  • very nice, Mr Featureman! Thank you for bringing a bit of sun to my cloudy afternoon. Greetings from Europe!

  • @wyrusssssss Thank you. I wish you great success with the music and more sunshine.

  • Yes, the famous 1-6-4-5 in the key of C.

  • @cocobrother That is it. Many songs used that pattern. Thanks.

  • I'm very happy that I found your video. Thanks to this, I'm off to a good start playing boogie piano. :)

  • @18Musicguy Good. Have fun playing Boogie. Thanks for the comment.

  • why did u used sharps on a c major scale???

  • @bboyfabolous1994 I use what sounds best for me. There are many different ways to do a basic Boogie. Thanks.

  • Try tune the piano that will help no end

  • I don't suppose you could do a tutorial on "Always look on the bright side of life", could you?

  • @rhino787 No. That was written in 1979 and it is a published song. I do only originals and public domain songs for legal reasons. Thanks.

  • Thanks .. Now I am encouraged to learn the piano !

  • @royerikson Do it. You can play piano and have lots of fun. Thanks.

  • This is great, I've even impressed my piano teacher and gives us something to sink our teeth into . Thanks.

  • @mrbwdjr01 Thanks. Have fun with the music.

  • sounds like walking in memphis

  • @qwentin355 Thanks. It is probably the same chord structure. Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and Whole Lotta Shakin and many songs have similar chord patterns but slightly different tunes and different words. Thanks.

  • WOW i can do that!

  • @buyokoy I knew you could. Thanks.

  • You are a great teacher, I went through tutorials 1-4 today and I've already impressed my doubting friends- I only got my keyboard yesterday! I'm going to watch all of your tutorials a few times through; you are the best youtube teacher I've found so far, thanks a bunch! x

  • @shuttie92 Thanks.

  • 5 ppl don't like boogie...

    Great tutorial... thx! :)

  • @IntenseDarknessable Thanks. We shall have to find those five people and boogielize them.

  • 5 ppl don't like boogie..

  • you should sing more often your voice is incredible! but your hands look like they are in pain :/

  • @djsylert Thanks. No pain in my hands. I have about 250 videos up here and there are many where I sing. You might like The Noah Song or Rock and Roll Depression Boogie.

  • you should sing more often your voice is incredible!

  • I'm curious . . . when playing, if you start with your right thumb on middle C (or any C) why wouldn't you teach folks to play c-e-g, then c-e-a (with pinky), then play c-f-a, then b-d-g. It requires the least amount of hand movement . . .

These tutorials are neat, but I would caution anybody serious about learning to play. You can't reach the level of mastery that Tom W has without 'real' lessons -- but these are a great supplement!

  • @kgbelanger1 Thanks. No person needs real lessons to learn to play like Tom Willet. I am Tom Willett so I know Tom Willett well. Tom Willett learned without any lessons and with no teacher or books. The fingering can be done many ways as I show in many of the tutorials. If someone wants to read music they will need to learn more than I am showing them with the tutorials.

  • Ok tom thanks for all your help

  • Thank you Tom i am just starting to play the key board and out of all the videos on you tube i find your lessons the best to understand. But i am finding it quite hard to get my left hand going i sometimes feel like giving up i am very impatient . i have only been playing 2 months but i wont to play everything now i love boogie woogie any way thanks tom you are a great help.

  • @LTHUTO Thanks. Your mind will learn before your hands. Just play very slowly and then faster and faster during your practice sessions.

  • dude ur a awesome teacher thnx! :D

easily explained and easy to learn and follow

  • @SlimRamjean Thank you very much. I am glad YouTube is here to give me a chance to share.

  • Great Teacher and great lessons; Thank you so much !!!

  • @TheIssaquah You are very welcome. Thanks.

  • best tutorials on the we, thank you tom! i have some experience on the piano and your chord tutorials have made it easier for me to play songs and catch rhythm! muchas gracias desde chicago! always a fan!

  • @NewYork2Chicago Thank you so much. Have fun with the piano playing.

  • Thank you so much!! Great Lessons

  • @xiaonansheng Thank you.

  • Hey Tom Thank you for all the great lessons on the Web! I think you have a great talent for teaching the keyboard and a great sense of humour! I have learned so much from your lessons as I learn to play. Thank you for taking the time....best wishes from England!!

  • @Toppitmanilikeit Thanks and greetings from Tennessee.

  • you must have played the planenio for a few years sorry for my spelling too. cos your fingers look like you play it alot too.

  • @TheGervarod Thanks. I try to play the piano a little every day. It is good exercise.

  • Thanks alot again, I'm entertaining my family and it only lesson 4 :-)

  • @Larrygallis Have fun as you learn. It is easy to impress the listener by playing piano chords. Thanks.

  • i like playin my bass along to some of the of the parts in this video. thumbs up

  • Bass is great for Boogie. One of my friebds was Cliffie Stone. I interviewed him with a three part video here at YouTube. He played the bass run heard right at the beginning of Smoke Smoke Smoke That Cigarette by Tex Williams. He played on some other hit records. Bass is great.

  • @Featureman awesome ill have to check tht out ive subbed aswell. i dont usually listen to this kind of music but when you played that little boogie i kinda heard the bass line in my head so i tried it out its similar to what you do with your left hand but it seems to fit well.

  • Thanks. You might like Honky Tonk by Bill Doggett. It was a number 1 record back in 1956. It is an instrumental that has a bass as the main instrument but many other instruments join in. There was Part 1 and Part 2. I believe Part 2 was the biggest hit.

  • wow. this hurts your fingers

  • It will get easier with time. Thanks.

  • i dont have a piano or a keyboard, but i use the piano at my my school.... i have been playing the piano for over a year its just hard for me to play everyday, because i can only play it when im at school..... but forsomeone that doesnt havae a keyboard or a piano at home im pretty good.... i enjoy the piano i love i just dont have on...

  • You can learn without always being at the keyboard. I used a sheet of paper with the piano keys drawn on it for practice when I first was learning. Practice in your mind when no piano is nearby. You will learn. Thanks.

  • I made a video response using what I learned in this video! Thanks for making awesome videos!

  • Thank you. I appreciate your response. You play very well.

  • Its nice that you take out your time to teach us.. we really appreciate it and hope there is a lots more to come =)

  • Thank you.

  • thanks for clear explanation ! good job. you already had a fun from Turkey...

  • Thank you so much. I am glad to have a fan in Turkey. The piano is a wonderful instrument which I think most people enjoy.

  • thanks a lot you help me play so much better you have such great smooth moves keep em coming boss !!

  • You are welcome. Thanks for the nice comment.

  • Thank you for your wonderful videos, now i am able to put some chords together and make music. I cannot stop practicing. you are a great teacher.:o)

  • You are very welcome.

  • It's so amazing!Thankyou so much!

  • You are welcome. Thanks for watching.

  • Greetings from Colombia. You are a great teacher. Gracias Maestro!

  • Thanks. Greetings from Tennessee.

  • thanks you have been a huge blessing!! IS there a #3 chord video though?? for some reason it is not popping up.

  • cancel that.. i FOUND it!! :)

  • Yes. Actually I believe there are two versions of Piano Chord Tutorial #3. One is wide screen and the other regular but faster loading. Just put Piano Tutorial 3 in search and my tutorial should come up. Try Piano Chord Tutorial 3 riffs for a more thorough search. You will probably also find it just by searching Google or Yahoo search. It is here at YouTube. You also can click on my user name and search my videos. Thanks.

  • @ 8:55 .. you say C but your right hand is not playing a C ? ... your tumb is on an E .. right ?

  • It is a C chord. Any combination of C-E-G is a C chord. E-G-C is a C chord, G-C-E is a C chord or C-E-G is a C chord. Watch this video at 6:12 or the previous lessons and you will see how the order in which the notes are played can be varied.

  • @Featureman ... thanks .. right after this video , I went and watched your leason 1 video ... just by dumb luck , I came across this video 1st .. lol... great videos by the way !!!!

  • My brother started playing piano at the age of 44, he says he always wanted to learn piano.

Your videos have helped him tremendously.

It's never too late to learn an instrument whether it's piano, guitar etc..

  • Thanks. I am glad the lessons were helpful. It is true that you are never too old to learn something when you want to learn it.

  • Hi Featureman there are lots of teachers on line, you are one of the best.Every time I get mixed up I come back to you and get the help I need.I am 67 yrs young and you open musical doors for me. thank you so very much Bill

  • Thank you. I am always anxious to encourage everyone to try to play music. It took me many years to realize it is not really difficult to play what you want to play if you practice what you want to play. Too many of the old time instructors waste time teaching what a person does not want to know. I try to let the student decide his or her own style and I will concentrate on teaching where the chords are. Thanks again.

  • Thank you for the great lessons. I live in Canada and go to old time barn dances. I was wondering if you could put a lesson together on chording piano with the fiddle. ie. Maple Sugar.. ty again.. Rick

  • Thanks. I have never done piano with fiddle other than swing band and '50s Country music but always with vocals not instrumentals. I would just do the chords with an appropriate rhythm and practice a little beforehand and hope it works. You will surprise yourself at how good you will be if you take a chance and play at the gigs. It will just take some time. Thanks again.

  • lol he can sing also

  • Thanks.

  • Well , Thank You very much Mr. Tom

ur lessons are really helpful :))

But i still have the Same Problem since i was playing the piano when i was 11 years old.

The Problem is that i find it so hard to play with my both hands , i find that my left hand plays as the same as my right hand... I can't control it.

So it is hard to me to switch from C chord to A minor :((

    But anyway Thanks alot :))

  • You are welcome. I would suggest just practice very slowly and very gradually increase your speed.

  • I'm Brazilian and here in Brasil I'm so glad that generos people like you help we learn piano and keyboard so easely. Now I can say that I learned my first rock steps with you. Thank you very much. Many and many people around the world who cannot pay for music lessons love you.

  • Thanks so much. Have fun playing music.

  • thank you so much Tom i cant believe how good im getting in just 2 days . i had my keyboard for almoast 3 yrs and just used it for beats and bass lines or single notes . the built in lessons suck ,but your way of explaining the chords and progressions just clicked in my head and now im getting better each time i play

  • Thank you. I was amazed when I found out how easy it was to duplicate the sounds I heard Jerry Lee and Fats playing years ago when I first discovered chords. It is much easier than learning notes.

  • Awesome!!!! Simple, fun and lot of variations. Thank you , Sir!

  • You are welcome. Have fun with the music.

  • Love your tutorials, you make it look so easy!!! My right and left hands seem to be on a complete different wavelength!!

  • Thanks. That is normal when you are starting. If you practice a little each day you will get better and better and faster and faster.

  • Dear Sir, I am going to be 64 in Nov. My dream in life it to play piano. Self teaching of cause. On teach want to teach an old person like me. I want to thank you for your lessions. Please keep them coming. I was to get it before close curtian call for me. Bless your heart for teaching!!!

  • You will learn if that is your desire. You will learn a lot each day and your hands will get faster. Thanks.

  • Thank you for your encouragement.

  • OMG it's really great! :)

  • Thank you very much.

  • i love ur tutorials i am actually using my keyboard but its hard to get that clingy rhythm... could u show it in a slow way

  • Thanks. I might do some more tutorials someday, but not in the near future.

  • Hi. Thanks. I don't have any lessons on DVD at this time.

  • Hi

i'm 67 years young and your teaching gives me great inspiration to learn.Your teaching method and spirt comes across wonderfully. You are doing a great job of teaching and inspiring. thank you Bill

  • Thank you so much for the nice comment.

  • thanks so much, i'm just 14 and just been playing songs on my own. the way you teach it is so simple and easy. i can play so much more now. thankyou :D

  • You are welcome. Thanks for watching.

  • I was recently thrown out of job. So at the age of 58, I decided to learn the piano from scratch, to prove I can learn something new even at this age. Your teaching style suits me. You have made chords and 2 hands' playing real to me. Your earnestness helps. Thanks:)

  • You are welcome. Good luck with everything and keep learning.

  • thanks alot, this helps me a lot!

  • Great. Thanks.

  • thank you so much for this! you're a great teacher! =]]

  • Thanks. Have fun playing the keyboard.

  • I really enjoy your teaching! I've been playing piano for years, and always wanted to know how to chord. Even though it's for people who don't play, i still am learning A LOT from it! Thank you so much, and God bless! :)

  • Thanks so much.

  • im a guitarist but because of ur video it makes me play piano/keyboard.

  • Thanks. It is great to play both.

  • Good WOrk

  • Thanks a lot.

  • Nice!, I like your tutorial, I've just started watching them, they are awesome!, I've learnt some new, moves, not that I knew many, I'm just a begginer, but even though I've learned I could play most of your moves, till here. Thanks!

  • Thank you very much.

  • not bad, not bad at all, I've learned to play 2 hands somehow thx to this vids... getting better at piano is just practice right?

  • That is it. If you practice you will learn things nobody teaches you. You have the music inside yourself that is yours alone. Just practice and your hands will learn what is in your mind.

  • THX...I'm kinda old though to learn piano, I'm 18, I was playing guitar but became good somehow and got bored... do you think I can still learn new skills on piano? anyway I have somewhat a background in music or something like that.

  • 18 and old have never been used in the same sentence before. I learned without any teacher or books after I was 20 when I started working in a furniture warehouse after I got out of the Army. They had pianos in the basement. I learned because I had access to pianos and the desire to learn. Guitar I learned at age 30. Just chords. That is all I wanted to know. You will do fine.

  • so the key is the will to learn more huh!? THX sir...

  • I think that is the main thing. It is good to have a keyboard and some spare time. I actually used a drawing of a keyboard to practice on for about six months one time when I did not have a piano. I also found myself practicing in my sleep at times. It will take awhile for your fingers to catch up with your mind, but they will. Thanks.

  • I've been watching your tutorials, Tom. I don't play but always wish I had. I play flute instead and better by ear than reading music. I may want to go to the toy section of a store now for a keyboard. LOL really great

  • I had a toy mechanical piano once that actually sounded very good. I do recommend at least 4 but preferably 5 or more octaves electronic MIDI type keyboard. They sound almost like a real piano, plus you can take them to parties or the beach if they work on batteries. Thanks, Susan.

  • This is a really great tutorial, sir! I've been watching your tutorials and I'm really learning a lot. I hope you make more of these. Thanks!

  • Thanks. There will be many more.
