What I don't understand is why people think that these animals that belong in the wild could make possible pets for them and, even worse, substitute as "family members".
Having any pet that can overpower you seems like generally a bad idea. People get hurt by dogs that have nothing on an adult other than strong jaws. Chimpanzees are a couple times stronger than a person. It just seems counter-intuitive to even take these animals out of their natural habitats in the first place, whether they need to be 'saved' or not.

What I don't understand is why people think that these animals that belong in the wild could make possible pets for them and, even worse, substitute as "family members".

Having any pet that can overpower you seems like generally a bad idea. People get hurt by dogs that have nothing on an adult other than strong jaws. Chimpanzees are a couple times stronger than a person. It just seems counter-intuitive to even take these animals out of their natural habitats in the first place, whether they need to be 'saved' or not.

All I can say is that I feel just terrible for the woman that was mauled. Chimps, or other exotic animals, should never be kept as pets. How many maulings, be it the white tiger in Vegas, to the elephant attacks on handlers, to this chimp need to happen before poeple realize that these are WILD animals. They are not domesticated like dogs and cats are. No matter how cute or cool it may be to have one, please, DON'T BE STUPID!!!

@MuayThaiViking -the difference is in the numbers and frequency. The empirical and forensic evidence shows that black on white crime dwarfs white on black crime. And it's not a matter of socio-economics, it's genetic. There are tons of poor whites who don't commit nearly as much violent crime as blacks.
