  • Mike Love looks like the old fellow in the movie "Home Alone"

  • Just look into those precious eyes...Carl you are so wonderful

  • yes.. Carl is REALLY great here.. but this also illustrates what an excellent vocalist

AL was.. shame he wasn't featured more... also, this tune should've been a HUUGE hit.. if there was ANy justice in the world. A Most EXCEllent tune.

  • I know exactly what you mean!!

  • this is becoming one of my favorite beach boys song, i love carl in this he rocks with that voice and al jardine fill in voice

  • Every time I watch this I fall in love with Carl again

  • Carl is really in his prime here. If it wasn't for him, the Beach Boy's might not have made it to 2012.

  • @BeachBoysJanDean1 The BB did not make it until 2012.

    Carl died 1998. After that?

  • Cral was one of the best ever!

  • Everytime I watch this I fall in love with Carl Wilson again

  • Nice lamb-chops!

  • Song was ispired by The Monkees.

  • @CannonTigers This song was NOT inspired by the Monkees! Brian wrote it with his dad Murray but credited as Reggie Dunbar. It was written in an hour and had to to with the break up of Capital Records. Written on March 31st 1969, the Monkees were all done by that point.

  • I always liked Carl's voice best out of them.

  • I think actually Carl had a really beautiful voice, he sings so lovely.

  • Carl really turned into a very handsome man. I love him when he grew his beard. And yep Mike Love does look creepy as f***

  • Always get a kick out of the lyric "When I laid down on my bed, I heard voices in my head". Nice track, with Al, Carl, and Mike getting in some good leads. Always dig the BB songs where everyone works as a team with the vocals.

  • Carl Wilson should be named an American treasure. His voice is perfection.

  • Yeah, you had to have ML in the mix.

  • Mike Love is GOD!

  • @stalbansrecords Well, obviously he is the SON of God!

  • Great!

  • Carl so freakin hot. YUM

  • @crietman29 And also very cute!

  • no idea why so many of the beach boys decided to have ugly beards - Carl is so cute in here

  • @mothxal beards aren't ugly and they looked good with there beards.

  • Mike looks...intresting...

  • One of the very best bands ever!! Always loved the Beach Boys and this tune!!

  • Carl pours his heart and soul into this song...thank you great man....you will never be duplicated

  • I heard voices in my head! Too true..

  • Three days I wish we could take back in American History. 1. 9/11; 2. December 7, 1941' 3. The day Brian Wilson said, "Hey, I wonder if Mike would want to sing with us."

  • Carl's voice is like an angels...so beautiful...RIP in great man

  • @Goeslightly I know!:)

  • Al looks so cute in this video!

  • perfect pitch . one of only three that i know of .

  • Mike Love, hideous as always.

  • aww Carl:-)

  • @MegaVideogirl99 Carl was so cute.....

  • @loesepoes18 <3 think so too...

  • @winterweib it,s so sad thati he is gone....... still miss him! You have good taste for men winterweib!

  • @helen25243- I can believe that- got lots of patience :)

  • I love this song!:D I like the way Al sounds

  • Brilliant song. Written by Brian & "Reggie Dunbar" aka Murry Wilson. Carl's chubby cheeks look so cute.

  • Pure freaking genius! Great stuff.

  • - Yeah I love Denny, he was sooo good lookin, but I'd have to say that if i was a young girl back then I'd have gone for the chubby lead singer- poor guy wouldn't have stood a chance- i'd be all over that. lol

  • @crietman29 the "chubby lead singer" was Carl, and there would have been a very long queue for you to join!!

  • amen - carl had talent akin to brian, but carl was not mentally ill, hence his 'genius' was in his stability. Brain cancer is a horrifying dz. I often wonder about the roots of such illness in the Wilson family. Poor Carl - but his boys carry on the tradition or did for a while?

  • no agrada la cancion

  • There are only two singers in the past 50 years that I would have described as "having the voice of an angel". They were Karen Carpenter and Carl Wilson. RIP.

  • @FishOnTwoWheels - agreed, but may I add to this list, Kasim Sultan who sang lead in 'Utopia', one of Todd Rundgren's many incarnations. He sang like a choirboy - as does Vince Gill .....

  • - Awww Carl is adorable. What a sweet face he had. Yes very huggable :)

  • Where was Brian?

  • I've tought of ELO watching this. I can't tell if that makes sense. If someone out there finds there can be a link please comment upon it ;-)

  • Mike Love looks creepy as fuck.

  • @jjc3000 Yes, itis hard to belive that mike love is only 29 in this video, he looks like he is in his 40';s

  • @jjc3000 He is.

  • @jjc3000 Didn't he always?

  • @jjc3000 : He's a perfect pick to play Charlie Manson in a movie

  • Always dug this song. I wonder how many tracks they wound up using for the vocals.

  • I met that wonderful Carl!

  • @kasmiril Well heck man, tell us more! He certainly had a sweet look, not that Brian was far behind. (And no, I ain't gay.)

  • nice sideburns xD

  • We miss you so very much, Carl!!!

  • Carl <3

  • Forget the Beatles these were the best ever!!!!!!!!! From a British girl!! x

  • *-* Carl is...is...Awww! Cute!!!!!!!

  • I became a Beach Boys fan at about age 9, 1966. Went to first concert age 10, opening song was Darlin', then was hooked forever. So when Break Away came out it was so cool to hear the old BBs were back. I played it over and over that Summer. It's still a fav BB song of mine.

  • Bruce Johnson also has a Super Great Voice. he has to have, he replaced Brian as a Background Singer. Mike Love did most of the Vocals early in their Career

  • Carl had a Beautiful Voice

  • Carl had a voice like cream poured over strawberries!! You are missed soooo much!!

  • @stwads amen to that, stwads! Love this for Carl's choirboy purity of tone. Gone way, way too soon.

  • @stwads For me.. It brings back old memories of high school.. uncertainties fall in love feelings. my parents who cared for me..a forgotten world that hurts while listening to these sounds..

  • cool sideburns :)

  • I adore Carl!!!! What a cutie pie. Yum!

  • Al is adorable <3

    Carl is a Teddy Bear :3 <3

    Dennis is Delicious x3

    Mike is a douche xD

  • Dear God, if you give us Dennis and Carl back we'll give you Ke$ha and Justin Bieber. The Wilson brothers have done infinitely more for this world.

  • If I could sing like just 1 person, it would easily be Carl Wilson

  • Carl is a Teddy Bear :3

  • No one could ever sing like these guys. Carl and Dennis - we still miss you a lot!!

  • @Beatlemaniacaa1 Brian wasn't touring with them at that point anymore.

  • Carl's voice was angelic. Amazing.

Interesting factoid about this song - it was cowritten with their father Murry Wilson.

  • Carl looks a lot like Paul McCartney, here.

  • @Uetti i was just thinking of that,i dont know if it was his eyes but yeah i totally see it

  • The Beach Boys Forever

  • Geez Mike looks old with that beard.

  • wish i had a time machine to go back to 60's!

  • It's amazing how well all of them can fluctuate their voices. That's why they're my favorite band!!

  • What a wonderful song! It's ideal on every side including fact that 2 my favourite Beach Boys (& IMO the best singers of the band) share chief leads in that. Esp. I like Al's part, i.e. chorus, fine melody, better than in verses. But overall "Break Away"... see my 1st sentence. :)

  • i figured out on a website just know that brian (my favorite one) played bass just like i do

  • That was an epic beard that Mike Love had. Hee, hee

  • Mike Love = Methuselah

  • Mike Love looks like he should be in the movie "The Ten Commandments."

  • Quite the helmet that Bruce is wearing.

  • What a gorgeous, heartbreaking song. It was a big hit in Europe. I think it hit #63 here in the states.

Real Beach Boy fans really need to hear this period of their greatest music!

    Joe

  • how can I tell Brian and Carl Apart?? HELPP!!! :D

  • @Beatlezgurly uhh they look totally different?

  • @Beatlezgurly For a start, Carl's in this clip, Brian's not - that should help

  • @ashie259 you are correct, I'm not sure, but perhaps Brian is still in his room ( just kidding) I always liked Carl's voice better anyway................

  • @NAMDOG54 Yep, totally agree. As the years have gone by, I've found myslelf enjoying the Carl-led Beach Boys stuff most of all. Brian composing and producing and Carl singing - that's the ideal format as far as I'm concerned.

  • @Beatlezgurly Carl is the one who sings on key and is about 150 lbs lighter...

  • @blueticecho you may have just chosen the 2 worst ways to tell brian and carl apart.

  • @blueticecho I hope the ghost of Dennis beats you up in your sleep...

  • it's interesting that Murray Wilson, the father, wrote the lyrics with Brian composing the music for this. The lyrics are a little weird and don't seem to relate to the boys. The music and voices are great. Mike Love is an integral part of their success. The band he has now is very professional and good even if it isn't the original band.

  • Man Carl and Brian Wilson were blessed with big time talent, they remind me in a way of Benny Anderson and Bjorn Ulvaeus...Carl Wilson's singing is heaven.

  • Comment removed

  • @impassable Well that's Bruce. he was a fill in 4 brian wilson. but the singer is carl wilson.

  • damn he lost so much weight

  • Pop gods. It's heaven listening to them sing.

  • Haven´t heard this for such a long time ... thank you.

  • wow...what a great song of beach boys

  • breakaway what a great song,,,of beach boys

  • mike was talentless if you ask me,

  • wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeres brian

  • Al is very underrated, he played bass in the band in the beginning and he even took over the high vocals for a concert tour when Brian freaked out about perfoming live in 64. They got Bruce after that, but Al is an original!

  • @THeMaskedBlogCritic I'm pretty sure he played rhythm guitar.

  • @Karateworm Yes, live and for a majority of the earlier recorded songs, but there are a lot of songs that he played bass on, all through their career. Its pretty well documented. There was an instance where David Marks was still in the band and he took over for Brian for a few shows playing bass and singing the high parts.

  • @THeMaskedBlogCritic Ah right, thanks for the info!

  • happy birthday brian wilson

  • Mike is very ....what's the word ? misunderstood !! He is an excellent role model for all young people the world over. If everyone was like him there would be no wars and the world would be full of LOVE !!!!

  • @paisleygerry were you high when you wrote this ?

  • @paisleygerry Mike Love is a smug dickhead. He doesn't know the first thing about love.

  • @FuckingStanz Those were the words I was really searching for.....but somehow the others came out. Do you think Mike Love is secretly controlling people's minds and thoughts ??

  • @paisleygerry Probably.

  • I also disagree that Bruce Johnston does not/did not fit in w/ the Beach Boys. He made many important contributions to the group over the decades that he has been with them. He added a sweet voice, musicality, and producing talent, among other things....oh yeah, songwriting, of which "Disney Girls" is the pinnacle.

  • @bobareebop - If only Bruce had been a BB from the start! Mike never belonged. To me, the dream line-up would have been the Wilson brothers, plus Glen Campbell (yes, he was a BB) on rhythm guitar instead of Al, and Bruce instead of Mike. Now THAT would have been a band!

  • @bobareebop

I totally agree. In addition, he also proved he could go it alone and had some solo successes without them. I reckon he tends to be overlooked because his personality just never generated any drama.

  • lol look at the cunt mike love

  • @jammmon - I'd have said Mike is more of an asshole, really.

  • Beautiful song. Wonderful complex harmonies.

    Can't be better!

    Thank's for sharing this.

  • Bruce is and always was the sixth Beach Boy,

  • The more I think about it, the more i think carl wilson was the best singer ever

    he had an incredible power

  • Carl I love your voice, you're so sweet <3

  • Oh my Carl is so lovely! His voice is as sweet as his face :) Love the song! Thanks.

  • oops, I mean to say "oh my, Carl is so lovely", not "my Carl" (I'm not that vain ;D Once again, wonderful song!

  • Of course Bruce belongs with the Beach Boys.

  • I'm sorry folks, but, Bruce Johnston does not belong with The Beach Boys. I am sure he is a good guy and he has been with the group most of the time when Brian had his issues with drugs, but, I just don't accept the Beach Boys other than the 5 originals. I don't know. I am not trying to be mean or anything, but, groups like this doesn't come around very often.

  • I disagree - simply put, he has been integral to their live and studio production since singing on California Girls. He also wrote what is (for me) one of their top numbers - Disney Girls (and Brian agrees).

  • @pitts40 You mean the original Beachboys with David Marks instead of Al Jardine? Because Jardine came later like Bruce Johnston.

  • Don't preach to us that Bruce Johnston doesn't belong with The Beach Boys. He's a great singer, musician and songwriter (he has won a grammy). He has been very important to studio production and performing live. The Beach Boys lineup has probably changed more than you know. In fact it happens with nearly all bands at some stage and Bruce Johnston definitely contributed a great deal to The Beach Boys.

  • Al Jardine was an original member. David Marks was hired when Al quit after their first single. He rejoined 14 months later when Brian started skipping concerts. I agree Bruce doesn' t really belong. His easy listening sensibility has nothing to do with rock and roll. I find his stuff unlistenable. Just shmaltz. I'm sure he is a nice person, but no. Also, I don't think he was important to their live sound. Their best live album was recorded in 1973 when he wasn't with them.

  • beach boys rule. timeless

  • Carl is so so so cute here! I just want to hug him!!

  • @wouldntyoulike2know

    me too!!! <3

  • @wouldntyoulike2know Me too! I wish we still could.... but he allways was cute, when he was young and when he became older he was gorgeos! He was a warm and charming man

  • Carl and Dennis were great singers who had voices of angles.they were very talented and gifted and their legacy will live on.

    R I P Dennis and Carl.

  • Who's the croaking, scary-looking, bearded troll which is visible at the far right from 1:40 on? :-)

  • Comment removed

  • @1ndi64 it's Mike Love--he sang about half the group's hits--he had the high nasal-y voice and sang "Surfin USA", "Fun Fun Fun" and a bunch of others. He does look a little spooky here!

  • @1ndi64 That's Mike,unleashimg the LOVE!

  • mike love look a lilcrazy:0

  • Reggie Dunbar who gets a credit on the writing of this song was actually Murray Wilson, Brian's father. The only song they wrote together. I also believe this video is from a concert the boys did in Prague, right after Russian tanks rolled in to quash an uprising. There was talk of cancelling the concert but Carl would have none of it. That is why Mikey Loveless looks petrified here.

  • @IainB1511 This video is overdubbed with a studio track and appears to be from a TV appearance or some other small venue.

  • the beach boys ... the epitemy of COOL!!!!

  • the AWESOME BEACHBOYS WOW rest in peace carl & dennis

  • thank you, jeanette - LVEMEDO - for sharing one of my all-time favorite songs with me!! you know how i love my boys!!great post, nyrainbow2!! thanks, and five stars!

    david!!

  • One of the BW's best songs ever.

  • This is one of my favorite Beach Boys songs. Seriously, it's underrated.

  • i agree, mike love's baritone part really seals the deal!

  • Yes, it's the best song they ever did and my favourite too. Would love to see more video footage.

  • mine too

  • I never realised the Beach Boys were so cool - I can't stop watching this vid

  • I Watch This Every Day! Carl's Voice Is So Lovely! :-D <3

  • you never realized it. believe it or not the bb's album 'pet sound' served as inspiration for the beatles' sgt. pepper's.

the bb's and beatles were good friends and visited eachother frequently and traded ideas. they were not in competition, as their music was different, from different countries. they almost collaberated. check out the dvd 'the beach boys..an american band'. at the beginning of this video, the opening scene is one of paul and linda mccartney at the home of brian wilson in ca.

  • Carl!!!!!! <3

  • carl was a god. bless him xxxxxx

  • @1domw I wrote series of articles on carls problems with the draft board in the carl wilson club in myspace [the clubs are temporarily shut off ]

  • Is it Brian Wilson singing at the front with long hair or is it Carl Wilson?
