  • Hi,i like a lot to use bombarda with shrimps flies,you're right,bites are rare.But spinning it's my love.Cheers!!!

  • Impressive. Very scrappy fish.

  • Nice video, and nice fish :)

  • superb fighting fish :)

  • What a fight and great fish I wish we had fish like that around here.

  • It is plain and simple magic :)

  • Hey, very nice seatrout, spectaculare jumping. You gotta love seatrout fishing in Denmark, but also rest of Scandinavia. There is something special fishing for seatrout in cold weather in early spring or late fall! :)

  • @Timefliesfishing Thanks. Coast fishing for sea trout in winter is indeed quite special. Regardless how cold the water is and how rare the bites are, I still get drawn back to it every winter when I visit Denmark. :)

  • Looks like they fight like rainbows/

How far did you need t cast to get at them?

  • @TheVancouverMan Casting distance is required but you can catch them anywhere from 10ft to 100ft.

  • @fishingwithrod

i have been in copenhagen for a few months now and want to unpack that fishing rod again. found your videos and was quite impressed with the sea trouts you caught. since the coast is very long in denmark i wonder if you would share the location of the "old spot" :)

anzy suggestions around copenhagen - from helsingor to Koege maybe.

    thanks

  • @sinnhuawa Check your inbox, I've sent you a message. :)

  • INSANE trout

  • Decent fish on some good/fair tackle.

I want to be there with you. :(

  • What kind of leader nylon do you use? Seems like you use alot of force, so I was wondering how thick it is. ( :

  • @umlg In this particular video, I used Maxima Ultragreen 6lb/3kg test for tippet.

  • Beautiful sea trout, I wanna catch one of those ! :)

  • hey what kind of fly your useing??? and what weight of flyrod do u prefer???

  • Just a simple grey hackle pattern. The rod used to catch these fish was a 4/5wt.

  • Now this is what I call FLY FISHING...!! You did a very good job on this video. I know how difficult it is to capture scenes like this. 5 stars for you :)

  • Nice shots. You got the hook set and jumps. I've been trying to get a shot like that for months about it hasn't work out yet.

  • Thanks. It takes hours of camera/tripod time to get a few perfect hookset shots. I was pretty lucky that day. :)

  • Awesome fish. Try to keep your hand set lower when you fight. Hands way up high limit your range of motion left & right; be able to adapt quickly to a fish as she changes direction. Difficult if you in a kayak or boat but wading you need the lower hand. Super jumps like a steel-head.

  • Thanks. The reason I kept the hands so high is the waters 20 from shore to 20 ft in front of me were covered with algae beds (from the bottom to the surface) and quite a few times in the past I have lost fish when they ran into them. :)

  • You can just hear when a reel has a quality drag. You wont lose many fish on a reel that quality ! :)

  • Islander Precision Reel, made in Canada. :)

  • Nice fishing and nice video. Good looking fish - "overspringer".

    Where in Denmark do fish?

  • Tak. I usually fish around Sjælland, on both the east and west coasts from Copenhagen.

  • Not bad man! congratulations;)

  • what video editor did you use?

  • Adobe Premiere Pro.

  • That was great I really enjoyed that video.

  • Nice video rod :) ive never seen anybody fish for these sea trout off the beach. Here in the UK they are predominantly fished for inland. how did the fish taste?

  • Thanks! These fish are also targeted in streams when they return to spawn as well (from summer up to mid October, streams are then closed from mid October to mid January to protect spawners). Over here in Denmark, the beach fishery for sea trout is very popular because the country lacks streams and lakes that cater freshwater anglers. The fish tasted just ok, they lack fat content so I find them to be slightly drier than preferred.

  • Very nice video. Nice fish too! But a little to slim to eat imo :) Late march this year i caught a "grønlænder / overspringer aka silver " at my local beach first time visiting, 60 cm and 4.2kg, it were so fat and full of those creepy long worms with thousand legs. The fish and fight of my life! Took 20 mins to pull it in on a 7" 5-20gram Berkley Select Lightning Rod :D

By the way, it is possible to catch 20 pounders at the beach too! ;)

  • Thanks. Yes it is indeed quite slim. My understanding from the locals is that fish caught in the Store Baelt typically retain such slim shape while fish caught in Koege Bugt, Oresund are much deeper. That has been shown in most of my catches as well. Hopefully one day I can catch one with a similar length and weight ratio as yours, or bigger. ;)

  • I can imagine that, they don´t feed as much as the sea trouts in Limfjorden in the cold periods due to higer salt level. If you dont mind driving some milage for good fishing, i can highly recommend you go to Limfjorden near Skive where Karup Å is meeting the fjord, 20km north from there we have super spots and all around Sallingsund too.

Wish you the best of the luck catching one of those fatty silvers :)

  • Great video! Glad to see even a fly fisherman like the taste of trout.

  • Thanks. Although I probably release most of the fish that I catch, occasionally I do enjoy taking one for the dinner table. :) That being said, I find these sea trout lacking the fat content that Pacific salmon have, so they are definitely not my favorite fish for eating so I keep perhaps one fish each winter just to remind me how they taste. ;)

  • I am with you rod! I prefer to release alot of my fish but do enjoy the taste of fish. I just liked how you mentioned you keeping it. A lot of guys I know who fly fish would look down upon me for keeping fish. Anyways great vid.

  • Really nice video. Great that you live in denmark which is close to sweden. I really love fishing sea trout/Salmon because it's allway exciting because you never know when they are attempting to get your bait.

My grandpa is also a nice fisherman, pro i would call him . :)

  • Thanks. Definitely, what makes the coastal sea trout fishery so appealing is the fact that it is so unpredictable. This characteristic used to frustrate me when I first started but this challenge seems to draw me back every year now.

  • Congratulations my friend from Spain.

  • loved it - well done !

  • great video, it absolutely made my day, i will be fishing in denmark in march. i'm really looking forward to it, I somehow fell in love wih these cold and frosty mornings at the beaches.

maybe I will fish at the skjern au in january, do you know this stream? it's quite fantastic for salmon and seatrout

  • I think you'll find the beach fishing in March quite good, better than what I am experiencing right now. :) I'm not familar with Skjern or any other river fisheries in Jylland so perhaps others can provide you the information. Good luck!

  • That is a nice fish. Congrats. Fish like that really makes the effort worth while. Great filming and editing aswell, surprisingly good considering the fact that you fimed it all by yourself.

  • Tak! :) Just by luck I managed to capture all of it on video. I immediately set up the video camera once I saw a sign of fish and had a feeling that I may connect with a fish or two. I am normally behind the camera unless someone is operating it so it's nice to get this in a video blog. It is also easier on a beach than a river to have the video camera stationary.

  • Very cool, my man!

  • Outstanding piece of fishing and filming.

    Inspiring, fun to watch.

    5* cheers fella.

  • Thanks, I really enjoy the carp blogs too. ;)

  • Excellent fish! Spectacular even!

  • Wow wow wow! That is a nice sea trout!

  • Excellent!!!

    I like to be there!!!

Better quality images and good edit~~

  • Thanks!

  • Nice fighter!

I was cringing when I saw you hold the fish upside down by the tail, I hope fish that are to be released aren't held like that.

  • Don't worry Brian, only the ones that get the rock shampoo are held upside down. ;)

  • My family out west says sea trout fishing can be great off the beahces for cutthroat so I hope to try if we visit soon enough! :) andrew

  • The beach cutthroat trout fishing can indeed be quite good at times in BC, as well as in streams, estuaries, lakes. The fishery featured in this video is pretty similar to BC's cutthroat trout fishing, the only differences between the two fisheries are the size of the fish and type of feeds.

  • Ya these are bigger trout forsure, not to say there arent these kind of BIG cutthroat but hey think BIG :)!

  • Rod awesome video man, you had me on the line wanting to see more...I loved the end how you carried your keep of the day, great image. One question I have is what reel was that, Islander I presume?

  • Thanks Nigel. Beside the hook-up of the larger fish, my favorite scene of this video is actually the end where I carried the fish away like you said, also the close-up of the waves washing over algae pads. :)

The reel is indeed an Islander, LX 3.2. It goes well with my 4 or 5wt. :)

  • Nice you kept it 2! that looks tastyyy!

  • It sure was! ;)

  • nice fish! good vid!

  • Tak!

  • Awesome video!

  • Nice sea trout, makes me itchin to go out for some campbell river cutties.

  • Great video and nice fish Rodney!!!

Hope the rest of your trip goes just as well!

    Cheers,

    Todd

  • Thanks Todd. If only our coastal cutthroats get just as big eh. ;)

  • nice dude

  • Wow! that was a crazy sea trout!

  • danish dynamite
