I've had this camera about a year now. I've had to bring it back for repair. The problem I had was the zoom had such a loud grinding sound while zooming that it could be heard on the recorded video. I had purchased an extended warranty and after getting it back from repair, (they claimed they replaced the lens and housing) it still makes the same noise when zooming. Anyone else had this problem?
How do you get the picture so clear?? With the brightness/color settings, I am using this camera for makeup tutorials but it doesn't pick up the color properly, how would I fix that? Thanks!
@LONGHAIREDMEXICAN It does a fairly good job of keeping up with fast moving things, but these days there might be something better out that would also work, so keep your options open.

@SteezeyNuggets to take off steady shot open up your lcd screen an on the side you should see O.I.S. then click that. I have a fisheye too and it worked
@SheepDoggOne The feel and mic are both very nice. The low light setting's aren't the best, but it does have some backlight compensation and if you aren't moving a lot, you could use magicpix which allows you to record better in low light but is really choppy. Hope this helped!

@Hydrohid Possibly.... But you better be filming with a tripod or the shakiness of the camera will ruin the improved quality, if there is any. If there is it may be so small you can hardly tell a difference. If that little bit is worth the effort to keep it from shaking, go for it. However I don't know for sure if there even is improved quality, do some tests I suppose.

@msm1914 I don't know much about fisheye lens. I've never used one on this camcorder, all I know is that it is supposed to work. Perhaps you could turn the camcorder off before removing the lens? I'm afraid this isn't my area of expertise.
I have one of these and for the money, it is a good device. I agree with original reviewer (blacklink83) that HD is not all its cracked out to be, maybe on a $1000/£1000 pro spec camera but not on a prosumer camera that users use for you-tube etc..
This camera isnt as good as your saying it is :/ Ive had mine sense last year and the only time the quality is decent is when your outside in the sunlight. Anyother time it just sucks. :( My digital camera records better videos than this thing. Oh & youtube ruins the quality of the video most of the time + the coloring is completely off, it makes everything look dull..I was pretty disappointed in the camcorder.
@omgkacie That's why reviews like this exist, so that you can see examples and hear others' opinions before you go and buy something. I'll tell you, probably about 75% of disappointments in a product could've been prevented if the people did proper research before buying it. Better luck next time.

Saying HD isnt whats its cracked up to be has to be the most bias comment ever.Almost could say a hater. You can say what you like i dont realy care but you cannot compare standard quality with HD resolution and pixels.If HD wasnt all its cracked up to be than the movie industrie would record in standard.Big zoom is awesome, but not something i or any professional for that matter would go over video quality.U can stil attach scope to a HD cam but u cant attach HD in that cam.

i would like to ask a question. why is it that when i record a video in 16:9 widescreen format and record it in XP ( which i suppose is HD, since SP and LP are lower quality looking ), and upload it to YouTube, the video on YouTube displays as 4:3 and looks like shit ?
@johnathon124 Are you running it through Windows Movie Maker? If you are, it automatically resizes it to 4:3 unless you go to Tools, Options, and then click 16:9. Please let me know if that helped.

You can record on Web Mode, which will be in a different format. Other than that, all format changes must be done on the computer using a MOD to (insert desired format here) converter
No one I have asked can tell me why a camera would be made to record in a video format (Mpeg4 in this case) that is not accepted by Windows Movie Maker, only the most common world wide movie editing software in the world!
I actually don't know much about macs. I don't own one I'm afriad. On the box it says "Mac and iMovie compatible". That's about all I know. However, with most computers there is more than one way to do things. For example, have you seen my latest vid about Windows Movie Maker? I used a card reader to upload stuff. However, USB is also an option. If you have a PC somewhere in your house you could upload it there and then use a flash drive to switch it to your mac. Hope that helped!
I don't think so, but I'm not sure I'm afraid I lost the usb cable, I'm trying to find it however I upload my vids by putting the SD card in the card reader so it's not a huge priority right now. I'll check back if I discover something

sorry, it's been awhile, maybe you've already found an answer. Have you watched my latest video, it might help. If that doesn't work I strongly recommend getting a video converter. There are many free video converters on the internet, hope this helps!
If you mean a self-timer, like one you use to give you 10 seconds to quickly get in a picture with your family, then yes. But only for the photo taker, not for the video taker.
I think so. That what I assumed seeing that XP allows less recording time than SP which allows less recording time than LP. This is probably because higher quality recording takes up more space, therefore you can't do as much of that as you can with a lower quality.
overall the camera is really good, i dont know if its just my camera or its just a feature i dont understand but i have this problem where it zooms in automatically... its fustrating when im filming i have to hold down the zoom out button.. does anyone else have this problem? if you know a way to stop this please let me know
I've never had this problem but maybe if you go to the menu and reset the settings, that could help. I would write down any settings you've changed since you opened it up from the box, so that you can put them back later.
Run it through Windows Movie Maker which will convert the file to WMV which Youtube will like much better than the MOD format you get from direct uploading. Watch my Windows Movie Maker help video if you need to.
I'm sorry, I don't know what could be wrong. I've never had that happen to me. You could try downloading a free video converter and convert it to something more friendly to WMM. But if it doesn't upload then, I have no idea.

They say it should be MPEG2 because it automatically converts it to that in the VideoCam Suite software they give you. If you just directly upload it from your camera without using that software, it'll show up as MOD. Just run it through Windows Movie Maker to convert it to WMV and Youtube will take it. Watch my Windows Movie Maker help video if you need to.
that's because the VideoCam Suite software converts it for you. This is Panasonic's way of saying it will be MPEG2 without actually putting that into the camera. They believe that there is no alternative to uploading besides through their software. If you want it to be MPEG 2 then just upload it through VideoCam Suite.

You can record on Web Mode, which will be in a different format. Other than that, all format changes must be done on the computer using a MOD to (insert desired format here) converter

No one I have asked can tell me why a camera would be made to record in a video format (Mpeg4 in this case) that is not accepted by Windows Movie Maker, only the most common world wide movie editing software in the world!

I actually don't know much about macs. I don't own one I'm afriad. On the box it says "Mac and iMovie compatible". That's about all I know. However, with most computers there is more than one way to do things. For example, have you seen my latest vid about Windows Movie Maker? I used a card reader to upload stuff. However, USB is also an option. If you have a PC somewhere in your house you could upload it there and then use a flash drive to switch it to your mac. Hope that helped!

I don't think so, but I'm not sure I'm afraid I lost the usb cable, I'm trying to find it however I upload my vids by putting the SD card in the card reader so it's not a huge priority right now. I'll check back if I discover something

Indeed, the camera is working fine and in 4 days, it'll be 5 months since I've gotten it and it still works great. The fun part is that I keep discovering new features to it. Glad you liked the review!

sorry, it's been awhile, maybe you've already found an answer. Have you watched my latest video, it might help. If that doesn't work I strongly recommend getting a video converter. There are many free video converters on the internet, hope this helps!

If you mean a self-timer, like one you use to give you 10 seconds to quickly get in a picture with your family, then yes. But only for the photo taker, not for the video taker.

the h80 saves to an internal hard drive. As opposed to this one that saves to an SD card.

I think so. That what I assumed seeing that XP allows less recording time than SP which allows less recording time than LP. This is probably because higher quality recording takes up more space, therefore you can't do as much of that as you can with a lower quality.

overall the camera is really good, i dont know if its just my camera or its just a feature i dont understand but i have this problem where it zooms in automatically... its fustrating when im filming i have to hold down the zoom out button.. does anyone else have this problem? if you know a way to stop this please let me know

I've never had this problem but maybe if you go to the menu and reset the settings, that could help. I would write down any settings you've changed since you opened it up from the box, so that you can put them back later.

Run it through Windows Movie Maker which will convert the file to WMV which Youtube will like much better than the MOD format you get from direct uploading. Watch my Windows Movie Maker help video if you need to.

I'm sorry, I don't know what could be wrong. I've never had that happen to me. You could try downloading a free video converter and convert it to something more friendly to WMM. But if it doesn't upload then, I have no idea.

What format does everyone elses record to, because its meant to be MPEG2 but mine records to this wierd format called MOD and i have to convert the clips,

They say it should be MPEG2 because it automatically converts it to that in the VideoCam Suite software they give you. If you just directly upload it from your camera without using that software, it'll show up as MOD. Just run it through Windows Movie Maker to convert it to WMV and Youtube will take it. Watch my Windows Movie Maker help video if you need to.

So far i converted it into MPEG2 using a converter, i just wandered if there was something wrong with the camera because it says it should be mpeg2.

that's because the VideoCam Suite software converts it for you. This is Panasonic's way of saying it will be MPEG2 without actually putting that into the camera. They believe that there is no alternative to uploading besides through their software. If you want it to be MPEG 2 then just upload it through VideoCam Suite.
