  • poor thing misses his home...the dessert not ur house.

  • Is he a lesser jerboa?

    He's lovely :)

  • Where can I buy a Jerboa in the US?

  • @Codejunky they have been banned in the US for a while now

  • @risudegu So why are they banned in th U.S.....how 'harmful' can these little guys be!

  • @GreatLash75 How harmful can a cute little bunny rabbit be? They are not native to Australia and were brought there as game for hunters. Because there are no 'natural' predators for the rabbit over there Australia is really over run and it's a big problem. Yes local animals will hunt a new species but rabbits and rodents reproduce at a much higher rate then predators do. Rabbits can have up to 5-10 babies a time and start breeding as early as 3 months old. You do the math.

  • @GreatLash75 Jerboas can live up to 6 years in the wild and mate around twice a year. They have litters of 2-6 and are ready to reproduce as early as 14 weeks. They live twice as long as your average rat.

  • @risudegu Its sad when plants and animals are banned but they are for good reason. Usually they are invasive and would end up crowding out the native species.

  • @risudegu Are they banned in Australia?

  • He seems very happy..love watching him once in a while.

  • She gets dirty just to clean herself all over again lmao. This should be on Daily Squee!

  • MAS ESPACIO PARA EL ¡¡¡

  • That's a Greater Egyptian Jerboa. As to where to buy them, no idea.

  • He's adorable, but you need to clean up his poops.

  • @brassflower Those poops are probably just from the past 5 mins. Haven t you ever owned a rodent? Very dirty creatures.

  • is jerboa the rat-kangaroo? or is another specie like rat-kangaroo? or perhaps are rat-kangaroo races?

Uhhh dude pretty sure those are illegle in most of the states man.

If you live in UK n shit or somewhere else then google it man.

  • oh lol i live in the usa ima bout to move tooo london i think lol

  • Actually, they are legal in the US.

In some states they require special paperwork and such to own, but you can own them as pets.

Breeders for them are extremely hard to find, though.

  • So adorable! I want one! D:

  • i was just wondering, i live in michigan and i live in a quiet apartment. i would really love to get a jerboa since i've done alot of research on them. they are very hard to find. i know theres a gazillion comments about where you got it. but if you know any breeders in the metro detroit area let me know!

  • that is IT!!! I am getting one as a pet n matter what! I love them so much! I just want to snuggle them!

  • Are these good pets? Are they social/playful? Or are they skiddish biters? lol

  • oops i mean *legs rofl

  • omg its sooooo adorable i really want one

wait its the long eared jerboa thats going extinct right?

is that a greater egyptian jerboa?

lol the way she stretches her kegs is so funny XD

  • lol my Leopard geckos name is Gizmo lol

  • It's badenough she looks like that, does she hav to move like that?! Cute little turd bird!

  • Absolutely precious!! I love the big ole stretch at the beginning.

Gizmo looks like he has a very god home!

  • pika-CHU!!

  • Aren't these creatures close to extinction?

  • Gizi was a Greater Egyptian Jerboa and is rated "Least Concern" on the red list. There are however Jerboas that are higher risk and some very near extinction (like the Iranian Jerboa).

  • i think so

  • Absolutely ADORABLE! Hahaha I love the stretching in the beginning. <3

Reminds me of my degus. ^-^

  • Are there any jerboa breeders in MA? I really want one! I can't find a breeder anywhere.

  • Cle-an, clean, clean, clean, clean! Cle--e-ean, clean, clean, clean, clean! This little darling is comfortable enough with its surroundings to take a bath right out in the open. It has its owner well-trained! Lovely video of a beloved pet!

  • 2:18 *streeeeeetch* So cute!

  • The only thing even close to abuse shown in this video is the size of the cage. He needs more running room, but compared to the cage size that most pet rabbits are forced to live their miserable existence in, he seems to have it pretty good.

As for him 'running away from the man,' my mouse will never just run onto my hand and hates getting picked up, but she loves being held. They associate being picked up with leaving home, they're not smart enough to make another connection to it.

  • The pen was only a temp thing I set up on the floor for her to play in the dust bath. Her cage is actually quite a bit bigger. Her "run room" was the entire kitchen (blocked from other rooms for easier recollection and clean up).

  • WTF THAT AINT A DEGU LOL WHAT IS THAT

  • So, what Pokemon is this? What powers does it have, and what does it evolve into???

  • @2degucitas i think it's Rachiu, powers, ear hearing for bugs and other things,

it evolves in toooooooooooooooooo....idk...But who cares? it has powers and Rachiu looks!

    and it's cute! xD

  • @2degucitas this is Raichu evolution of pikachu. if you look it up you will see raichu has the longer feet and tail compared to pikachu.

  • @2degucitas Its mew and I think it can learn every move in existance

  • @2degucitas Pokédex, " Raichu, a Mouse Pokémon of the Electric element. Raichu is the evolved form of Pikachu. It can shock with more than 100,000 volts."

  • @dannydathua Thanks!!

  • @dannydathua: Actually, Bulbapedia states that Mew looks most like a gerboa. -3-

  • Jerboadorable~!

  • Castlevania?

  • Final Fantasy don't remember which one I paused to record her on.

  • you should buy her some makeup...

  • stop 0:15 rofl xD

  • OHMYGODWHYISITSOCUTE.

  • how well does it get along with your degus? or can you keep them together at all?

  • I've never left them unsupervised together but Gizmo was curious. The degus reacted about as their personality dictated. Risu wanted little to do with her and Watanuki was oblivious to her (she was not food therefore uninteresting).

  • Where can you buy one of these? It's so cute!

  • They are human friendly! But only if you don't scare them first.

They will come to you if you put your hand in the cave.

Try searching the web for jaculus jaculus!

Dont know where you can get them, all i know is that i'm getting one for my birthday! =D

  • No you aren't.

Jerboas don't need to be in captivity, their ears are too sensitive for how loud we live.

You have to adjust your lifestyle, and I honestly doubt the average youtube poster has the smarts for it

  • These look really cool. Where did you get him? Are they human friendly?

  • Its not fguly or weird looking, its Unique in its own way (:

Isn't it a sweet lil thang..

Whr can u buy this ? Its so lovely.

But i was wondering... the height of when it jumps kinda scare me.. does it allow humans to touch it ? and does it bites? thanks!

  • She's definitely cute.

  • She's so graceful in her jumps.

  • Heh, don't worry, MOST people probably have enough experience with small mammals to see that she's happy. At worst, maybe a little itchy.

And the rescue animal thing explains why she's not terribly keen on hand petting her.

Ever noticed the correlation between grammar/spelling and intelligence? (Referring to the abysmal speller who thinks she's terrified... not sure exactly WHY though.)

  • Adorable pet btw, if I wasn't worried that the small bugger would sneak out and escape somewhere I'd really want one. Or two, so it has company.

  • That is a very unique looking creature. I just found out about this species today and I have to say, it is a very interesting critter. If I were to have a rodent for a pet, I would definitely look into trying to get one or a pair for pets. Gizmo looks so strange when it stretches out its back legs, they are so huge compared to the rest of the body.

  • It seems to be quite the energetic animal. Do you ever let it out? I wonder if it's as smart as a rat in that rats tend to be very good at solving physical puzzles/obstacles.

  • I'd "block off" the kitchen for her since it was an easy clean up room. She was an amazing jumper highest vertical I saw her do was about three feet up which is why i quote the blocking off of a room. If she wanted to escape she'd be gone. She loved knot toys. Within a few hours she'd have the knot out and the rope un-woven.

  • Have we all been watching the same video? Where are these 'dust mites'? And at what point is it seen as being 'terrified'?

Usually, if an animal is seen to be cleaning itself in such a way, it is pretty happy and content with its surroundings, and by no means scared.

And by playing in the sand and dust, thats actually its own little way of cleanliness. So stop worrying peeps :)

  • How is she terrified? She's a true nocturnal rodent and has huge eyes for the need. You've not had many rodents. A rodent when threatened doesn't "pop-corn", bathe, or in any way leave themselves exposed.

  • I ain't a jerboa or anything, but to me an animal taking the time to clean his tail isn't scared by something.

If I were threatened, I wouldn't take a shower, and I guess it's pretty much the same for animals.

That little funny mouse looks great to me. Having fun and cleaning herself in the sandbox...

  • Haha exactly the point I was getting at!

And by the way, risudego, Gizmo is adorable.

  • You perspective is off. The music is the only sound in the room. Listen to the video you can even hear the soft sound of the sand moving as she steps in it and pushes it around.

But since you assume to be all knowing Gizmo was a rescue rodent. I adopted her in a malnourished and very neglected state. In this video her fur has not all grown back from the patches where cage scum had been matted into it for so long it was infected(also part of why she shied away when I touched her head).

  • how is this a terrified behavior, it's not hiding or hunkered in a corner or anything. You obviously do not know what a terrified animal looks like. Plus, using proper grammar and spelling would help out a *lot*

  • I didn't mean to criticize btw. Just letting you know. That is a beautiful pet, and clearly you care about it.

  • dust mites? Because there are poopies on the poo paper or because she's using a dust bath to remove the excess oils from her fur?

  • Let me not be too hasty in jumping to conclusions, because you do offer a reasonable explanation. But you're fooling yourself if you think creatures writh around only to remove excess oils. It's the parasites that thrive on those flakes of skin and oil.

(I'm allergic to the damned things, and have to clean my sheets pathologically. They. Are. Everywhere.)

  • I love the tail :D

  • This is impossibly cute.

  • Are you playing a Final Fantasy game in the background or something? It sounds like video game music.

  • its scares me so much

  • SO CUTE! And what is that music?

  • what is that thing? doesnt look like a chinchilla at all!

  • That's because it's a jerboa lol!

  • looks like kangaroo rat

  • omg what is it doing with its legs at the beginning?? its so scary!!

  • Where did you get a jerboa from? It looks like a gerbil's cousin.

  • long ancient cousin, that is o_o

  • Do you own a gerbil?

  • its so freaking cute! oh my god! where on earth did you get it? and how do you take care of it?

  • You shouldn't use chinchilla dust. Same reason why you can't use it for gerbils. Clogs up their lungs.

  • urban legend. Gerbils naturaly live in very dusty desert, they should be fine with a bit of dust!

  • Actually it isn't. It causes respiratory problems and in time death. I don't know about any jerboa species, however.

  • that doesn't even look like chinchilla dust :/

  • lol:

    "OOOOHHHH yeah"

    "strechyyyyyy strecth...ahhhh, thats SO good"

  • She is so sweet! It is a lady! She even cleans her tail:)

  • 2:18, ROFL!! JERBOAS rock!!!!!!!!

  • That's easily the cutest thing in history. I want one so much T_T

  • Aw!

  • Interesting looking pet you got there O.o

  • Nice video...!

  • Ya. I'm interested to know how to get one of these. I've looked for them on Amazon. No luck. But hey, if we can't get them from Africa because of monkey pox, what about from Egypt? "Egyptian Jerboa"

  • Egypt is a country in the cont. of Africa

  • NO! MY HOPES ARE SHATTERED! Are you sure it isn't part of Russia?

  • I've been looking up how to get this animal forever.

    How did you buy one?

    How much did it cost?

    Please send me a message

  • I love watching her looooooooooong legs in the beginning. What video game are you playing in the background?

  • I think I was playing one of the final fantasy ones at the time

  • I have a question..

    is this animals rare?

in italy there arent some of this pet..

there are only gerbils or duprasi..

  • I'm not sure of Italy's stand on them but Gizmo's species is from Africa and while I've read mixed things (everything from endangered to overpopulated pests) the USA has banned them from being imported due to a rodent scare involving monkeypox.

  • Hmm.. I thought Jerboas were much smaller with HUUUGE ears. He's very cute and silly though! ^^ I wonder why you cant breed them though?

  • ok! now im confussed. ;/ are jerboa's and Kangaroo rats the same? I all ways was told one was red listed and the other was commonly sold. they look sim. but differnt at the same time.

  • Animal kingdom cousins as far as I can tell. Kangaroo rats can be found wild in the USA, jerboas tend to be an africa, asia rodent of a similar type.

  • While both members of the Order Rodentia, jerboas are part of the family "Dipodidae" while kangaroo rats are members of "Hetermyidae". They do look fairly similar though and at first glance I thought this was actually a banner-tailed kangaroo rat but I actually believe it is a Lesser Egyptian Jerboa (Jaculus jaculus).

  • Is that the only cage enrichment u have???

  • That isn't even her cage it is a little pen i set up on the floor in the living room.

  • THE EVIL HAND!!! LOLZ

  • we've sold them at the petshop i work at but they retailed at £150 a pair ($299) id stick with gerbils personaly much more handable, and they sleep in shifts rather than being knocturnal so there up in the day!

  • OMG!!! Its soo cute!! Ive been trying to find out how to get one of these for WEEKS!!

  • THEY LOOK SO CREEPY YET CUTE

  • omg their SSOOO!!!!! cute!!!!

  • Hi Risudegu, great video. A few years back I actually owned 2 of them! Had them for a couple of years, then had to find a new owner when I moved to europe :(. Sure miss them! For those interested, Jerboa don't drink water. I didn't believe it, so I placed a clean bowl everyday.. and they never drank. Amazing.

  • aww it's sweet!I have to admit i was worried when i saw the words "gerboa" but i'm glad i read your comments an saw that it's not such an endangered one. hehe it looks so funny when it stretches ^^ i really want a chinchilla, are they related at all?

  • Chinchillas and jerboas are both rodents - that's their closest relationship :)

  • I think its illegal to have a Jerboa. It would be best to turn it into an animal sanctuary....

  • illegal to import african animals ownership is fine. Don't worry all my papers have been filed to the proper authorities :p

  • wait, so in order to own one, you have to sign papers? Where you from?
