The reason education DOES work, is because it gives you the perspective you need to find your place in the world. I grew up in an incredibly underprivileged position. All of my siblings dropped out of high school and are either in prison or working hard making minimum wage with several kids to support, way under the poverty. Education helped me break my family cycle. I have been in college for several years now and live a radically different life than how I grew up.
@Behemoth413 Certainly possess the mentality of a drop out. School teaches you things you cannot learn on your own in the world. In your case, that would be cooperation and social skills. If you're too lazy to at least try in society, then you'd might as well just bury your head in the sand. "Oh but schools boring," I'm 18 years old and in my last year of school, and i have to say it has been the best 4 years of my life all the people i've met and even some of the things i learned.
@Behemoth413 Well you missed out on some memorable years. May i ask what it is you do and how much it makes you? Is it a legitimate career? Because jobs and careers are alot different.
@seanthamaster nope i did attend high school for a while until i made my decision,it was good but i really wasnt into the idea of studying for years so i can work for someones else.
so i took up investing like on gold and silver, real estate, stocks
made enough money bought sum apt buildings , i get some cash flow on that
@Behemoth413 Work for someone else? Just because you go to school does not mean you'll have to work for someone else... Well.. You are working for your awful government no matter what, much of the money you make goes to illegitimate chimps who run your country. But even if you go to school, you can still learn leadership and run your own business. Just because you go to school doesn't mean you'll always have to have a boss. Maybe you are a lucky drop out, but no one should take such a chance.
@Behemoth413 Well, perhaps that did work out for you if all you say is true.. However, it isn't recommended. Especially in the America's current economic situation.
i dropped out of high school when i was 15. i made $80,000 last year(more than my parents individual salaries).i am 18 now. if you plan on doing programming and you already know how to do it, or now how to learn it without school i suggest dropping out immediately school was getting in my way teaching me stuff i would never use, or want to use.
1) learned HTML coding for 2 months of school before dropping out(at home online, not a school course)
2)dropped out and worked at subway part time while doing cheap website work for local businesses
3)after 6 months of this started charging more due to more experience and all the sites i worked on got clicked on a lot when they were adds on a page. 1 out of every 15 people i think?
4)did this while learning how to create servers online and maintain them
This video is bull shit. Drop outs get harder jobs than graduates and harder jobs give more money. I'm dropping out because school is a waste of fucking time, money, and life experience. I dont need to know chemistry, diameters, algebra and shapes, and who the first president was or how we won a war. Education doesnt get you a job. Talent, skills, and experience gets you a fucking job. People need to get their facts right and stop listening to the fucking teachers and believing their lies.
@rosekipa well said, me i have to get through high school or my parents will kick me out, otherwise i wouldve quit the day i started 9th grade im in 11th now and its bullshit

I am saddened by the comments I've read in response to this video. If our young people don't wake up and realize the value and importance of education, we will relinquish our place as the most powerful nation in the world. We must have a strong educational system and we must have an educated popuplation in order to be world leaders. I agree that our educational system is flawed but it is the most equitable system in the world. Anyone can get a "free" education if he/she wants it.
@MsAutumn4 There are alternatives to high school, you know... a system forced upon children will not work for every single one of them. I believe many of these comments are not "anti-education" but rather "anti-school." There's a huge difference.
@MsAutumn4 It's very hard to think about the future when you don't know if you'll have anything to eat next week. Irresponsible parents and corrupt politicians are responsible for our high dropout rates. I sympathize with teachers who take the brunt of the blame for this. They are expected to be cop, parent, social worker and educator.
just becauseof the fact statistics are so correct in america <-- sarcasm, there are the percentages of people who did well, some of the richest people, in fact a majority, are high school dropouts. in my views ill always be a statistic, always. i am planning on dropping out, im not happy living around the school system, im ready to get out in the world. and now to pick on stats. 80% of schooled kids regret going for such a longly educated time and die young. take that statistics.
theres no correlation between life expectancy and education. but it realy is worth staying in HS and graduating. itll get you way more places later on even if it sucks. i had a hard time in HS and now college is a bitch and my grades arent too good but its more about learning
Im 13 when im 16 im getting the fuck out of the school system it was a waste of my time and my life. Why do we need people to tell us what t do anyway. Im not letting anyone control my life either I'll do what I want. I have many reasons to drop out to like family problems, certain beliefs that people shouldnt control people no matter what.
That's exactly what I did, a year ago when I was 16. I don't regret it, but always have a backup plan. Like get your GED so you can still go to college and all.
Ok. Goverment is starting to control more and more what we do as years pass by. The more government controlling us the more communist there being. So you have no idea what the fuck you are talking about.
america is a land of opportunity. When you guys get off the couch, take the cheeseburgers out of your hands, and the sense of entitlement from your heads you realize that
America is the land of opportunity. I am off the couch and work two jobs. Sense of entitlement? I'm in college buddy, yes, I'm entitled because I am working, paying taxes, getting grades, etc. etc. Same as you. So, I hope that comment was not directed to me. I have no couch. Just a job, bed, school and this laptop. Cheeseburgers? Please. Italian is my game. And yes, I realize it. Why? Because my degree is on the way.
Ah, you were very right my friend. When you said our videos were in turmoil, you were exceptionally correct. Don't listen to this guy - I'll see you in class tomorrow.
P.S. (@ jaskaram) - If you are going to disrespect my colleague, please punctuate and capitalize correctly. You mentioned reading comprehension but failed to accurately use grammar yourself.
and the reason this issue really hits home with me is because I HATED school from the bottom of my heart, but I still did it. If I didn't I knew there'd be no one to blame but myself for a missed opportunity if I was pumping gas ten years later, instead of sitting in seventh grade staring the clock down day after mfing day
Nope I'm not another statistic...I graduated from high school a year ago.I haven't done so well in college though.High school doesn't prepare you at all for college.
I would say a sizable portion of high school drop outs are gifted people who can't take the day to day bullshit, the excess of stupidity, the obedience training, the discouragement of imagination and unique thought.
And most of that group succeed anyway and even those who don't, we honestly should have empathy for in a society that has spit on intelligence and human potential time and time again.
aha, doubt it. You took an online IQ test, which inflates your score and ego so you buy their "detailed results"
If you had a 150 IQ you'd breeze through school. I was in IB, with kids 120-140 IQ, and we SLEPT through high school. If you can't do high school there's serious issues with your functioning in modern society, probably resulting from some defeciency in intellgence as modern society defines it.
fwiw I took the WISC III in grade 6 and scored 135. I slept until med school.
The IQ test I took was proctored by psychology students as part of getting their PhD, our teacher offered it to anyone who wanted to do it for extra credit.
I do actually have some contrary news. Believe it or not, I am set up with several colleges. The catch? Yes, I have to work my ass off and be and the top of my class. Is it worth it? Definitely. The way you transcribed your comment against mine doesn't seem to add up with the rules of my state and several universities. Other than that, it very would could be that way in other states. But not for me. :D My transcript is proof. ***Attending college, currently, is proof. :D
Also, High School is High School. What really needs to be focused on is the level of success beyond that. One of my closest friends failed, even though he had an IQ of 150 (then again, he's schizophrenic). I wish things could be as easy as "High School means everything", but generally, it's not.
As long as you get your GED, you're able to go the same places as any High School Diploma capable person. UMKC, a regarded medical school for general physicians, WILL ACCEPT GED STUDENTS. A doctor makes 100,000 annually... do the math.
newsflash: GED is selective high school equivalency. You'd still need to make up several classes to get accepted to a college, then rock all the undergrad work hard (3.5GPA+), plus rock the MCATs, plus do community service and research to get a med school to look at you
med students are those who ate high school for breakfast, destroyed everyone in college, and won 1 seat that a school had a thousand applicants for. Hate to be harsh but if you can't do high school get ready to flip burgers
I got into community college without doing anything at all after my GED, am doing one more semester there before transferring (B average) and was accepted into a major university USF.
sorry, college=university where i live. community college is in between college and university, where remedial work is done after high school as catch up, or by immigrants wanting to upgrade
You obviously seem to be doing well for yourself, but I am too. What you did worked for you and what I'm doing is working for me so far, so we could just agree there are different paths to choose.
I'm not encouraging anyone to drop out of high school just for the hell of it. I had good reasons, some related to my mental health that I don't wish to discuss in a youtube comment debate with a random person.
no, i absolutely agree that everyone should do what works for them
what I see a lot of in this thread and in the general population is a sense of entitlement and malingering among the non-asian population. There's always a thousand reasons not to do something, and it seems they all get brought up when discussing the state of education in western culture. I'm bored at school, I have no friends, I hate the teacher, I hate the class size, I'm too ADHD, now even I'm too smart for school lol
By the way, everyone reason for me choosing the GED alternative that you could muster in your above paragraph did not match *my reasons. I don't know what else to say. I'm in college, transferring, still on my way to be a general physician - what more proof do you want? It seems others are contending with your comment as well. So... maybe it's not that way for you? I'm not trying to be harsh, either, but I'm doing fine. Maybe I got lucky! And, I'm excited about it, too!
"newsflash: GED is selective high school equivalency. You'd still need to make up several classes to get accepted to a college, then rock all the undergrad work hard (3.5GPA+), plus rock the MCATs, plus do community service and research to get a med school to look at you."
Although not *exactly what I'm doing, I'm on the way there. Towering intimidation will not stop me, nor will past mistakes. I am worried, though. Should I turn down my dream, simply because I didn't graduate High School?
Good information and educational stuff. well presentated video. Drop out is not the solution to the future. I had struggled with school and I am doing really good today I hope those people out there to good too. Joining the gang is a chance of death or prison.
@georgeofthejungle99 I saw a commercial that teen pregnancy can be inevitable at times. It's not hard to just buy a condom, or a contraception pill. Even better, just don't do it.
@georgeofthejungle99 teenagers being sluts it's fine. if they use proper protection they'll be fine. I had a friend in school that had sex with pretty much every girl in the school. he always wore a condom and never got a girl pregnant.
fuck u little bitch, i dropped out and now i make more than 70k a year faggot, fuck school and fuck the police

I had good reasons, some related to my mental health that I don't wish to discuss in a youtube comment debate with a random person.
liveyoungdiefast91 2 years ago
no, i absolutely agree that everyone should do what works for them
what I see a lot of in this thread and in the general population is a sense of entitlement and malingering among the non-asian population. There's always a thousand reasons not to do something, and it seems they all get brought up when discussing the state of education in western culture. I'm bored at school, I have no friends, I hate the teacher, I hate the class size, I'm too ADHD, now even I'm too smart for school lol

*sorry, meant between college and HS

By the way, everyone reason for me choosing the GED alternative that you could muster in your above paragraph did not match *my reasons. I don't know what else to say. I'm in college, transferring, still on my way to be a general physician - what more proof do you want? It seems others are contending with your comment as well. So... maybe it's not that way for you? I'm not trying to be harsh, either, but I'm doing fine. Maybe I got lucky! And, I'm excited about it, too!

Teen pregnancy is their fault, I don't feel sorry for them. They should have not been sluts.
georgeofthejungle99 3 years ago 26
@georgeofthejungle99 I saw a commercial that teen pregnancy can be inevitable at times. It's not hard to just buy a condom, or a contraception pill. Even better, just don't do it.
th4Guy77 6 months ago
@georgeofthejungle99 teenagers being sluts it's fine. if they use proper protection they'll be fine. I had a friend in school that had sex with pretty much every girl in the school. he always wore a condom and never got a girl pregnant.
