Great speech. It falls a little flat at the end where you try to equate politicians and teachers. Very few teachers are, like politicians, likely to loose their jobs in a popular election every 2 two 4 years. That point was pretty weak.
Electrifying speech. I am so proud that people like Mr. Kuhn exist in education to uplift the rest of us and do what's right. Thank you, thank you Mr. Kuhn for your heart and your leadership. You are an inspiration!
It's about time that someone reflected the blame where it belongs! This vilification of teachers has got to stop and I hope that this very powerful delivery will be the key. Crucible of accountability-loved it! Many Biblical references--hope it softens the hearts of men. I'm happy to see that there is outrage somewhere.
Just an amazing speech from an amazing man. My favorite from the rally. I went to his workshop session at the SOS conference and he was inspiring. John Kuhn proves that teachers are born, not made.
@theprits Teachers aren't born, just like smart isn't what you are. Teachers and smart are what you become with 1000s of hour of hard work, dedication and a never say die attitude.
Bruce--elections are like teachers' contract renewals, BUT teachers get to ask for "reelection" with a state assigned label as to their fitness to serve. Pols have no targets, no mechanism for collecting data or comparing them, and no consequences from the state for failing to deliver quality public service.
Having been laid off after 17 years in education is, I dare say, more demoralizing than going back into that title one special needs classroom. I'd trade places, and so would large numbers of other laid off teachers; but so would millions of other laid off Americans of all types. And politicians do face accountability, in what are known as "elections".
wow the Superintendent from Texas was so right on.. thanks so much for posting and doing all you do.. I feel a bit uplifted today as I start to prepare to start school soon.. This IS the 1st year after 20 years of teaching that I do not want to go back to my title one school special needs class due to the demoralizing environment in which we teach. This man in less than 5 minutes turned my thinking around... Thank you!

Tell it like it is! Poverty is the problem and children and schools suffer while Wall street bankers and brokers thrive.
