I do agree with you that the engine sound is what matters. I typically turn off the radio when I drive, and you never ever get tired of that flat 6 mid-engine, believe me... ;)

I'm loving my 135i, that thing is absolutely torquey! An amazing bang for the buck!
But that's not the reason of this post! I've now driven the new Boxster S with the rear LSD and manual gearbox (last week in Stuttgart)... and I think you have to check it out when it becomes available to the general public. Those 310hp are unbelievable, the LSD gives a great feeling and the face-lift is very welcome!
Enjoy it! 135 does have a pretty nice engine (265 bhp right?) and it sounds great too... Not too fond of its looks, though, but I hear it's a great driver. Much better than the S3... ;)
Oh! Another thing: I would still kick your butt with my Boxster... ;)

Kind of ugly? Disagree! Well, at least not in the color I chose: Space gray. Not as sporty as the Boxter, of course, but then again, the 135i is a family hyper-hot hatch! You can cruise with all the confort, and then when you want to go to a track you kick Audi TTSs and BMW Z4s and Boxster and Cayman S's butts! It's only 200 kg heavier than the Boxster S man! I just test drove it for about 25 km, 2 times, so when I receive it, I'll love to explore those tight bends!
I'm totaly disagree about your opinion. The only advantage of 135i is that it has turbo-enjine. I'm not sure that in straight line your 135 will beat a boxter S with almost the same hp power and 200 lightiar. The best qualitie that Boxter has is taking corners with big speed without burning tires. Bmw forse you decrease speed when you want to take corner or your breech make overstaring. Porsche has one big quality it has the best breaking system.

Hey! You write perfectly clear... But sometimes posts make it hard to get the REAL meaning and tone of your words. This happens to us all, the same with emails. In any case, just keep in mind that I'm a true Porsche (and all sports cars) lover. Love driving, watch every F1 GP, belong to various Porsche online forums, go out driving with 30 other Porsches on weekends all the time, etc, etc.
And believe me: most of us do not care much about status, don't have that much €, but care much however for TRUE DRIVING experiences, and that's why we love Porsche. Yet I understand that this is hard to follow...

People, you give too much credit to Porsche! It's an amazing experience, I agree. But not the ultimate one. And I think you're getting a little affected because of the status a Porsche gives you (correct me if I'm wrong). If you're cool and interesting people, you won't need a premium car to prove that. Many times you make big financial efforts just to sustain a certain status quo, to prove something. That, I think, doesn't make sense, and the message it sends is definatelly not a cool one!
Those are thoughtful comments. There are definitely too many people who use cars to project an image. The other side of it, however, is that if you're just a simple gearhead, the current Boxster S is a beautiful thing, the culmination of years of focus and refinement and a statement of the current bleeding edge of automotive technology. That appeals to some people; it has nothing to do with status or bling or any of that stuff. Prejudging others is as bad as using a car to elevate yourself.
Hey, this is a FANTASTIC car. Even if money is no object, the current Boxster S may be the best all-round Porsche of them all. (I love the Cayman but (a) it isnt a convertible and (b) love that limited edition orange!). Thing is, if u drive any Porsche, then dealing with a-holes in inferior but hopped-up vehicles just comes with the territory. Even had guys in minivans try to race me. End of the day, ur still driving the Porsche, and they're not. They can never understand.

Hmm, about that twisty road I don´t know. The S3 has 4WD... If you're like Schummacher, your can slide through the corners, otherwise you'll fell much better in a 4WD.
But all this doesn't make any sense considering the new M3 with the DKG. I've been in one and it's the fastest thing (straight line, corner...) I've experienced!
The thing about the S3 in the straight line after green light is that it has a turbo engine and that of course helps... Now the official numbers say that both S3 and Boxster S do 1-100 in 5,5 secs. I think you probably faced a lousy driver. On the road, your 4WD, 265bhp, vs my RWD, 280 bhp + PASM... mmm, we'd need to go out for it ;) New M3 is nice... but I'll take the 997 Carrera S over it ;)
OK man, I admitt your car looks much better than mine (although its image is getting a little old). What I'm saying is that a car that's so much more expensive than mine turns out to be slower, and that's got to be annoying. Oh, and I don't think my S3 is exactly ugly man!
:) I actually admit I always liked the S3... It's a great, solid car, better than the GTI, right there with the BMW 130. However, when you buy a Porsche you don't think in terms of power, 1-100, top speed, and all than 'crap'. You buy an AMAZING ALL AROUND EXPERIENCE. Also, it sounds amazing, looks amazing (image getting old???), feels amazing. So I don't feel annoyed at all. Finally, I'll take your S3 to a curvy, mountain road and we'll see what happens... :)

I own a Boxster as well and would never buy a 911 unless I need the two seats in the back. If the Boxster would be at the 911 price and the 911 at the Boxster´s price, I would still go for the Boxster!

And for the average driver it is way easier to handle than the 911.

I never said that the Boxster can compare to the M6 nor the 430, but in it's class with the z4, s2000 and the slk 320 etc it is the bomb. Much because the bloodline to its sibling the 911. But comparing the 911 and the Boxster directly wouldn't be right, ofcourse there is a reason why Porsche differ them as you say. But this does not mean that it is slow. It deserves the Porsche badge by far! And in alpine passes the boxster is easier to outrun the 911 with.

You say that the boxster is an entry level car, yet the m3 isnt an entry level M car? The M3 isnt a 3 series! If you had driven or owned one you would know its acturlly a complty differnet car to the 3 series. The only things it has the same as the 330ci is the doors and the lights. I've owned an M3 and a Boxster S and feel the Boxster is quite the superior car in terms of handling, comfort, reliability, and fun. Plus, the Boster didn't require any "M" type of upgrade. The M3 was good for toting around the children, though, with the back seat. Kind of a girl's M5.

What we find .. me and my friends (Boxster) owners tend to be guys that dont know much about sports cars at all - guys who may have just got a pay rise and thrt theyd treat them selves. Not motor heads. I can see why - if you havnt driven anything amazing before the boxster would be great! Drive a 911 or Hell even my car! An M3 and youl shit your self after driving a Boxster and even a Boxster S. Its just the type of driver that buys the Boxster tends to be a poser rather than a Porsche man.

For sure - I have an M3 - personally I want buy a Porsche until I can afford a 911 Turbo - After driving them nothing else will do. The bad thing about driving top end cars! Same with Ferrari! I mean mines same speed as a 911 will keep me happy until I can splash out on a turbo. With many of my mates with my dream cars its hard to hold out.
Trust me! Have a drive! Its the most angry car iv driven! I do agree they arnt the best sounding cars! I think the Ferrari's, Aston Martins make a Porsche sound like crap. but the performance is ther! The CS is a very nice car aswl! Bt as I say the turbo is alot faster. Even the feel has alot more BANG! God its 0 - 100kms/hr in 3.7 seconds. Thats scary! Nerly makes the 911 feel like a honda. The CS has the beefy looks tho! Definitly not a slow car! Also the 4x4 is great on the track.
In a CS youl be eating 99.9% of other cars around on the road! Not bad! I think the 911 shape is one of the best shapes ever made for a car! Timeless - hasnt changed in around 40 years! Gota be good! In saying al this - if I had the money - the Ferraris on offer! Id take an F430 or 360 over the turbo anyday! Ferraris are in another league! After driving one - you will never want anything else!

Yea my Dads best mate drives his 360 like you would a honda civic - up the road to get milk anything! love it! Dosnt let it sit in the garage. Iv driven his old 355! My M3 is alot more fun and faster than the 355 i feel. But 355 is very nice! His 360 - which iv also driven is alot more car! Eats mine and sounds like heaven. He didnt buy the F430 as they didnt have it in red.. wish I had money like that. Its a five year waiting list for a F430 here!
The Boxster is a great car and is a good bit of fun - however next to the other cars n the range and other cars on the market e.g. BMW - its a bit of a badge boys car. Meaning people tend to buy it because they can afford a Porsche - not because its a impressive sports car. Drive an 911 or a M coupe BMW then tell me its really fast.
Your Boxster sucks because it has no options at all... go with the Carbon Fibre, Navigation, Ceramic Brakes, Full leather interior with adaptive sports and smooth natural nappa interior, and 19" Turbo rims and Special GT Silver Metallic Paint, and the price will climb into $170 000

I do agree with you that the engine sound is what matters. I typically turn off the radio when I drive, and you never ever get tired of that flat 6 mid-engine, believe me... ;)

But that's not the reason of this post! I've now driven the new Boxster S with the rear LSD and manual gearbox (last week in Stuttgart)... and I think you have to check it out when it becomes available to the general public. Those 310hp are unbelievable, the LSD gives a great feeling and the face-lift is very welcome!

Enjoy it! 135 does have a pretty nice engine (265 bhp right?) and it sounds great too... Not too fond of its looks, though, but I hear it's a great driver. Much better than the S3... ;)

Kind of ugly? Disagree! Well, at least not in the color I chose: Space gray. Not as sporty as the Boxter, of course, but then again, the 135i is a family hyper-hot hatch! You can cruise with all the confort, and then when you want to go to a track you kick Audi TTSs and BMW Z4s and Boxster and Cayman S's butts! It's only 200 kg heavier than the Boxster S man! I just test drove it for about 25 km, 2 times, so when I receive it, I'll love to explore those tight bends!

I'm totaly disagree about your opinion. The only advantage of 135i is that it has turbo-enjine. I'm not sure that in straight line your 135 will beat a boxter S with almost the same hp power and 200 lightiar. The best qualitie that Boxter has is taking corners with big speed without burning tires. Bmw forse you decrease speed when you want to take corner or your breech make overstaring. Porsche has one big quality it has the best breaking system.

People, you give too much credit to Porsche! It's an amazing experience, I agree. But not the ultimate one. And I think you're getting a little affected because of the status a Porsche gives you (correct me if I'm wrong). If you're cool and interesting people, you won't need a premium car to prove that. Many times you make big financial efforts just to sustain a certain status quo, to prove something. That, I think, doesn't make sense, and the message it sends is definatelly not a cool one!

Those are thoughtful comments. There are definitely too many people who use cars to project an image. The other side of it, however, is that if you're just a simple gearhead, the current Boxster S is a beautiful thing, the culmination of years of focus and refinement and a statement of the current bleeding edge of automotive technology. That appeals to some people; it has nothing to do with status or bling or any of that stuff. Prejudging others is as bad as using a car to elevate yourself.

Hey, this is a FANTASTIC car. Even if money is no object, the current Boxster S may be the best all-round Porsche of them all. (I love the Cayman but (a) it isnt a convertible and (b) love that limited edition orange!). Thing is, if u drive any Porsche, then dealing with a-holes in inferior but hopped-up vehicles just comes with the territory. Even had guys in minivans try to race me. End of the day, ur still driving the Porsche, and they're not. They can never understand.

Hmm, about that twisty road I don´t know. The S3 has 4WD... If you're like Schummacher, your can slide through the corners, otherwise you'll fell much better in a 4WD.
But all this doesn't make any sense considering the new M3 with the DKG. I've been in one and it's the fastest thing (straight line, corner...) I've experienced!

The thing about the S3 in the straight line after green light is that it has a turbo engine and that of course helps... Now the official numbers say that both S3 and Boxster S do 1-100 in 5,5 secs. I think you probably faced a lousy driver. On the road, your 4WD, 265bhp, vs my RWD, 280 bhp + PASM... mmm, we'd need to go out for it ;) New M3 is nice... but I'll take the 997 Carrera S over it ;)

:) I actually admit I always liked the S3... It's a great, solid car, better than the GTI, right there with the BMW 130. However, when you buy a Porsche you don't think in terms of power, 1-100, top speed, and all than 'crap'. You buy an AMAZING ALL AROUND EXPERIENCE. Also, it sounds amazing, looks amazing (image getting old???), feels amazing. So I don't feel annoyed at all. Finally, I'll take your S3 to a curvy, mountain road and we'll see what happens... :)

I'll add this: the difference is that I don't have any problems at all with Nissan's users, I do like the sound of the 350z. But it seems there are plenty of users who have a problem with Boxsters - although they are the one to beat in the roadster's category in EVERY review I've read (show me otherwise if you can)

I own a Boxster as well and would never buy a 911 unless I need the two seats in the back. If the Boxster would be at the 911 price and the 911 at the Boxster´s price, I would still go for the Boxster!

ohh and copy this site and see the comparison of the 2. The z has better sound more watts, more hp, more tq, yes the boxster weight is just a lil bit lighter but still the z takes it , the z was made 50 50 engine moved back and gas tank a little to the front and ur in the center making it a really great cornering ride also , and more miles per gallon while the porsche has 16 the z has 20-23

Boxter S are curently comming 1st,2nd and 3rd in the NSW Porsche Club championship, have a look at there website. P.S BMWs suffer from snap oversteer (if u have actually driven one), the M3 is only for the wife to take the kids shopping.

Saying that the M3 is a completely different car than the 3 series is the funniest thing I have heard so far today. Do you honestly believe that BMW creates a brand new platform for each of their M series models? The M3 is based on the 3 series chassis, yet modiefied, hence the name M3,5 and 6 etc.

And to say the 993 is slow is like shooting yourself in the nuts. Ok sp everything is relative, the Boxster is a snail tortoise compared to the CGT or the 959, but come on! in its class I think it is unbeatable. And for the average driver it is way easier to handle than the 911.

I never said that the Boxster can compare to the M6 nor the 430, but in it's class with the z4, s2000 and the slk 320 etc it is the bomb. Much because the bloodline to its sibling the 911. But comparing the 911 and the Boxster directly wouldn't be right, ofcourse there is a reason why Porsche differ them as you say. But this does not mean that it is slow. It deserves the Porsche badge by far! And in alpine passes the boxster is easier to outrun the 911 with.

Firstly i like both the m3 and the boxster, both have their pros and cons. But some of the things you say is ridiculus. You say that the boxster is an entry level car, yet the m3 isnt an entry level M car? Good cars arnt necessarily about the money, there are people that want to buy a convertible rather than spending double for a 911 convertible. Hell id buy an m3 over a m5 or m6, at the same time id buy a boxster over a 911. Cause i dont intent to buy a car that is worth as much as a house.

The M3 isnt a 3 series! If you had driven or owned one you would know its acturlly a complty differnet car to the 3 series. The only things it has the same as the 330ci is the doors and the lights. The M3 is much wider and more riged completly new body. Mate you drive a slow girls car! Your a poser haha go lose at the lights to a 15 year old in a WRX.

I've owned an M3 and a Boxster S and feel the Boxster is quite the superior car in terms of handling, comfort, reliability, and fun. Plus, the Boster didn't require any "M" type of upgrade. The M3 was good for toting around the children, though, with the back seat. Kind of a girl's M5.

That comment proves you dont and havnt owned an M3..E46 at least! The M3 has the best stght 6 engine in the world in it. It has won around 8 - 9 international awards (best car, best engine..many times. Best N/A engine) Its as fast as a 911 and is much more agresive and powerful than even a new Boxster S..so hardly a kids toting car.. The M3 isnt an M upgrade its a M BMW car. thats like saying the 911 is an upgraded Boxster.. its not its just a better faster different car.

What we find .. me and my friends (Boxster) owners tend to be guys that dont know much about sports cars at all - guys who may have just got a pay rise and thrt theyd treat them selves. Not motor heads. I can see why - if you havnt driven anything amazing before the boxster would be great! Drive a 911 or Hell even my car! For sure - I have an M3 - personally I want buy a Porsche until I can afford a 911 Turbo - After driving them nothing else will do. The bad thing about driving top end cars! Same with Ferrari! I mean mines same speed as a 911 will keep me happy until I can splash out on a turbo. With many of my mates with my dream cars its hard to hold out.

Trust me! Have a drive! Its the most angry car iv driven! I do agree they arnt the best sounding cars! I think the Ferrari's, Aston Martins make a Porsche sound like crap. but the performance is ther! The CS is a very nice car aswl! Bt as I say the turbo is alot faster. Even the feel has alot more BANG! God its 0 - 100kms/hr in 3.7 seconds. Thats scary! Nerly makes the 911 feel like a honda. The CS has the beefy looks tho! Definitly not a slow car! Also the 4x4 is great on the track.

Yea my Dads best mate drives his 360 like you would a honda civic - up the road to get milk anything! love it! Dosnt let it sit in the garage. Iv driven his old 355! My M3 is alot more fun and faster than the 355 i feel. But 355 is very nice! His 360 - which iv also driven is alot more car! Eats mine and sounds like heaven. He didnt buy the F430 as they didnt have it in red.. wish I had money like that. Its a five year waiting list for a F430 here!

The Boxster is a great car and is a good bit of fun - however next to the other cars n the range and other cars on the market e.g. BMW - its a bit of a badge boys car. Meaning people tend to buy it because they can afford a Porsche - not because its a impressive sports car. Drive an 911 or a M coupe BMW then tell me its really fast.
