2 quality boxers here. That shot was outside of Toneys field of vision. He simpld didn't see it. Johnson just got a nice, over the top 12 year jail term for fraud.
What a nice shot! He set it up with the straight left to the body from the same angle a few seconds before that. Beautiful body shots by Reggie Johnson too. He was a great fighter.
I think it was few days after Reggie Johnson defeated Steve Collins for the vacant WBA belt when Toney went 12 hard rounds with Mike McCallum that ended in a draw, most pundits thought Toney won and demanded a rematch, funny nobody ask for a Toney-Johnson rematch even though so many thinks Reggie beats Toney.
And they say Roy fought bums looking at this Reggie was no push over and he destroyed Both Johnson and Toney. The best P4P fighter at that time was Jones no Doubt.
Reggie was on the bad end of about 4 of his losses not including this one! This guy had skills and an iron chin that was never mentioned. He was never floored until he fought a peak Roy Jones when he was way on the downside of his career.
Julian Jackson would KO both, there was talk of a Jackson-Reggie Johnson match up following the hawk's loss to McClellan but Reggie got beaten by a Jackson namesake John David.
Look, like him or not James Toney is a beast and future hall of famer. Who the hell ever looked good against Roy in his prime???? Hmmm??? Everyone looses fights, except Marciano and he never faced an elite fighter in their PRIME, EVER!!! Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach said James Toney had the best skill set of any fighter he ever trained. Apparently some of you gentlemen know better than Mr.Roach.
Prime Jones looked Shit against a green Hopkins, he didn't land one power punch all night, just 12 boring rounds of jabs. Hopkins even won 4 of the last 8 rounds.
Wtf?!? He sure did, and hopkins face was swollen at the end of that fight....I promise watch it again....hopkins never looked so beat up before or ever again
By the way that "green" hopkins went undefeated for 10 years after that lol
This fight was in 1993, in 1995 Hopkins was knocked down twice in his fight againts that bum Mercado (who had lost 8 fights), Hopkins was no where near prime until he was 36 onwards. Age has nothing to do with Hopkins being prime. The way he fights with experience, he is better now than he ever was.
@imperialpod more like he lost his confidence in his reflexes and abilities after a couple of devastating KOs. being seriously hurt in the ring can do that to a fighter. even hector camacho used to be pretty aggressive until the rosario fight made him rearrange his priorities in life.
Nigel Benn would knock out Toney?! Are you on about the same Nigel Benn that got knocked out by Watson, Collins x2 & Eubank? Lmao! Why do you all go on about Benn?! Why don't any1 rate Collins? I think he was great, beat Eubank twice (1st to do so) & Knocked Benn out twice. Steve Collins is a badman!
It's a shame all of these didn't fight each at the right time. I agree with jahdanza Collins was a HARD, man but he did fight Benn and Eubank past their prime - but i'm not saying that he wouldn't beat em (who knows) but they would have been 'Super Bouts'. If only Tony, Jones Jnr, McClenan etc.. and the Brit pack - Benn, Eubank, Collins etc.. all fought each back to back-it could of been another golden era for boxing. I have utmost respect for them all as fighters/boxers.
James Toney is shit? Wtf you on? Silly little armchair warriors, look at his record 70W 6L 3D
& that's against the very best there has been from the 90's to the present day & he is only 5ft10, He has a fucking great chin, heart etc. How dare you little mugs even have the cheek to disrespect such a athlete. Tell you what i will pay your sorry ass to walk upto Toney & tell him face 2 face he is shit, a steroid abuser & a fat fuck.
The best there has been from the 90s on? When was that exactly? When he was being outboxed by Nunn, when he looked like crap against Jones, when he was losing twice to Griffin, when he was getting gift decisions against Tiberi and Johnson or when he morphed into a fat and punch drunk heavyweight?
And how many athletes in history have been busted for taking horse steroids?
Yea, I agree with you. Toney is somewhat hyped. He got lucky against Nunn and couldn't fight to save his life against RJJ and Griffin beat him twice and FAIRLY, no matter what those idiot buffoons Lampley and Merchant say!:@
Reggie Johnson is not popular in Norway. Why? Before the fight with our beloved Ole Klemetsen, Ole's father (also his manager) taunted Reggie singing "Bye bye Reggie goodbye!" and then Johnson jumped at him as he and his entourage were passing thru. It was a rumble and poor Ole and his dad got the worst of it.:P Reggie went on to win on points.
Hiii.....Its Gabriella, a honest and down to earth woman who wants to meet new guys for dating etc if u fancy a trial run with me heheheh catch me on Play-Cam (.COM)

A few years ago on Friday Night Fights James Toney said the hardest punch he ever took was from Merqui Sosa, and that it took him several rounds to shake out the cobwebs. But damn, I can't imagine him more hurt against Sosa than he was here. Other than being wobbled by Sam Peter, I've never seen him like this.
Also against Iran Barkley. He said he never thought someone could hit so hard. The funny thing was though that he absolutely dominated Barkley with his superior craft. For everyone that whines about Toney being arrogant, who cares? He is a boxer, not a saint. Admire him for his boxing skill not for his demeanor.
Gotta lotta respect for Toney, he just chills throughout his fights, he aint in no hurry, though sometimes to his detriment.
Amazing to, Barkley was a HUGE banger but got absolutely destroyed by a bigger banger in Nigel Benn. Shame Toney vs Benn didn't happen, though Eubank vs Toney almost did.
I was told that in 2000-2002 Toney and Eubank were signed to fight at cruiser but Toney decided that he would get more if he fought at heavy and not cruiser as was intended, hence his steroid use. The fight was cancelled in its infancy.
It matters not, both men SHOULD have met at middle weight when they were both young, strong and hungry, shame!
Imperial did you know that Chris Eubank's ducked rjjr and he even said it in a interview, saying that he didn't fight him because he knew he could not beat him. It was a business move. Although he said he would take him to his limit, and roy would probably not be the same afterwards. But he said Roy would beat him. Money was offered to these guys to fight him. Some declined, some it was not enough, some had their own thing going on, some could not reconcile.
i thought as much, but obviously couldnt make my own judgement as this is the only round ive seen, but judges are a bit weird, i mean whitaker and emanuel augustus know about robberys, same as hagler (in my opinion) but yeah, i was just curious because toney really got nailed in this round, and reggie johnson is a beast :)
who won this fight in everyones opinion? i think it would of been very close, as it was a SD for toney, but because i havent seen it i wouldnt really know, just got to say it could of gone either way judging by the score cards (115-112, 114-113, 113-114) someone get back to me on that, cheers :)

The Roy loss was not controversial. Why do you figure he was more weight-drained from that fight than any other? Roy was just a bad matchup for him and a better fighter. Roy was untouchable in his prime, arguably the most skilled boxer ever.
Most skilled fighter ever? Is that a joke? Roy wasn't that skilled at all, he just had incredible physical gifts that allowed him to outwork the competition. Once his physical gifts were gone, he got KTFO in the 2nd round.
Yeah I agree, if Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant or Michael Vick just had a little boxing training they would be world class and embarass the top fighters in the world just because they're better athletes, right? Idiot.
The 1st 2 draws were controversial, he should have won, he avenged them, the no contest was a joke and the draw with Rahman I didn't see so can't comment on, but he landed more and maybe the draw was best, if he had of been in shape he would have beaten Rahman easily.
i was hoping that peter would knock out toney like he knocked out williams. his punches obviously got to toney tho, cause he was slurring badly after the fight.
excuses. toney is classless and is unable to admit it when he gets beat. according to toney hes never lost a fight and its obvious he has, oh but he has this excuse and that excuse. how bout hes fat and lazy.
If you look at Toneys losses there is always controversy, the loss to Roy he was badly weight drained and was obviously a dead man walking that night, then he lost two bad decisions to Montell Griffin and a Majority Decision to a journeyman/contender because he was just out of shape and got outworked against Drake Thadzi plus then the robbery vs Peter.
Thats because Jones beat an OLD McCallum and a shit Hopkins, infact Hopkins has always been shit but, Roy did whip Toney fair and square and deserves respect for that.
Shame he didn't have the balls to face Benn, coulda got alot more respect that he eventually did.
Imperial, taking out your ass about things you don't know doesn't make you knowledgeable about boxing. Jones didn't beat a shit Hopkins. They were the best middles in the division and were fighting for Toney's vacant title. Hopkins was awesome at that time exhibiting his power more often than now. He just got beat by the better man. In any case, that wasn't roys prime weight, which was 168. And Benn was doing his own thing, money was offered to him, but he had other manners to attend to.
How was Roy supposed to fight Benn, when he was just coming up at the time. And when at super middle weight, Benn had his fight with G-Man, which he was never the same afterwards? Roy would beat Benn, he doesn't have the style to bother him. A better fight would've been Roy vs Michael Nunn, but toney KO'D him. Nunn had the style to be big trouble for Roy. Fights didn't go off, because of many factors, there is no one person to blame.
But you are a Rjjr hater so it doesn't matter anyways.
robbery? it was a close fight but not a robbery. this is what ruins boxing is when people claim robbery when its not. it was a close fight, so sam beat him down the second fight and left no doubts.
Reggie set that knock down up with feints and body shots, Toney thought another body shot was coming because Reggie dropped his left just before he threw it.
I think Toney will be tested by Samuel Peter's power on Sept. 2. I'm not saying Peter will win, I'm saying Toney will feel those shots like never before.
Toney's "knockdown" resulted from being off-balanced after showboating as Roy lunged forward. Yes, technically, it was scored a knockdown because Roy's glove made contact and Toney's glove touched the canvas, but it wasn't anything to get excited about. Toney wasn't even dazed in the slightest. This one on the video (was) a legit knockdown. Toney was rocked good.
80+ fights from middleweight on up, and this is the only actual KD he ever got caught with. defensive master? i think yes.

When did Collins EVER KO Benn and for that matter, a prime Benn?

Reggie set that knock down up with feints and body shots, Toney thought another body shot was coming because Reggie dropped his left just before he threw it.

Great upload. After he got hurt he ate tons of flush shots. Amazing that he hasn't been hurt since.
