the updated version is not as much fun to play as the original (turbo grafx). I played this game and beat it 3 times. i would have to say that this is my favorite game of all time. you can download this on the Wii virtua console for a nominal fee.

I played it a little bit for the Wii Virtual console. Not quite as good.

The Playstation Nectaris version had a cheesy storyline, but the extras were good, including extra maps created in some contest (most likely in Japan) to playt.

Plus you could create your own maps (placement of units) to use.

I didn't see this in the Wii Virtual Console version.

Let me just first say i love advance wars, played them all except the first, and i dont want to come off as a hater lol.

But man this game beats the pants off it seriously. The main things that i like more are the hexagon layout and the ZoC. The zones of control system is kind of complicated once you start out but once you understand it, its awesome. And the hexagons don't seem any better than squares until you start playing. I cant wait until the remake hits arcade, new units, CO's, etc.

Believe it or not, there's THREE

Military Madness games out in 2009:

1.) Military Madness 2 for cellphones. It's a modified version of Neo Nectaris released in 1994 on PC-Engine Super CD-ROM2 aka Turbo Duo. This was released some months ago.

2.) Military Madness for Android OS portables, it's a 2D remake of the original game. I think it's already out.

3.) Military Madness: Nectaris, the new 3D remake of the original game for XBLA-Xbox360, PSN-PS3 and Wii Ware.

Let's examine that statement shall we? In Nectaris each unit has an effect on 7 tiles, in Advance Wars each unit only effects the tile he's standing on. In Nectaris you have to use strategy to protect important units, in Advance Wars you can rebuild them.

Gameplay wise, the only thing that's more advanced in Advance Wars was the fog of war, and that was just boring shit.

No, Advance Wars' advantages over Nectaris lies anywhere else but it's "advanced" gameplay.

Military Madness is worth it for any fan of simple strategy games. It's an entirely different game than Advance Wars and so both games are worth having.

However, if money is a concern you might want to consider just try the freeware Windows version. Google "NFG Games Guide to Nectaris", the official mirrors are down. Probably because of the VC release.

Nectaris / Military Madness has something that all the games of the Nintendo Wars series, including Advance Wars, lacks. That is ZOC (Zone Of Control). ZOC beefs up the defense & offense performance of your units and weakens that of your enemy. There is also terrain effects. When ZOC + terrain effects are combined, they can produce devastating results for either side. This is something not found in Advance Wars.

Also, I've played the shit out of both Advance Wars and this, they're both excellent strategy games, but with different strengths.
