wow....i grew up in el salvador and i listened to Rush a lot...it was hard and expensive to get their albums...my friends were also huge Rush fans...great memories!!.....oh i saw them live for the Moving Pictures Tour....magical!!!
One of my favorite Rush tracks off this LP. Mercury Records always seemed to have great acts on their label such as these guys, Rush, Thin Lizzy, Uriah Heep, The Bar Kays, the Ohio Players, City Boy, Rod Stewart, and BTO among others. Thank you Mercury for giving the world Rush!
This is an awesome song by Rush from "Fly By Night". Alex Lifeson plays a mean guitar on this, Neil Pert plays a mean drums, and Geddy Lee sings a mean vocal on this track. Too bad this song never really got any airplay.
how great is this stuff after what we've had rammed down our collective throats for the last decade or so? my youngest son listened to a couple of my rush cd's and just said: wow....wow!
AWESOME, Beautiful, Classic, underrated RUSH tune! I love this song more & more when I jam it & it's been played on my stereo system a million times over! Thank You Rush for writing such a kickass song! Y'all ROCK!!!
People will never understand the power of rock music and loving bands .Some People never get it ,To us it is all about the music,Where we were when it came out,Who we were with, and who we liked or loved!!!
@vinsvinyl just lost one myself to suicide at 45 years of age 17 days ago and i have been using my vintage Rush catalog as my medicine and therepy and keeping happy memories of us blazing to rush before hell week in high school and discovering the mind candy of tempo change audible sound and how neils drumkit grew lol. Miss Ya my Friend Ronski!!!!
agreed. probably my favorite Rush tune, and my favorite to play on bass. just a beautiful song. dedicated to my friend Shane Hill who i turned on to Rush in 81 and who turned out to be enen a bigger fan than myself which i didnt think was possible.
i always loved this song since I was a kid in 1977 .It just takes you someplace when your a kid into rock and nobody else gets you or what your about ..So you go home and put your headphones on and forget about the world!!!!!!!!!!!!
@dadadruma -- Hail to your words, dude; ARTISTIC CREATIVE MUSIC TRANSENDS ALL. Few things in Canada unite its people more than the three guys who gave us 2112, Fly By Night and Caress Of Steel. And then eventually topped it all off with Moving Pictures. I am forever grateful to these guys for making my life better, though they do not know me at all and I will never know them. Really glad we could connect. I can see you lifting that pickup arm from here....
Just listen to the 2nd guitar as it weaves itself in over the harsh, shocking sound of the main instrument. This has just got to be the greatest fade-in work of all times.
I must have listened to that song with headphones on five hundred times between 1981 and 1990. It was easy taking the pick-up arm back to the beginning. At least, you KNEW when you had made a scratch on the disc.
Awesome work, Geddy, Neil, Alex. Thanks a million times over.
@HBells126 dude the one thing i just effing love about you tube is checking out a classic song that takes you back in time and you think how many times i just played a certain riff or fill or even song entirly and read a comment that somebody had the same experience(s) as yourself!! ARTISTIC CREATIVE MUSIC TRANSENDS ALL
I Think us Rush fans are truly the luckiest fans in rock because other than the first rush lp but we have the exact same 3 titans that lead that immortal band!
I think this is their rearist song played. I first heard it on "All the World's A Stage" (One of top 5 live albums in rock history). I actually went out and bought the Fly By Night Album and played it. This album is extremely under-rated. There are no videos with this song live that I know of. Any one care to lead me in the right direction. And I am not talking about it being included with other songs as an on-chore.
This is my favorite song by RUSH. I've had all their albums up to g.u.p. at one time or another. this song sounds so ethereal, like your floating almost, at first. Then the heavy guitar is almost scary when you're IN it.
wow....i grew up in el salvador and i listened to Rush a lot...it was hard and expensive to get their albums...my friends were also huge Rush fans...great memories!!.....oh i saw them live for the Moving Pictures Tour....magical!!!

@1962drob That's ok, the master forgives...lol Seriously though, there's a lot of people out there who prounounce the name as 'Pert' too.

@whisky110 I guess a lot of people make that mistake. By the way, today is Geddy Lee's Birthday. Can you believe he's 58?

The guitar at 1:50 reminds me of Nazereth's "Love Hurts".
