I was part of the 10th Mt. 2-14 Infantry. The cobra was providing my unit support as we were in a prolonged firefight just outside the University compound. We were pinned down for about an hour, and the cobra was putting fire on a building that held a lot if the bad guys. The door gunner on the blackhawk was also giving them some lead too. Great video, thanks. Never thought I would see that again.
Sorry Rangers, but this was the first Mogadishu Mile(where were you?)! We were ambushed by the Sammies about 2 miles outside the University compound during a search mission, and had several wounded. We fought our way back to the compound on foot and under heavy direct fire(RPGs included). This is where Cco 2/14 earned their badges. Thanks for posting these videos.
That is amazing! I've never seen actual combat footage of the Mog there before. Certainly haven't seen modern combat footage of Army Cobra's. Kinda hard to imagine its been so long ago now. Glad you found this footage. Thanks for posting it.
Didn't all that happen north of the University/embassy compound?? where they were shooting up that building full of skinnies taking shoots into the compound? I can't remember for sure, But do remember. Got some good still pics of it but no video.. Got some real good audio from a June 22/23rd battle when they try to enter the compound.. Wild stuff.. We always had RPG's landing in the Embassy compound..
According to the video poster, this was in September, not in June.
If I'm thinking of the same incident that you are, (I don't know the date, but around the 4th of July,) there was an attack on the University one night, when a USO show was coming through town. I was with a group of buddies playing darts at the MWR building at the bottom of the hill when we started taking small arms fire.
I was standing on the roof of HQ looking at this. The Turks were also shooting with tanks at this target. Some foes got blown skyhigh.. I will never forget the sound of the 22 mm cannon on the heli...
This was C and B companies battle. Golden Dragons Baby!
