  • that's guts in action

  • The day an 18 year old girl carried America's hopes on one knee.

  • OMG LOOK AT THOSE GLASSES!

  • This is the American dream baby!

  • The chanting near the end did for me. USA! USA! USA!

  • One of the most amazing moments in the Olympics history, no doubt. :) Was she a contender to medal in the all-around if she had not hurt her feet?

  • Comment removed

  • Payson Keeler.

  • She put da team on her back

  • Warrior!

  • I'll never forget this moment. It's definitely one of my favorite memories of the Olympics during my childhood!!! I felt so proud to be American but mostly pride in Kerri.

  • God bless this woman. I remember watching her do this live. I was so proud to have her represent my country.

  • i remember watching this when i was 7 with my mom.

  • she actually tore 2 ligaments in her foot they later found

  • amazing.

  • Kerri has such courage and strength. She went again after a sprain because she knew the first wasn't good enough for the gold... now THAT is heart!

  • @TheRubberDuck77 Actually I read somewhere that that last vault Kerri did wasn't necessary for team USA to win the gold. They would have won anyway. BUT she didn't know it at the time. Still it will go down in history as one of the most memorable Olympic moments.

  • I remember being there and seeing this when it happened. It brought tears to me then and I was overjoyed when she landed it to get the gold. And now it still gives me hope.

  • AWESOME

  • How does this video have 25 dislikes? Obviously not American.

  • @NOSISJR 25 Russians probably LOL !!!

  • I cried, really touching

  • You must read her book! Is soo good it's called landing on my feet by Kerri strug

  • true vault champion. true champion

  • im a level 8 gymnast, this girl has balls,

  • inspiring !!!!!!!

  • that's some epic shit

  • @ThePizzaGuy92 gross talk

  • lovin the 90s haircut!

  • Except it wasn't a "moderate sprain". It was later revealed that she nailed that second vault with two torn ligaments in her left ankle. Amazing. Just amazing.

  • Deserved!

  • I had such a crush on her xD

    She did great though!

  • Cue the waterworks.

  • This is what it truly means to never give up despite injury or no matter what!!! This is a lesson in courage for everyone!!! Losers quit, but True Winners overcome and prevail against all odds!!! Thank You Ms. Strug!!!

  • This actually inspired me after watching this. Also what brought this inspiration here is form a great tv show "Make it or Break it". My breath was caught.

  • What a fantastic gymnast! when i saw this i cried i was so amazed :) well done kerri Strung you inspire everyone even today <3 we all love u!

  • Whenever i need inspiration or motivation i turn to this video...

  • I remember these games! And Kerri strug topped off the moment!

  • omg i cried and im a cheerleader so this is really inspirational

  • the mark of a champion...getting it done when you need to do it

  • alex4011: Note: It's "Your" grammar is a mess; not Youre. When you aim to criticize someone's grammar, do it correctly idiot.

  • Talk about pressure...

  • What I find absolutely distasteful is that out of 1600 comments, 22 people decided to dislike this video. Why? This is one of the most inspirational videos of someone persevering through injury in sports history. I don't care if you are Russian, Chinese, French, or any other nationality, this is what inspiration and perseverance is all about!

  • @wheelieguy People dislike videos for random reasons. It could even be unrelated to the content. Maybe they disliked because of the video quality or that they had an extra 1-2 minutes afterwards.

Just don't let it get to you too badly.

  • Comment removed

  • AMAZING!! This is like the season 2 finale of the ABC Family show "Make It or Break It". I wonder how she did that? It must have hurt so much.

  • Poor Kerri. White people are a mess. But, I love their drive. Y'all a mess. Good job Kerri LOL

  • @tasceaie1493 ikr and dont have to get paid to do a good job,,

  • @mmoran3 And what the hell does this mean?

  • @tasceaie1493 Youre grammar is a mess.

  • @tasceaie1493 HAHAHHA that comment.

  • @tasceaie1493 What the hell does this mean?

  • Amazing!!

  • For those who don't know, her ankle was hurt beforehand. She was vaulting on an injured ankle. The last vault was the nail in the coffin.

  • Jesus, phenomenal. Imagine the amount of energy used to perform on that ankle.

  • I'm here because of Make ir or Break it! after they mentioned this when Payson did it at worlds

  • @TheSallyann123 Same here!

  • That year, American doping and medicine won. To bad the budget was all gone before they could develop a pretty pill.

  • WOW I have goosebumps all over my body I still remember that day as it yesterday what a great moment and what a team Kerri is the hero of that time

  • Not only did she have a sprained ankle, she lands on one fucking leg. Amazing.

  • @KJasian Do you have to curse towards a great sport?

  • I'm here because of achievement hunter..

  • @sw204me As am I

  • @sw204me ??????

  • just when she lands listen for a snap

  • 2:43 Upskirt

  • Acheivement HORSE :)

  • @NothingFi AHAHAHAHA im not the only one xD screw you jack..

  • @TheLakehawk Gross and does not make sense

  • Shes going to come to my gymnastics on Friday!!! Cant wait!!!

  • WOW! I so rmbr watching this w my lil sister back in the mid 90's...we loved Dominique, Shannon, and Kerri who was to be the look-a-like Mary Lou Retton. Why doesn't Gymnatics make a comeback to mainstream sports on TV?

  • This has to be one of my all time greatest olympic moment. Way to go keri, go teamUSA!

  • Don't know what to say other than WOW

  • awr oor girl she hurt her ancle but it was a nice landing

  • You spelled Atlanta wrong

  • Wow she is amazing and a well deserved gold medal!

  • Reminds me of Make it or Break it.

  • probably my most vivid american olympic moment. she stuck that mother fucker on a broken ankle

  • @gomarcphil What trash talks like this?

  • @Rasperry97 what are you talking about trash? lol you've never read a curse word before? I just said that this was probably my favorite Olympic moment of all time? what about that do you not understand

  • 20 people are bitter Russians and Romanians.

  • oh what self centered people there are here. i think this video is absolutely amazing and so inspirational. it wouldnt be so popular and mean so much to everything if it was "just another injury"

  • Didnt she break her ankle?

  • so.....what's so cool about this? Lots of athletes compete with injuries...fucking cool.

  • @dddrumddd - uh because if she didn't land that vault USA wouldn't have won. She was the last one to go for us and the other country which was close behind had a roster of people still competing. That vault basically secured the gold medal to where the other countries were only competing for silver and bronze after that. Had she not landed that the other countries would've still had a chance to bump the USA out of gold.

  • @dddrumddd It's because it was the Olympics. Nobody would've paid attention if this was just a local competition. She not only did this for herself, she did it for her team and for her country. She showed the world what America was made of. And you have to imagine, the routine that she did was all her legs. She had to run, jump, twist, and land perfectly.

  • @dddrumddd Stupid person!

  • I was 9 when this Olympics was going on. I believe I watched this live, but not entirely positive. It's an amazing moment to watch whether you watch it live or years later.

  • nothing like watching it live, nothing like watching it live... stop rubbing it in my face! lol. i wish i saw this live... but i was 9 months old then.

  • i remember watching this live in my home country (Barbados) when i was ten, and i was so inspired by this girl doing this amazing thing, and making it even more amazing. anytime i need to be reminded of the awesome potential us human beings have, i think of this. and i too cried when i watched this live...i didnt cry now tho, it just gave me goosebumps.

  • Terrible!!! Poor Kerri!!!!

  • omg the commentators can be so annoying... "kerri strug is hurt! kerri strug is hurt!" no kidding

  • I cried when I saw this live, and cried again watching it just now. Kerri Strug is the kind of person who kids should look up to instead of all these millionaire athletes who whine over a hair being out of place.

  • @The1stFringeElement I can't help but at least tear up, if not actually cry, every time I see this. It never gets old.

  • @The1stFringeElement i cry when i bust a nut too

  • There was nothing like watching this live! Such a wonderful moment!! Wow watching this again after all these years brings tears to my eyes

  • There was nothing like watching this live! Such a wonderful moment!!

  • @CranberriAppl AMEn and i love all the comments good and bad but im glad i was watching this in 96 and experienced the feeling when it happened ,, what a great feeling !!!! i wouldent trade it for anything

  • Her mother looks like a blond Church Lady.

  • Love it, but John Tesh is so damn dramatic!

  • Courage comes in all sizes. Nothing tops this. God bless Kerri Strug!

  • woah. she sprained her ankles, hobbled back calmly, and landed it on 1 foot?! what a badass

  • fanaminal i loved it u r my insperation!!!

  • kerri strug is my idol. anyone know if shes gonn b at the visa championships as a commentator or something this yr?

  • @gymnast5601 I actually got to meet her at a local gymnastics meet, one of the best moments of my life cause she is my idol too!!

  • @theaterqueen95 LUCKKKKKKKYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @gymnast5601 LOL ikr?

  • poor kerri:(

  • the 20 people that didn't like this must be russian

  • @CarmenSanDiegoWorld how cool. I was about 11! and I agree about what you said!

  • I remember watching this live. This is the most inspirational moment ever in any sport in my opinion

  • Wow Kerri Strug is so cool!!! I Loved her book and I want to be Like her!!! And she Did it with a sprained ankle she,s one of my favorite gymnasts!!!

  • I watched this after watching Make it or break it and this video almost made me cry.

  • Is it just me or did someone yell out one foot

  • i remember this,,, i dindnt even liked gymnastics and this seemed intresting and fun

  • i had seen this and then saw make it or break it. omg i felt so smart. lol

  • Comment removed

  • awww make it or break it gave her a tribute episode....awesome.

  • she looks so scared..

  • I thought she actually broke her ankle or was it just a sprain??

  • It was a sprain- actually sprains hurt MUCH worse than actually breaking your ankle. Hate to say I know from experience cause I've done both...

  • @AirJuvi43 Oh ok--and im sorry that has happened to you i know it must suck!!

  • clutch

  • It took them like... half a minute to get to her. They knew she was hurt... they should have been there within seconds lol.

  • Men or women? Looks like John forgot about the 1984 mens team.....

  • @makT890 In a "fully attended" Games. USSR-led boycott of the LA Games in 84'.

  • Kerri Strugg's mother has the most enormous non novelty glasses i've ever seen

  • She won the Olympics for them, brought them home the gold because she landed that vault

  • Now, this is a true athlete. The definition of perseverance.

  • I'm surprised this wasn't made into a Disney movie yet

  • @broadwaymelody33 they use this in ABC series make it or break it; search for make it or brake it vault (The Vault of Your Life )

  • @broadwaymelody33 no abc have just made this into a series called make it or break it

  • @broadwaymelody33 They did a version of this in the tv series Mke it or Break it :p

  • @broadwaymelody33 You went and jinxed it.

  • @broadwaymelody33 because it is in Make it or Break it on ABC Family already.

  • @defactowood

Okay, I GET IT!!!!! One person telling me was enough, jeez! xD

  • @broadwaymelody33 Give it time.

  • I remember when she fell down on that first vault I almost cried. Then I saw her limping and I just thought not now not now. When she went for the second vault and landed on one foot I knew she won it for them. It was Kerri Strug who won the team gold for the USA.

  • OMG thats a hero

  • It probably would have been considered far worse if it was a Chinese gymnast, due to the fact that we all know how different their country is when it comes to this sport. They expect far more from the athletes, in general. We can't agree with their tactics, but there is nothing we can do about all that, so why mention it? Just be thankful we live in this country!

  • the fact that she landed that on one leg is crazy to me!

  • (0:10sec)"...a 9.493 to win, it is up to Keri, she's the last to go, she is the only one who can do it"

(0:39sec, vault 1) "...OOOHHHH, three falls in a row for the Americans!!" NO PRESSURE AT ALL KERI, LMBO

I wonder what was going thru her mind...

  • @BaybeeDoll84 They can't hear the commentators, from what I understand.

  • @chrissyjoy08 No they can't hear them; that'd be annoying if they could!! I'm sure she personally already knew it was up to her which is what I was referring to : )

  • I remember I was 9 years old when I was watching this, jumping on the couch when she stuck the landing!

  • face it guys....our American women are made of steel!!!

  • It's interesting to see how the US Media portrays different events. Had this been a Chinese gymnast or a Russian gymnast, the US Media would have claimed "child abuse" by forcing the athlete to vault on an injured foot. Instead they portray it was a heroic act... Interesting...

  • @GymchampZW I know what you are trying to say , But I think she was 18 yrs old.

  • @GymchampZW That's because she wasn't forced to do it. It was her own free will. That's what makes her a champion.

  • @ja11651 Do you know that for fact? But the point I was trying to get across, is that had a chinese or russian girl done the same (and the gymnast had choosen to go on her own) it would have been portrayed as child abuse. And that the coaches should have not let their athlete compete, because of the risk of permanent damange.

  • @GymchampZW It wouldn't have been child abuse. She was 19 years old at the time, and therefore an adult, so she was clear to make her own choices.

  • @ja11651 Actually, her coach said to her (after the first vault) "You can do it, you better do it". However, I agree with the coach's strong encouraging words.

  • i can hardly see, damn 90's video quality

  • @0BustyStClaire0 she faked it!! Right!!! That's why they got an xray and have proof!!

  • Yeah, she "faked" her injury, and then on the next vault she managed to perfectly stick her landing ON ONE FOOT!!!

I'd love to see you try and do that, BitchyStClaire!

  • @0BustyStClaire0 LOL. Yeah. The only reason the USA won is b/c Kerri Strug "faked" her injury. Forget all the great routines and stuck landings prior to this point. And since you seem to have something against the USA and Americans in general, let me remind you that these gymnasts were judged by an INTERNATIONAL panel of judges, where both the high&low scores were thrown out. While the crowd was obviously biased, the judges weren't. The USA won fair and square, without faking or "sympathy votes"

  • lol altanta

  • i like the stereotypical american parents

  • i remember watching this when i was a kid...."oh crap we lost it...oh **** WE WIN!"

  • kerri strug and shawn johnson are so awsome they inspire me

  • @0BustStClaire0 dear kettle, you're black...

  • Below me : your an asshole. Fuck you

  • @0BustyStClaire0 youre the biggest asshole ever. it just goes to show you obvi dont live here. fuck you.

  • @ilyloganh LOL, Americans make me giggle. They think they're so tough...you do realise this is the internet? What are you gonna do, FIND ME?

  • @0BustyStClaire0

Yeah, it's only because this is the internet that you have the guts to say stuff like that. Of course no one is going to find you since no one cares enough to bother.

  • @deepincolour Yeah, I guess I'm smart enough to do that, aren't I? I'm a coward because I don't want a lynch mob to come after me for stating my opinion. I thought you Americans where all about freedom of speech?

  • @0BustyStClaire0 LOL---AT LEAST WE CAN SPELL -------- (It's realize, not realise)

  • @xjcrossx LOL---AT LEAST I HAVE HEALTH CARE -----------(you live in America. That's reason enough to laugh.)

  • @0BustyStClaire0 obviously its the internet. im not fucking stupid. if you think its fake, why are ya watching it? someone isnt too bright.

  • @0BustyStClaire0 look ur so direspectful if u want to say anything say it nicley please or keep it to ur self even tho im not american i think u should never say somthin like that to kerri strug SHE IS A GYMNIST NOT AN ACTOR im from Saudi Arabia an i love Kerri strug and she is american i dont say bad things to them i use my power for good !! i love all un-racest nice americans !!

  • @0BustyStClaire0 are you serious? She was a kid! She didn't fake it. I don't understand why people can't except, embrace, and appreciate something of quality when it happens. Shrug sucked it up and won it for her team. One of the best moments in sports history.

  • @0BustyStClaire0 LOL and all the doctors were in on it,, the whole thing was planned,, damn your good and to think all this time i throught it was real,, wow im glad you uncovered the whole story 15 years later!!!! ever thought of going into CSI ?

  • @mmoran3 Why yes. I have. I've also thought about unicorn farming.

  • I always come back to this video when I need inspiration to study hard so I can get in med school.

  • @burtismith guess what? nobody cares.
