People from the country just don't get it. This kind of thing has been happenning since the 80's, hence FarmAid and John Mellencamp "Rain on the Scarecrow". I live in Iowa and the country is still the country. My point is It didn't just happen during the great depression and I think this song is about today's struggles. "5 generations of an unlocked door and a loaded burglar alarm"
