Brava Beverly! This Baroque aria was a favorite of many sopranos like Kiri Te Kanawa who sang it @Princess Diana's wedding, Kathleen Battle and in Sill's own time - Joan Sutherland . Sills sings it with a bright gleam and child like excitement. Note how shealso looks with curiosity at the trumpet player before singing. Any other soprano (even today) would not turn back to look at the musician. She has a professional, beautiful warm down-to-earth glow. Shame she doesnt sing the WHOLE ARIA
Even with the voice starting to fray and wobble here, she could move it so fast and with such dexterity. And she had her own glorious style. She had concert gowns made with pockets in the front, or asked designers add them, so she had some place to put her hands! Too funny.
Beverly Sills was a wonderful human being and singer! She got me into opera! I love how humble she is..notice how she looks at the trumpet player first! Love this...I'm glad Beverly Sills "lives" on Youtube, because she is no longer among the living here on earth...if only she could somehow see her youtube videos from heaven!
NO ONE sings like her! She just waltzes out there and sings with such joy and bounciness. She's just care-free and happy to be doing this. I just love her whole attitude. She has the technique, she's been doing this for years and years, she no longer has anything to prove. It's like, she's done all the work and practice and now she just gets to sit back and what will be will be. And what was -- was wonderful!
Boy, I miss her! She had so much fun, didn't she? And brought everyone into the fun with her. And, unless I'm sorely mistaken, that's Doc Severinson on the trumpet?!?! Who knew he could play like that?
Is there ANYONE who can be as professional and talented as Beloved Beverly? No, I don't think so, she is without doubt, the Incomparable Prima donna assoluta supremo! Amen!
Bb Doc? Come on!
