST SONG BY DRAKE,,EXPLAINS HIS HEART

  • elzhi n phonte's verse murdered this shit, YA'LL CRAZY IF U DIDNT FEEL THAT SHIT

  • Thats a hot beat nice work.

  • @RoninDivineTenken ANITA BAKER-SWEET LOVE

  • @mrguesone you have another who agrees with you. drake def bit on phonte's style.

  • @lukowp You do realise that Phonte is his fav MC?! He even dedicated one of his awards to him!!

  • my favorite mixtape drake song

  • Drake at his best

  • j cole?? oh it was drake

  • @eLZhiDaGr8est you dont know shit about hip hop if you think phonte is Alright that nigga is a beast get that right and drake bite his style alright

  • @eLZhiDaGr8est finally someone who agrees that drizzy bit tigallo's style... prolly why he cut the record with tae off Take Care and didnt get on Charity Starts At Home:.

  • @eLZhiDaGr8est -- dude...phonte is MORE than alright...wtf....

  • I heard this before I knew Elzhi well. Now that I have heard Elmatic I appreciate this track a lot more

  • Anita Baker forever and ever and ever. Sweet Love is the best song to sample EVER, so DOOM and Drake did that shit ..... WELL.

  • @eLZhiDaGr8est phonte and elzhi are both among some of the best mc's in the game. i guess you haven't heard enough of phonte's shit, he has a unique and sick style.

  • Elzhi motherfuckers

  • real hiphop heads know about little brother & slum village, while these new school tyler the creator dickriding faggots who also think wayne is the best rapper of all time only know who Drake is...it's sad really.

  • WHEW! Elzhi's first, i totally needed some old Drake that was actually lyrical. ^_^ FUCK LIL WAYNE for turning him into a YMCMB money hungry faggot.

  • phonte and elzhi on a drake song? WTF

  • @jamekididdleshmiddle drake's dope

  • i luv "both" drakes ... i used to laugh when he called himself yimmie, drake is the dude no matter what message or persona his is givin off

  • Drake used to roll with good rappers?! This comes as a surprise to me.

  • Drake use to kill mics just like this before he became too famous in mainstream, now hes one of the pussiest bitches out there. Its a shame but happens ...

  • Comment removed

  • Elzhi killed this.... anyone who knows Elzhi knows how he be out doing 99.9% of these rappers...

  • MF Doom-Hoe Cakes

  • And now Drake is the total opposite of what his message was on this track lol

  • @PdubzCrew lol what a sellout

  • I've only listened to one track by Drake, after that... I haven't heard much. So it's not my place to say he's good or bad. But based on this track, I have to say he's not that bad. Haven't heard any of his new stuff though. Beat is amazing because I have love Anita Baker and 9th Wonder's beats.

  • @SuperNumber777 Don't lie to yourself . ;)

  • why did phonte and elzhi do a track with drake? wish it was just phonte and elzhi.

  • Phonte can sing and rap at a higher level than Drake can. Elzhi is just dope as fuck.

  • i need that instrumental real quick

  • Little Brother! Shit so clean

  • plus, i even think people who come here sayin' drake is on te and el's level never heard of 'em before or simply their lines go over their heads.

  • Drake used to be right on Te and El's level.. fuck man.. aha. he still one of my favorite artist but damnn it would be dope if he went back to his roots

  • First Drake song I'd put on my iPod. MF Doom did.a better job with "Sweet Love" than 9th to imo. Dope song though.

  • drake wants to do a collab with phonte and 9th on his new album but he is restricted by birdman ....-_- wtf. i can tell drake wants to go back to making that good feel good rap music but now mainstream has a grip on him, literally. "no collabs with backpack rappers" - birdman and wayne. its a shame...

  • /watch?v=KtYt_JuLnNw

  • haha man Drake was ILL as ILL as phonte and elzhi. stop hatin just because he made a fool of himself by signing to young money and becoming a commercial piece of shit.

  • You can hear the influence that Phonte has on Drake. Thats pretty cool though. It must be a dream-come-true to rap along side your favorite rapper. Great song in its entirety. All mc's went hard.

  • YESSSSS !!!

  • elmatic

  • Drake was good, Phonte was great, and Elzhi just 187ed the beat. But Anita Baker's ad libs made the song for me. I'm in love. SWEET LOVE. lol

  • EL KILLED THESE NIGGAZ MUCH LOVE FROM FAR ROCK

  • It's a shame when your features rip your own track better than you.

  • @scnupe7 Lol! That's what I always say when I listen to this song.

  • @scnupe7 dude, it happens all the time in hip hop. jay does it every song he's featured on.

  • @scnupe7 That's pretty wack when people hold that against rappers. You suppose to do songs with people that could possibly kill you. Show respect for him not being scared to go on a track with Phonte and Elz. They both are known to beast tracks. You stay stagnant doing songs with niggas you could kill or better than.

  • Man Phonte is always a good listen

  • Thumbs up if you're mad that there is no more Slum Village

  • @dejataneriajasmine Elzhi goes hard AS FUCK!

  • Elzhi kinda didn't make it worth the wait

  • @tonylove16 els verse was dope man get outta here

  • Thumbs up if you've heard the DOOM song with this sample! SUPAH!!

  • @XcavatorBeats DOOM IS NUMBER ONE IN THE BIZ

  • @XcavatorBeats Hoe Cakes?

  • Drake could not hold a candle to these dudes.

he couldnt even shine their shoes on this track.

  • @hiphopfanatic101 do you rap? i would love to hear, and tell you why youre NOT famous. while you steady scratchin youre head like, WHYYYYY?

  • omg its finally the full version, thank u so much, my ears thank you :-)

  • hot track

  • I still fuck wit Drake, but hearing this makes me nostalgic for the old Drake

  • Ok when he's like we know what your thinking love, what is he saying in the background is he saying na-na or something? lolz someone tell me please

  • @JaslenaLove he's saying "yeah man".... listen to the ORIGINAL version of closer to my dreams. he talks about it

  • and because i was out of room, to continue my theory. underground rappers all rap as fast as they can without pausing at all, without using pitch and tone to their advantage. its all monotone. they all sound the same. take big sean for example. that nigga switches his tone. and thats whats all the hype is about. lil wayne puts phenomenal emphasis and emotion into his bars. lil b acts arrogant on purpose. THERES REASON WHY PEOPLE ARE FAMOUS AND YOURE NOT. and that reason is. you make excuses.

  • @iamworriedsick lol theres no reason to have a youtube debate with you, seeing as a couple of people already responded to you....im not being defense, im just labelin you becuz you set your self up for it, and your label is ignorant, i have a very good perspective of both mainstream and underground so im not biased because of my preference, its because i have more then one true reasonable perspective of both, and you dont.. just simply by what you said and your examples lol,..so please just shhh

  • @rmsg120nsb your logic is sad. if someone WANTS fame. they will WORK HARD, and ACHIEVE their GOAL. drake wants to be an artist, there for he is one. idc how much money he already has this nigga does work. and "underground" rappers are "underground" because they despise commercial music, or they dont work hard enough to blossom. drake is one of the best along with wiz and thats because they aint rapping, they making music. they use their voice as instumental on the beat. underground rappers dont.

  • @iamworriedsick wtf are you talking about?!?!? A lot of underground artist make good amount of money, its not about the fame is about the quality work they want to give to their fans. The Foreign Exchange, Mayer Hawthorne, Aloe Blacc, Doom, Atmosphere, Buckshot, Immortal Technique, The Beat Junkies, Eligh & The Grouch, P.O.S, And Madlib/Lord Quas are just a few artists who are either signed with a indie label or are straight Independent. Its never about quantity is a about quality!!

  • @Veinoner and when you turn thirty my dude its about paying the bills. Quality / The Art its like people want you to be the same for years while they grow up and get "real" jobs and criticize people living the dream on YouTube. What part of the game is that my ninja ?

  • I Miss his old music :(

  • Elzhi's plain genius

  • dang... all his songs now are bout drinking and extreme cockiness.... wonder if he feels like a hypocrite. i still love him tho. even tho he changed he still murders every raper to have ever lived.

  • 'gh;pjo;fgyopiuliogy

  • i love 9ths but i like dooms sample better

  • This song is good.

  • Nobody can do what Phonte does on a mic. Rap - Lies = HipHop

  • yo he got the sample part from a MF doom beat hoe cakes

  • One of my favorite lines was Phonte

"I'm well red/read like sunburn" That is the perfect double Entendre.

  • BROOOO!!!!!!! i FINALLY get to hear the whole version of the song !!!! used to always wonder what elzhis vers sounded like and never thought to just you tube it. lol

but really drake needs to make more songs like this

  • @nesta1951 These days of drake music are gone forever :(

  • damn elzhi lol crazy verse

  • MF DOOM uses this instrumental for kookies

  • @4playin69 NO hoe cakes

  • i guess he finally paid 9th for the beat.. lol

  • this nigga 9th wonder is fucking crazy..... like he doesnt have bad songs...

  • Yo wats the original name of the beat ?

  • @xXNist869 anita baker sweet love one of the best r&b songs of my lifetime.

  • If Nas is Godson Elzhi is his nephew lol

  • @KevinTheVillian defntly

  • budd yuue doan knoo me likke yuue think yuue knoo me!

  • You see 9thwonder brings out the best in people, i used to hate drake! but when i herd this.. and hes done some shit with 9th.... he gets the aproval just a shame he took the path of big money and some dickhead called lil winey (wayne)

  • haha whoa, a wild group of hipsters appears!

  • Elzhi dumbeded it down? not much if any. He outshines everyone on the track!? Hell nah Phonte's verse was absolute crack.

  • Elzhi is too nice for mainstream radio heads

  • Elzhi dumbed his verse down SO MUCH, and he still outshines the rest on the track

  • where'd u find this full version man?

  • ELZHI !!!!!!

  • k9iji7t56dfd2Qrtrdyui;o0=]-98769iogtrxzswA

sorry trying to wipe my jizz off of my keyboard

  • Some of the words in the lyrics are off.

  • one question to ask to all haters. If Drake would've signed with anybody other then cash money and still make the same music he makes now would yall still say he sucks or do yall just hate lil wayne that much?

  • @fordatimebeing nah cuz my dude he trys to be like wayne too much you know. its like get off that niggas dick and talk about yourself, he has potential but now hes on young moneys dick too much feel me!

  • @fordatimebeing We'd say he's good

  • i think drake was and is good but not that good. i would say he's overrated. elzhi and phonte are two examples of skilled beautiful music makers, both(especially el) don't get the props they deserve though. underground mc's always had to work twice as hard, to get half of the respect, it's sad.

  • @rmsg120nsb drake is corny. he was talented but he absolutely copies lil wayne and has become so cliche. I am not someone that likes underground rappers just because they are underground i would like to like drake be good but he copied phontes flow blatently and now he is copying everything about lil wayne.

  • @rmsg120nsb fuck that, Drakes on an entirely different level than elzhi and phonte. Drake is THEE BEST...

  • @rizowilson if that's your opinion, i won't judge you for that. my ears tell me at least eLZhi can rhyme circles around him 'till diggin' holes on the floor though, just sayin'.

  • @rizowilson L O L

  • @rmsg120nsb -Skilled Emcees are usually not the fan faves..they are "YOUR FAVORITE RAPPERS....FAVORITE RAPPER...TOO DEEP FOR THE AVERAGE "EAR" TO RELATE TOO WITHOUT SOMEONE TO BREAK DOWN VERSES FOR THEM...SAD BUT TRUE...PHONTE AND ELZHI ARE UNDERRATED

  • *Sigh* what a shame..why won't drake leave young money like curren$y did, and start rapping with actual rappers..like damn so sad..o well what can ya do lol

  • he had that old school fresh vibe. type of music you can bump crusin around in autum around the city. hes still a good rapper but his sound hasnt improved, too pop

  • elzhis that dude

  • Drake got lyrics but he on the radio wit sum bullshit... can't knock him for wantin to get paid tho

  • Listen here scooter , never try bag you . When she's on the rag never let her fry the ragu .

  • fuck i've been trying to find the full version for a while thanks for posting this!!!! drake has sold out of course but honestly i cant help but just listen to his old mixtapes

  • @mario2164 what the fuck are you talking about? hahah the economy doesnt have anything to do with the music now adays being so shitty all the suckass mainstream artist already have enough money to quit their jobs and not work another day. so how does money have anything to do with it? lil wayne has millions, drake has millions, solja boi has millions, tpain has millions so what are you talking about since the eco is so bad its all about making money and theyll get better at music?

  • Elzhi is a muthafuckin MONSTA!!!!

  • this is when drake had some REAL shit. and was truly changing hip hop.....he fell off of that pace

  • i really love this song, and i like sweet love in the background

  • wow for how much i actually hate drake... this isn't quite so bad...

  • @amaru59fong

listen to all of his old tapes... he was lyrical back then lol

    comeback season

    room for improvement

  • @amaru59fong Cause this is his Golden days back When he messed with Dilla & other Great producer , now he messes with wayne and them , i still like his music now but i LOVE his music back then aha just shows the fact on who Labels use you , wayne and baby need him to keep making THEIR hits with his HOOKS & Ghost Writting.

  • @RxRICHKIDz this wasnt back in the golden days? the golden era was in the 90s are you aware of what your talking about?

  • @razilleD i said HIS golden days , not Music its self lol

  • @RxRICHKIDz oh i see. when you said golden days automatically thought of the 90s. and wouldnt you say his golden days are today since hes making a shit load of money compared to what he was making when he made this?

  • @razilleD i mean sure but i meant Music/Production wise not money wise , honestly Drake is a good artist , his flows were insane back then , his flows are still good now but i'd rather listen to the old drake then the new Mainstream Drake. Just cause he didnt talk about the same shit other artists talks about .

  • @RxRICHKIDz yeah man i understand he was better before but comon we cant be that selffish because to drake were just all people and to him hes his own person and hes doing whats best for him alot of hiphop heads dont get that. you can call it selling your soul or he sold out but in reality hes looking out for whats best for him and how he can make money because beleive it or not money is more important than making music that your fans like but wont sell as much. what would you do for millions?

  • @razilleD Naw, you got it fucking twisted you twisted FUCK! You should get into the blender and find yourself, cause you too me, and I'm sure everyone else, sound like Scrambled Eggs. Except your missing anything flavourful, and you don't understand shit about Life. Even though you think you know what you Speak out your ass.

  • @Altecreturn666 no man fuck you.your a peice of shit who just found out about drakes real songs and just started listening to real rap and hip hop so shut the fuck up,you dick lickin trick. im not even going to waste my time commenting after this because your a lonely loser with absolutely no friends you dont go to partys and your a virgin so i think you should put your nuts(if you have any) in a blender. then jump into the ocean and let a blue whale swallow you so we dont have to hear your shit

  • @razilleD Yeah i cant be mad at him for trying to get his paper lol

  • This must immediately be renamed to Phonte and Elzhi ft Drake

  • I LOVE DRAKE THATS MY NIGGA!

  • Everybody look up Image - FL Hip Hop Live Contest Entry and vote for me!!

  • Damn!!! This is back when Drake was actually respectable and worth listening to. He's not worth listening to now what that nagging ass whining ass voice. That commercial shit sucks.

  • @desertfox2k3 wordyo, and niggas want to play that "hater" card on us, they can't handle the fact that their boy Drake fell off, his new album sucked

  • this song is a banger...didnt have much respect for Drake before hearing this and some of his other old stuff which is way better than the direction he's been heading with his music in the mainstream, which i dont necessarily mind as long as it's done right, but that said he is def overrated good but highly overrated

  • I am mind-blown by El's verse. Used a book as a metaphor through his whole verse. That's the lyricism, orginality, and creativity that hip-hop lacks today. Kudos to 9th, Drizzy, Phonte, and Elzhi for this masterpiece.

  • lol elzhi murdered this shit sounds like he talking bout drake saying he read him like a book and that he knew he would sell out

  • @tray99998 "Not just stick my fingers in your middle to get you to spread for me"

    yeah?

  • @parnowihavetogoblind its like some double meaning shit but elzhi verse is mostly about a rapper who is gonna sell out and hes comparing the rapper to a book that he could read very clever verse

  • @tray99998 why is everyone so quick to holler "sell out"? would you rather people stay broke forever?
