it looks like he's lip syncing but if you noticed his voice fades out when he stands up and walks around and when he's back at his piano it goes back to normal.
Love the look on the chick's face who he dances with during "get Down" when he let's her go, like (in heavy brit accent) "Oh, you don't like me then?"
@shoedytang C'mon now, who doesn't lip sync. when on TV? Then AND now. On most shows they don't even have the leads plugged into their Guitars or keyboards. Johnny O'Keefe was talking to me as he was "singing" a song on Six O'clock Rock in Sydney way back in ......wha? Oh forget it. I'm starting to ramble on.......
@makjac46 ah yeah i know they all do it but their better at it theses days sure some of the crap thats around these days will charge ya 90 euro for a ticket and lip sync the whole concert lol
Is the first time you've seen something on youtube from the 1970s ? Lots of it was lipsynched.....very common on tv then. No reflection on the artist - that was the way it was done then for a lot of shows.
Youtube i believe is the greatest phenomena in the last few years, please correct my poor english. It's wonderful to sit for a whiole in the audience and then think back how these people would have never relaized they would be broadcasted worldwide through youtube. Just wonderful...

@livesteam thats what I'm asking myself, even when I'm only 26 years old. but this was music! Not all this castingshit thats everywhere now... really sad.
My Dad always played Gilbert O sullivan from a Grundig tape machine when I was under ten years fo age & my Dad was in his early 30's. He was a big fan. I'm 45 now & he's 70 years old. Gilbert will always remind me of the great man I love so much.
@uhliuhli .....you and me both. how is it possible to remember these songs? by the way i'm a boy of 1967. I just watched Ice Age 3 with my son and just heard one of his tracks the memories of flared jeans came back
I remember watching this very TV special at the time it went out, when I was 6 years old! I remember him wearing that sweater with a G on it and him going into the audience like that. Great memories. There aren't any singer/songwriters like him around anymore.
I had to post again...I was in Dublin last week with my family and as I was walking with our son I heard MATRIMONY coming from a pub---I swore it was a cd--it sounded exactly like GILBERT...I wanted to go in but I was with my son and he was tired....I wish I got the guys name he sounded amazing!
I like Gilbert, but "We show up an hour late like two frozen peas"? Huh? And the blond chick over Gilbert's left shoulder looks like she'd rather be having invasive surgery.
But the Early start with Nothing Ryhmed;-) That was really the first beginning (so it is as always). Get down was really DISCO 1974 the year that it all begins
Back in the 60's and 70's a lot of great singers did lipsynching on certain shows that may have been on television or taped. This was just what was done then.
It would be really difficult (and rather ridiculous) to lip-sync an entire compilation of "hits" while in the presence of a live audience; especially those in close proximity. He "sang" and performed with some pre-recordings...but he did not lip-sync.
It is lipsynched. The whole thing is a staged production. How else does his voice maintain volume with no mic when he gets up and runs around and sings? It's as fake as Milli Vanilli and it was and is done all the time in music videos. The sound quality of the songs themselves is way too good for an intimate live performance. Great video just the same.
I'm sorry to have to unbreak it but you're wrong, go read wikipedia's page on the partridge familly, everything is explained. They really were singing. lol
Really not fair to liken this amazing singer/songwriter with a fake singer who made the charts without any credentials. Milli Vanilli & Gilbert O'Sullivan should NOT be addressed inn the same sentence ever again - lol. I'm sure the lipsynching was for 'budget' and/or timing reasons. The guy is not averse to singing his own songs.
the reason it's not live is because television studios are not in a capacity to give good live shows but more modern day studios are better equipped...even Robin Gibb said so too...
it looks like he's lip syncing but if you noticed his voice fades out when he stands up and walks around and when he's back at his piano it goes back to normal.
