I'm an indigenous Fijian that's lived most of my life in Australia and been fortunate enough to reach the middle class through successful business ventures & a lot of luck. That being said, I hope to return to my country of birth & make a meaningful contribution any way I can, if Frank lives true to his word eradicating long established corruption & tribal nepotism, I would definitely have less reservations about my doing so

It would profit some of the commentators here to think about what countries are mentioned giving support to this regime.

Before the British there was and still is Fijian society. As an American of African descent I found the interview quite interesting and informative since I knew little about Fiji other than it's location. I agree that Australia and NZ should tend to their own affairs and let the people of Fiji determine their own destiny. While his intentions and some of his methods are certainly commendable, there are some lines one does not cross lightly.
For instance: A constitution is iron clad. That is the sole reason for a constitution. A sentence starting with "The situational(/inactive/suspended etc) constitution ..." makes as much sense as a sentence starting with "The married bachelor ..."
It would profit some of the commentators here to think about what countries are mentioned giving support to this regime.

Before the British there was and still is Fijian society. As an American of African descent I found the interview quite interesting and informative since I knew little about Fiji other than it's location. I agree that Australia and NZ should tend to their own affairs and let the people of Fiji determine their own destiny. Frank Bainimarama seems to really care about his country and it's future from this interview. Thanks for posting.

Don't know who the reporter is but I lost respect for him in his opening line when he mispronounced the PM's name so badly. If you're going to produce a 20-minute documentary, at least make the effort how to pronounce the man's name properly. Varoke!

I agree with Commodore Bainimarama's goal. He is a good man. He is absolutely correct that the racial divisions are damaging Fiji. There is no doubt there. But these methods are too heavy handed. It is possible to create civil rights laws that ensure minority rights. That being said, it takes a time and careful efforts to change people's hearts. That cannot be done by force. I hope that racial harmony comes to Fiji. May God bless Fiji.

I thought Frank B handled the interview well. His methods may be detestable but it is hard to disagree with his central thesis that racial politics has not worked in Fiji and radical political change is needed. Fiji does not need more politicians who play the race card. It does not need more coups. What Fiji desperately needs is jobs, an investment friendly environment, social stability, sound infrastructure, and non-corrupt government. Can you deliver that in 5 years, Mr Bainimarama?

bainimarama became interim prime-minister after the 2000 coup. if he was really took control of fiji in 2006 for his own personal gain, why didn't he just do it in 2000?
