The GMC at 1:02 looks like some of our old spares, RIP:-( they were replaced with on CE200 (boo) and some Mid 90's Bluebird Internationals. I liked those old school buses, they ran well, and I rode them 73% of the time. My normal bus is a CE200 (again boo).
Why would they have to retire buses? The old ones don't seem to be built much diffrent. I could see if they are more safe but I don't see any major changes. They don't get miles on them like there non modified truck partners. I drove international trucks of the near same model. The only diffrence is the cab not being a cut away. And that sucker had ten times the miles that any of those buses have and it ran great and was reliable. Nice slide show!!!
@thomasfreightliner, i saw one of the old bus still in service since new, 1991 chevy carpetner bus (unless i'm wrong), THE ONLY OLDEST bus still in service, my guess, long it passes state safety inspection, it still be running, if i ever get a chance, i'll get a video of the bus at the school bus parking space next time
@thomasfreightliner That's funny b/c my district has kept some 22 year old Waynes and 18 year old BlueBirds. That's the way I like it though. Old=Better, anyway Wayne Lifeguards are my favorite.
Lol. I'm 23 and can remember riding a great many of these busses to school and breaking down often. Needless to say, that was in a public school in a poor NC County, where we rode the same busses that our parents did. lol.
that is very funny uncwboy cause in the county where I live in (near atlanta) the county school system used all blue bird buses. The county where I lived in was rural but now it is growing.
is there a bus biger than the bus i ride when i am coming home from school becouse at last 3 people got to sit on the floor that is how packed my fucking bus is it is not log for everyone to have a place to sit
I came to like Bluebird they were the only manufacturer to offer different chassis until a couple of years ago, They had GMC, Chevy, International. But as you all know, everyone doing their own thing now. I recently saw a pic of the Blue Bird vision on a ford chassis from 2001 0r 2002, it was a prototype. I'd sure wish that would have went into production.
I started training yesterday on a 1992 Blue Bird school bus,(124,000 miles)as soon as I met the instructor he told me to get into the drivers seat. Hardest part was learning the steps to the pre trip, especially the 5 air breaks test. I have 8 more lessons to go before I take my CDL road test next month.
A lot of switches, knobs, lights to get used to. The rearview mirror inside the bus was very high, just checked the outside mirrors while driving.
It depends in what district you live in. For example, I live in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana and I think they start you off at around $20 and hr. driving for the school board.
why is the bus at 0:27 plugged in to an outlet?
Stickymajorwow 2 months ago
@Stickymajorwow either an oil heater or battery maintenance during off season.

I would like to take a totalled school bus and put it up in a tree and make it into a treehouse. Because thats what I call downcycling!
With heavy gas guzzlers like buses; we might as well be more creative about retiring them from bus fleets.
