Nothing quite matches the original version on FEAR . . . but I love the way he can use such different arrangements that also sound great in their own right; this is certainly ONE of the best versions I've heard - and Siouxsie, as always, REALLY makes it special.
actually i think it's from his 'fear' lp.. Personally the early version is a helluva lot more COMPELLING than this. I was fortunate to see him once at CBGB in 1979 when he was still doing wild things with the electric viola. His later stuff puts me to sleep.
I saw him at CBs in '79 as well - right around New Years I think. That WAS awesome; but I think you need to give his more recent stuff more of a listen, esp. Black Acetate. It's no Helen of Troy or Fear but still great!
Not only friends, John Cale wrote the tune, I've heard his version, but this is the best version of this tune I've ever heard. Yes, "Gun" on Banshees album, was UNBELIEVABLE!!! I heard that first, bought it new, learned every word, creeped out everybody I knew, because I kept singing it all the time. But, the combo: Souixie & Cale works so damn good, their voices are perfect "compliments" together, its almost scarey. Perfect for this tune!! |:-)> wow!!!!!!!!!

It's from Cale's 1973 album, Fear, and the Banshees have an excellent cover version.

For all you who don't know JOHN CALE, this song is from his 1975 album Dazzle, one of the aclaimed albums of his Island Trilogy.

Didn't she do a version of this with the Banshees?
I kinda miss the screechy noise solos.

Sure, it's in the THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS album. There's a better version there, I think but... well... this is more like concert among friends...
